Black Knight Greatsword is a Greatsword and one of the available Weapons in Dark Souls 2Black Knight Greatsword in Dark Souls 2 is a formidable weapon associated with knights who served a lord of light in an ancient era. It can be buffed with spells after Patch 1.03 and has a unique one-handed moveset similar to the Claymore, while its two-handed moveset resembles the Thorned Greatsword's two-handed light attack.

Greatsword wielded by knights who served a lord of light in a long-forgotten age.

Even after their flesh was charred by flame, they remained as strong as ever, and stood watch, challenging visitors to their land.

How to get Black Knight Greatsword

Black Knight Greatsword Hints and Tips

  • Despite the clear reference to the Black Knight sword of the first Dark Souls, this weapon bears little resemblance to that weapon.
  • When you reach the ledge at the end of Belfry Sol where you can drop back down to the Belfry Sol bonfire there is a hidden wall to the right. There are 2 chests in the room. The sword is in the left chest.
  • As of Patch 1.03 this weapon can be buffed with spells.
  • One handed moveset is similiar to Claymore, While two handed moveset is same as Thorned Greatsword's two handed light attack, swinging speed is varied by light or strong attack.
  • Cannot use resins to buff weapon, however it is buffable with magic.
  • Considering the length and damage of this greatsword it's a viable option for STR/DEX fire caster builds, however it uses a sizable chunk of stamina for strong attacks. It can also knock down enemies with lunge attacks.
  • Two-handing this weapon alters your stance, allowing the wielder to leverage the weight of their body while striking; however, this greatly reduces the range of this weapon, which may cause inexperienced users to miss swings they expect to hit and leave themselves open to retaliation.
  • At Fire +5 with 40 STR/DEX, and 30 INT/FTH the Black Knight Greatsword does 268 + 81 Physical and 115 + 93 Fire Damage (AR 557).
  • The stats requirements in Scholar of the First Sin are different; you need 28 STR, 20 DEX, 8 INT (12 INT pre-SOTFS) and 12 FTH.
  • Used by Syan Soldiers wielding swords.

I like to imagine that the lore explanation for this sword being nothing like the original Black Knight Sword from Dark Souls 1 is because the Black Knights serving under Lord Gwyn are most likely only really known as legends to the people of Drangleic

and this sword is just some specially crafted sword smithed by some Blacksmith
its design based on what they thought the legendary Black Knight's weapons would've been like since all they really knew of them was that they were mighty knights scorched by flame, hence why it also deals innate fire damage vastly unlike the real Black Knight Sword from the previous game, or at least that's my dumb take on it anyway.

Sure it's arguably not as op as the Ds1 Black Knight Sword is, but on the contrary to what some other people say here I think it's still a very good weapon if you plan on investing in Intelligence and Faith a decent amount as well as strength and/or dex, it's on the slower side when it comes to Greatswords and it has rather high stamina consumption, but it has excellent reach being one of the longest greatswords having range on par with some Ultra Greatswords while being significantly faster and less cumbersome to use and it does great damage as well for its weapon class and it has a pretty sweet moveset and sure it doesn't look the same as the Black Knight Sword from the first game but it's still a very good looking sword imo
Don't knock this one till you try it I say if you're a Greatsword enjoyer and you don't mind putting some points into Int and Fth

I think this is good for what it is, its just different than the sword with the same name in ds1 or ds3 is i think the reason for the dislike comments, if you want something like the ds1/3 version try looking at ultra greatswords

          • Anonymous

it weighs too much and costs too much stamina per swing. The dps is trash for how much stamina you have to use.

            • Anonymous

Why tf do would someone need both int and faith to use this? It doesn't even have the the power stab that sends weak hollows flying

                Black Knight Greatsword is:
                an Ultra Greatsword in DS1
                a Greatsword in DS2
                an Ultra Greatsword in DS3

DS2 protagonist has the most strength confirmed

I’ve played thru this masterpiece of a game like 30 times and this is one of my top 5 favorite weapons. Feels great to use and has respectable damage and stagger.

                    • Anonymous

Best weapon for a strength pyro hybrid, 50 str 20 dex base int 36 fth for sacred oath and gmb, 43 attunement plus hexer hood for 3 forbidden sun casts, penal handcuffs for extra damage, flame weapon buff for extra fire but uninfused for that sweet physical damage.... add alone armor pieces for fashion souls and a throne watcher shield or llewelyn shield for a nice shield with all around defenses, third dragon ring, cloranthy ring +2, rob+2 and old leo for the brutal r2 pokes, forbidden sun has its own casting time so no clear blue stone ring required, old leo can be swapped but not cloranthy the weapon consumes a lot of stamina.

Hello :) What's the best infusion i should choose with 30/30 int/faith and 30/20 str/dext for this weapon ? I play only pve

                        • Anonymous

Got one from Shaded Woods, imbued it with lightning. It's okay, particularly for a STR/FTH build, but being a GS the moveset is rather slow and the elemental damage becomes split (which I prefer since I have very little INT and makes it more of an all rounder) which, even with a B on both fire and lightning turns out to be pretty underwhelming. Still, both movesets are incredibly varied and practical so if you don't mind the slow attack speeds it's a good GP weapon for sure.

I love this thing. I love the moveset. it has very good damage. and for some reason it looks like it has more range then most Greatswords, or is that just me.

Best greatsword ever and it has an awesome attack range for finishing off multiple foes at once like a total Badass. Highly Recommended for Greatsword players :)
