The Elana, Squalid Queen is a Boss in Dark Souls 2 (DKS2)Elana, a menacing figure wielding a halberd, relies heavily on Dark Magic and Dark Pyromancy to obliterate her adversaries. Adding to the challenge, she possesses the power to summon minions to the battlefield, intensifying the chaos of the encounter. Notably resistant to Lightning, she proves more vulnerable to the onslaught of Fire and Magic attacks. Bosses are unique and challenging Enemies that drop Boss Souls capable of being transformed into powerful WeaponsSpells, and Items for the player.

Elana, Squalid Queen Information in Dark Souls 2

Elana, The Squalid Queen is a boss in Dark Souls 2. Elana is quite mysterious as she is very similar to another boss in Dark Souls II. She seems to be almost identical to Nashandra in terms of appearance and description, and like Nashandra she uses a long reach weapon (though not nearly as powerful) and a wide variety of hexes. She differs in that she can summon several skeletons or even an enemy wearing the same armor as the former boss of the Undead Crypt, Velstadt to assist her in attacks, as well as the small piglets seen in Majula.

From what we can see in her soul description she is almost certainly a fragment of Manus and seems to have played a role in the rise and fall of her kingdom, just like Nashandra of Drangleic. She sings in the Dragon Sanctum until you encounter her, then she will tell you to rot (this can vary from encounter) and will begin fighting you. She must be killed in order to fight Sinh, the Slumbering Dragon and get to the final bonfire in the DLC.

Elana, Squalid Queen Drops in DKS2

DKS2 Elana, Squalid Queen Attacks

Attack Name Attack Description
Staff Strike Swings her staff in melee range, easily dodged and high damage.
Vertical Strike Swings her staff vertically to hit the ground in front of her. The range of this attack is deceptive, as she will often move a bit forward while doing it, closing the gap between you.
Flame Swathe Fires 1 or 2 Flame Swathes near the player, high damage if caught in the blast. Deals dark damage. Be careful should she casts 2, they will move a bit in your direction from two sides before exploding. This can be very dangerous if she already summoned Velstadt, for you do not have much space to roll and dodge into (the chance that you get caught in a blast or one of Velstadt's attacks is high).
Dark Blast Blasts an area of dark energy when in melee range, high damage and moderate knockback.
Dark Shot Fires 3-5 dark orbs at the player in a straight line, high damage each one that lands. Has weak tracking.
Affinity Casts 3 orbs of homing dark orbs above her that fire off after a few seconds.
Summon Skeletons Summons a group of skeleton warriors that can cause poison and bleed buildup.

Velstadt

Summons Velstadt, The Royal Aegis (or an enemy who has the same armor and weapon). Velstadt can also cause poison buildup, should his attacks connect, although he cannot use Dark Burst.
Summon Pigs Summons a group of harmless pigs identical to those found in Majula.
Teleport While this isn't necessarily an "attack", the mere execution of this move can be fatal to you. This move has little to no fore-tell, besides the animation itself, where she dissipates in a sandy smoke cloud (similar to the animation her summons and weapon have when they appear). Once her move is executed, she can directly appear anywhere in the map, and she will often directly follow with an attack. This is why it is an absolute priority to locate her as soon as she re-appears.
- If she re-appears far away from you, she will most likely directly cast Dark Shot or her Flame Swathe variant.
- If she re-appears at close range, she will most likely appear behind you and hit you in the back. As her melee attacks are easy to dodge, but deal high damage, this can be fatal to you if you don't see it coming. She can however also spawn right in front of you, where a melee attack is easier to dodge.

Dark Souls 2 Elana, Squalid Queen Strategy

Melee Strategy

As you enter the fog wall, you will see Elana standing at the opposite edge of the arena. It takes a while for the actual boss fight to start, however, as she will only start the fight once she has noticed you and has summoned her halberdesque weapon from the ground. Run straight towards her once you've entered the arena, and get as much damage as you can on her, before the actual fight starts. After that, she is relatively easy to fight 1 on 1, with the exception of the hexes she occasionally casts. The real problem when fighting her is the fact that once she summons the battle can get a bit hectic. I almost always she will start zipping around rapidly once her summons are fighting. It is best to target the minions first, just make sure she doesn't jump behind you for a surprise attack or hex strike. After the minions are gone she will stand still and be easier to hit with melee attacks. Don't bother with elemental weapons or miracles, she seems nearly immune to it (I only tested with lightning, any have any problem with pyro?). Other than when she summons Velstadt the fight isn't all that hard, it just takes patience. All her attacks are well choreographed and most can be blocked or dodged with ease. Just make sure she or her minions corner you or surround you and you can solo or group kill her with time.

Faith Strategy

This boss has a lot of HP. I highly recommend that you summon the two nearby NPC's for this fight if you plan on mainly using spells, so that they can tank while you cast from a distance. It is also highly recommended that you bring plenty of items that give you additional spell casts. Once you enter the arena, you will approach the boss and let one of the NPC summons tank her. Spam her with any spells you have: Lightning spears, force, etc. She does not take much damage from lightning so it is a lengthy process. When she summons an enemy to aid her occasionally, you'll want to focus your attention on it to eliminate it from the equation as quickly as possible, but try to save your spells and fight it using melee since they are easy to dodge. Continue this process until the boss is dead!

