Darksign is a special tool item in Dark Souls 2 (DKS2). Darksign, a cursed mark. The Darksign brings about death, sending the player back to the last rested bonfire, but at the expense of all held souls. Gather the fragments and piece them together before the will to do so wanes. Tools are unique, reusable items which assist the player during various facets of gameplay ranging from basic communication to assisting in boss encounters.

Do what you must to gather the pieces, scraping them into some semblance of a whole, before the will to do so fades.
Darksign Usage in DKS2
- Kills you, sending you back to the last bonfire used and deleting all souls. This does not drop a bloodstain, and does not hollow you.
- Has unlimited uses.

If anyone is checking this because they wanna use it in their no death run. No, the dark sign does not kill you (at least on scholar, im not sure about vanilla), you can use the dark sign offline, check the majula monument and it will say 0 deaths, I just tested this because I myself was curious so if this is what you came to this page for, here's your answer, hope it helps.
