In the heyday of his land, the Old Iron King fancied entertaining dubious and eccentric guests from faraway lands. Most of them were charlatans, but amongst the riff-raff were true masters of authentic and refined arts.

Hints and Tips:

  • Upgraded with regular Titanite to +10.
  • Moveset is identical to Iaito from Dark Souls, which the strong attack is quickdraw slash.
  • You can speed up the strong attack quickdraw by wielding it with both hand, roll, light attack and then strong attack. (2H -> Roll -> 2HR1 -> 2HR2)
  • And therefore, you can go for this combo: Roll -> 2HR1 -> 2HR2 -> 2HR2 (slash, quickdraw with delay canceled, thrust)
  • When upgraded to +10, this weapon has an attack rating of 190 + (1 * [ATK: Dex]).
  • At 50 Dex and when upgraded to +10, this weapon has an attack rating of 345(190+155).
  • At 40 Dex and when upgraded to +10, this weapon has an attack rating of 330(190+140).
  • It takes 32 dex for the Blacksteel Katana to start outscaling the Uchigatana. (Uchigatana +10 has an attack rating of 220 + (0.1453 * [ATK: Str]) + (0.5877 * [ATK: Dex]).)
  • Dual Wielding the Blacksteel Katana (one in each hand), and having both upgraded to +10 is, besides the Curved Dragon Greatsword and the Black Knight Halberd, the strongest weapon to use for a DEX build in terms of damage.
  • Blacksteel Katana keeps S DEX scaling with most infusions; however this is only visual; the actual scaling is closer to B (~50% of S scaling).
  • At +10 Magic with 40 Dexterity, and Intelligence this weapon has an Attack Rating 363=(Physical 172+69)+(Magic 93+29).
  • When infused with Lightning at 40 Dexterity, and Faith this weapon has an Attack Rating 363=(Physical 172+69)+(Lightning 93+29).
  • When +5 Lightning @ 50 Dex 47 Faith the B Faith modifier is nearly half the damage of the berserker blade. Lightning Berserker 210, Lightning Blacksteel 124. However, if you are going pure Dex/Str build Blacksteel will hit harder.
  • You may also infuse it with Dark if your Intelligence and Faith are both 50 above, it's be slightly better than only scaling with Int or Faith.
  • You can buy equipment that increases item discovery, as well as using Rusted Coins to help with farming. If you're having trouble, try equipping all items that boost discovery (ie. Jesters Hat or Prisoners Hood, Prisoners Tatters, Covetous Gold Serpent Ring, etc.).
  • Same durability as Uchigatana and Manslayer.

  • Historically, Iaido is the genre of quickdraw techniques in quick respond to sudden attacks, considered to be a major Japanese martial art for being a philosophical or spiritual aspects of practice.

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.
The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].
This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".

Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped.
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has.
