The Blue Sentinels are a PvP covenant in Dark Souls 2. The Blue Sentinels protect the weak, by wearing the Guardian's Seal ring that allows them to be summoned to members of the Way of the Blue when they are being invaded. Sentinels cannot attack or interact with regular Enemies in the host's world, as their objective is to defeat the invader and punish the guilty. Sentinels get a red eye indicator that floats above their head upon being summoned and proceeds to guide them to the invader no matter where they might be. Upon defeating the host's invader the Sentinel will receive 1 Token of Fidelity. Sentinels don't have to wear the ring to invade guilty worlds or to start a duel match. You must be human to protect Way of the Blue members.

Covenant Leader: Blue Sentinel Targray
Where to Join: Cathedral of Blue, after defeating Old Dragonslayer

How to Join Blue Sentinels

Talk to Blue Sentinel Targray after having obtained a Token of Fidelity either through helping another player defeat a boss as a white phantom or by finding the one on the corpse beneath the rope bridge in Huntsman's Copse

Blue Sentinels is the only covenant that can use Cracked Blue Eye Orbs, which allow them to invade the worlds of sinners and wretches. They have to be human to be able to use these orbs. A player becomes a sinner if they have gained 10 points of sin by killing other players online with invasions or by killing NPCs. They become a wretch after gaining 100 points of sin. When a Blue phantom defeats a sinner or a wretch, they will lose 1 point of sin. When using the Cracked Blue Eye Orb, Blue phantoms are unable to use healing items such as the Estus Flask, but they can heal themselves with Spells.

You can farm Cracked Blue Eye Orbs in many ways:

Dueling

Much like the Brotherhood of Blood, Blue Sentinels can also gain devotion by defeating other Sentinels in duels. To enter a duel, pray at one of the three statues by The Blue Cathedral bonfire. At least one Token of Fidelity (rather than a Token of Spite) is required. This will be consumed upon entering the duel. It will not be consumed if you leave the statue before finding a match or if your opponent disconnects before the duel begins. Each statue leads to a different arena:

  • Left: A labyrinthine arena with 2 levels. Each side has a ramp to reach the upper level, and the lower level can be jumped down to.
  • Center: A cross-shaped bridge over a bottomless pit. Careless duelists often fall to their deaths in this arena.
  • Right: A wide-open arena with stairs to a lower level. Relatively few obstacles or hiding places.

If a match is not found in the chosen arena, you will be matched with a duelist in another arena.
Just as in the Brotherhood, most offensive items can be used in the arena, but most healing items cannot. You still can heal by casting healing miracles such as Great Heal or the healing pyromancy Warmth, or by certain equipment like the Ring of Restoration, Loyce Shield, Crown of the Ivory King, and upon each successful hit of the Butcher's Knife.

Rank

To obtain ranks in this covenant, you need a certain amount of victories. In this case, a victory means either:

You won't ever lose these victory points or ranks.

Rank Requirement Reward
0 Initial Guardian's Seal
1 50 victories Spirit Tree Shield, aesthetic blue aura as a Blue phantom
2 150 victories Wrath of the Gods, aesthetic neon blue glow as a Blue phantom
3 500 victories Bountiful Sunlight, Targray's Set

Covenant Items

  • Guardian's Seal: Has to be worn (while human) to be able to get summoned to Way of the Blue members who are being invaded.
  • Token of Fidelity: Required and consumed when dueling with a fellow covenant member. Can also be used as an item to restore some HP. Obtained by defeating invaders or bosses in co-op.

Notes, Hints, and Tips

  • Talking to Blue Sentinel Targray after reaching rank 3 will cause him to give you his armor set.
  • Even if you are a Blue Sentinel you still can be invaded by an Arbiter Spirit (Blue Phantom).
  • As your rank increases the blue aura that surrounds you when you invade will grow at rank 1 and 2.
  • You can be summoned to defend a Way of the Blue member while your white summon sign is down.
  • You can also be summoned if you're wearing the ring while resting at a bonfire, so it's a smart move to unequip this ring before going AFK.
  • A way to gain souls via this covenant is either protecting a host or killing Phantoms when invading.
  • A way to get summoned more frequently with the Guardian's Seal is by removing the ring and putting it back on with about one to five minute intervals.
  • When invading the world of a sinner, it's possible to arrive in a different area than the one where you used your Cracked Blue Eye Orb.
  • While invading in Heide's Tower of Flame, it is common for there to be Cracked Blue Eye Orbs dropped from mobs, thus nullifying the cost to invade.

      50 wins? Okay sure
      150 wins for WotG? Bruh…
500 wins for a lame set and mid miracle???!!

What was Yui Tanimura smoking, no one has that little of a life.

If you ever see someone use WotG in PvP post pictures or it didn’t happen.

