"Black Hood belonged to Straid of Olaphis.
Straid was invited to the old kingdom of Olaphis for his wisdom, but its depth was such that people soon feared him, and in the end Straid was led into a dreadful trap.
Straid spent several lifetimes as stone. During this hiatus, kingdoms rose and fell, until the land called Drangleic came to be."
Location
- Obtained from Straid of Olaphis by trading him 4 boss souls and speaking to him.
- Sold by Merchant Hag Melentia in Majula if you killed Straid. Progress through story.
Notes
- Part of the Black Set.
- Upgraded with Twinkling Titanite.
- Improves casting speed, gives +2 Intelligence and +2 Faith.
- 16 Intelligence required.
- Oddly, this set was designed for Dual Swordsman class in Dark Souls 2 beta, it is now a sorcerer's equipment.

DEFINITELY worth killing him if you’re a Sorcerer. This hood and CBT ring helped me maraud every boss after I accidentally killed Straid after Ruin Sentinels
It is weird, I've got 14 INT and it says "unable to use this item effectively with present attributes"... yet putting it on gives me 16 INT and all the bonuses...
Without cast speed improving gear I have a cast speed of 134
With the Black Hood that goes up to 148 (a measly 14 extra)
With the Clear Bluestone Ring +1 instead, it goes from 134 up to 206!
With the Clear Bluestone Ring +1 and the Black Hood it goes up to 229
By itself the Hood hardly seems worth it just for cast speed, combined with the ring it is a little bit better, but I would rather wear a decent helm, the cast speed increase from the Black Hood is basically rubbish.