Honestly I think the way DS2 handled covenants is one of, if not the worst way to design covenant rewards, in order to get 50, let alone 150 you’d have to get a friend to actively duel you, which makes a out of game environment almost necessary when the game dies down, the developers were borderline trying to actively kill players interest in covenants through making unrealistic requirements and unfulfilling rewards the usual, in fact the only good covenant is the sun bro covenant, and that was probably brought in to try and nostalgia bait the DS1 community into thinking the covenants are good, when in reality the only good covenant in DS2 is a covenant from the game that it was supposed to play, and look better than! Which makes me wonder why the h**l did the developers make the game look so bad!? They’ve had 4 years of technological improvements since 2011’s OG dark souls and somehow the game looks worse! Idc if the game had bad development there is no good reason for the game to look as bad as it does.

got to rank 2 just to immediately bounce and head back home to the sunbros, good times. don't worry either sinners, i'll remember all of you and your mediocre ass connections (also you too GK0522 how do you lose a 3v1 in 2024 LMAO)

Nowadays, it is infinitely easier to farm Tokens of Fidelity and attempt the duels instead of expecting to get summoned as a blue or invade a sinner even once in a lifetime.

Does the blue Aura persist when you are summoned as a white phantom via Soapstone? If so this would feel like really cool bragging rights!

500 victories? Well, good thing theres a savefile on nexusmods for all spells achievements. Good luck to everyone actually going for 500 victories. Especially in 2022

                • I am going for plat in this game, 500 victories are insane. If it was 100, that would bring more temps to PVP, like in DS3. I spent extra 1-2 months just playing PVP on DS3 occasionally just because of the plat.

Dark souls 2 is very anti pvp game unless you play it non-stop. Limited orbs, limited humanities, average people rarely invade for you to seek them. The way i see it pvp only kinda present very long in game. Arenas worthless unltil high SL. Tnx they fixed it in ds3 so its active on any SL. Basically what i want to say that low/mid level invasions are inactive unless you invade as red yourself.

Everyone planning to join the Blue Sentinels in 2022 (and beyond) should install the mod Blue Acolyte. It's a mod that is helping to make the pvp in DS2 SOTFS more active than it already is. It makes it so that both Red and Blue Cracked Eye Orbs are INFINITE. So that means just one of those orbs now functions as a full eye orb (like from Dark Souls 1 and Dark Souls 3). It's perfectly safe to use online. I've used it for a few weeks now and have not been softbanned. Oroboro even used it on stream a few times last month when he did some Dark Souls 2 pvp (they got uploaded to his youtube channel as videos too).

I’ve been invaded 6 times throughout my current NG+ and not once, despite being human and having the Way of Blue covenant & ring equipped, has ANY blue sentinel come to my aid. ._.

500 victories in a relatively unpopular game for items you can get in a few hours if you speed through the ng+ cycles for achievements. Thanks fromsoft

I was in an arena match in which a guy just kept spawning Lingering Flames (or whatever the Pyromancy with the "landmine" effect is called) and running from me. After some time, maybe five minutes, "DEFEAT" appeared on screen and I just flat out lost. Is there something to that...? I had more health than he did by the end of it, so I have NO idea how I lost. Anyone?

For those who ask. U still CAN get the platinum trophy..
Chancellor Wellageron sell this miracles in Drangleic Castle on NG++.

BEWARE! Ppl summoning for "help" are actually in teams with invadors for easy ranks. Idk if I just had a streak of assholes but tis covenant might be entirely dead.

This may have been great before but at this point, where the fan base for this particular title is gone. Getting 150 victories seems really hard has I need to fight with my cracked blue eyes to invade, EVERYTIME, so 500 seems way out of reach.

If you are summoned as a blue phantom and die, does the death count towards getting the no deaths ring obtained after the game.

This method works with any material you want if it drops from a mob. If you run out of orbs and no onr summons you, fear not. As joining the champions covenant wont remove you progress in the blue sentinels, and allows you to farm the old knights for orbs indefinitely. As an added bonus the ultra great sword knights can drop awestones to rank up the chanpion covenant. Learn what mob drops what and join the champion covenant to farm them indefinitely. Note: i would recommend killing them outside the covenant before joining as it makes the enemy stronger, and once you leave the covenant they enter their previous state of respawns. Meaning if they dont respawn before you entered the covenant, they wont respawn when you leave the covenant

Just wanted to mention here that there is a method of boosting your rank in this covenant. Whether it's known or not I've never found it despite many attempts. But using the delicate string and agape ring you can repeatedly invade a friend to gain quick kills in fairly rapid succession to rank up much faster. I'll have a video up later today to demonstrate this method. I wanted to mention it here because I highly respect this site and have gained 80% of my knowledge of this game from it

Where is it best to use blue-eye orbs, do I need a token to rejoin covenant, and do I need a token for every spar?

This is really cool. I'm surprised and glad that there are so many people still playing the game. I still can hardly ever find people to help me early game except in the forest.

One time I was invading in the tower of flame and I ended up appearing in the gutter are they connected somehow?

                                                • Anonymous

Whenever I use an orb, it automatically tells me it couldn't find a world. My game was in online mode, and I never seemed to have this trouble with the Rat Bros. I'm Level 127 if it helps.

I found out that the ring of the gods is how siners block out us invading them because we have to be under the God to even see them so just do one with out the ring and then jump to all of them

                                                    • Anonymous

I just need to get my frustration out, I hate Cracked Blue Eye Orbs, they are 98% useless, astonishingly so. Needing to press the buttons like a 1000 times just to get 1 single invasion.................SUCKS THE BIG ONE! It really sucks that their red counterparts get invasions pretty much instantly, making it unfair in regards of the amount of invasion oriented PVP one can have. Even though blue invasions suck, the blue arena is pretty much the best one, due to its more fair matchmaking. And it has a lower population of Havel-Butt faces, so its better!