Melee/Sorcery Strategy

This boss is extremely difficult for pure sorcerers owing to her huge amount of hit points, her magic resistance, and her recurrent summons. The best strategy, though still difficult, is to pre-cast crystal magic weapon before the fog gate and immediately hit Elana as many times as you can before she starts to turn. Try to keep behind her whenever possible and roll under her spear. Be aware that sometimes she swings it more than once or may teleport. If she teleports, immediately roll away to avoid her sudden attack. A good tactic for this fight is to never take your eyes off Elana as her attacks are relentless. If you see multiple "smoke" appear, she is summoning her skeletal assistants so use this time to hit her and then create distance or recast crystal magic weapon. Try to move from side to side avoiding the skeletons so that you can see Elana and wait for her to use her flame swathe variant or a similar spell to time when you attack the skeletons. Attack them after she casts her spell but you know you are safe and if possible when they attempt to attack you. If she summons Velstadt then prepare for a much more difficult fight. Create more distance and roll towards Velstadt when he attacks and then continue backward and time your attacks with spells when you have avoided one of Elana's attacks. Take your time and make sure Velstadt is dead before continuing as normal, a few crystal soul spears and soul spears should take him down. It is recommended to attack two-handed when you hit Elana as blocking is fairly useless but if she precasts her Affinity, create distance and prepare to use your shield. The key to this fight is to take your time and never take your eyes off Elana. If done correctly then you should be able to take her down after her third or fourth summon. Also be aware that when she does her close quarter dark blast, if you avoid it, you can get close enough to land a few good shots.

Pure Sorcery Strategy (No melee)

She is fairly resistant to magic damage so it will take a lot of your powerful spells to take her down. Make sure to carry herbs and be ready to munch them down. As soon as you are in range upon entering the fight fire off as many Crystal Soul Spears as you have equipped. Continue to stay at the edge of the lock-on range and fire away. She will mostly throw her flame swathe and trailing dark orbs attacks at you from this distance. If she summons skeletons, you will want to have a lower level sorcery available (like Great Heavy Soul Arrow) to take out the skeletons. You should be able to one-shot them if they aren't blocking. If she summons Velstadt, you can leave him alone and just focus on Elana. If he becomes a problem you will have to use some big spells on him as he has around 2000 hp. One problem you will have once she starts teleporting around will be the loss of lock when she moves. This will cause your spells to miss. Even with a couple of misses, you can take her down to about 300 hp with 3 Crystal Soul Spears and 15 Soul Spears. When she is summoning or during a darkstorm attack, you will have enough time to cast some of the longer spells like Soul Vortex.

Pure Caster High level (NG+) Strategy:

Take Dark Orb(1 or 2) for the lesser summons and to do damage fast to Velstadt. Take Crystal Soul Spear or 2, Yearn and fill the rest of the slots with Soul Spears. I recommend the 3rd Dragon ring, Clear Bluestone ring +2 and Southern Ritual Band +2. Black hood if you want (didn't check if it is worth it but the headpiece will give you little gain no matter what you use). You will need an item to recover spell uses so don't forget to bring it. Summon ONE, and ONLY ONE, NPC if you can't get people to help - this is because the more summons you have the less damage you deal and you only need 1 tank. As soon as you enter and lock spam soul spears, not crystal, and try to keep her attention on you since if she is attacking you, your tank is not taking damage and her moves are easy to dodge if she is alone. She will then summon something. for me it was skeletons ->velstadt -> skeletons, kill the first wave of skeletons fast so you can focus on doing damage uninterrupted while you have the tank to keep you comfortable. when she summons velstadt, try to line yourself with both him and Elana so your spears damage both - THIS IS KEY. the whole point is to try to exploit the time you have while the NPC tanks their attacks to dish as much damage as possible to both. when the NPC dies, kill velstadt immediately with normal soul spears or dark orb depending on the situation, but the faster you can do it the better since the fight is only hard when both velstadt and Elana are alive and not just Elana and some minions. use yearn to keep skeletons at bay while you continue your offense on her, always dodge her moves as a priority, don't be greedy or impatient as you can learn pretty easily how many spells you can hit her within between attacks and stick to that number for each attack. one important detail is to take the opportunity of not being able to cast spells when you run out of stamina to use your item to recuperate spell uses as it kills 2 birds with one stone (or heal mind you). I pulled this off without much trouble on NG+++ but my stats are ridiculously high, otherwise, it would be a little harder. but as long as your main stats are covered it will be the same which is Int, Endurance, Attunement and if possible as much Vitality and Vigor as you can, all in this order. Also important, her spells can be dodged without rolling by moving normally, saving you precious stamina and time you can use to do damage to her. remember, this tactic will work based on dealing as much damage per second as possible and if she summons too many waves you will be locked out of resources, be it stamina or spells, as the chances for attack alone while not dying are few and far between leaving your mistakes to pile up fast.

Elana, Squalid Queen Hints in Dark Souls 2

  • She is weak to magic based attacks particularly, then fire, then lightning and lastly dark as the least damaging. (tested with Longswords with exact AR in physical and element damage)
  • A magic ice rapier buffed with CMW with ring of blades and Leo ring will do high damage to her and Velstadt, but is not effective against the skeletons
  • She is immune to poison (Poison Mist does not affect her) and resistant to fire.
  • When you see her summoning the Skeletons, unlock and cast Yearn at the Wall where she was standing in the beginning. All Skeletons will run there and stand at one point, making them an easy target for a slash attack.
  • When you are fighting her solo she will nearly always summon Velstadt (at least on ps3). With one summon she alternates between Skeletons and Velstadt and with two summons she will almost always summon Velstadt. The more summons you have the less damage you will do, making the fight actually harder because they die mostly during the fight, leaving you to fight her alone while doing less damage and constantly having to deal with Velstadt.
  • While she is summoning she is vulnerable for several seconds, take the chance and hit her as many times as you can.
  • If you're taking Elana on, on your own; you will have to be extra cautious when she summons Velstadt. If you are running a rather fast build, applying a "Hit and Run" strategy on Elana, while completely evading Velstadt's attacks, might be more beneficial. Instead of focusing on Velstadt, lure him away from Elana, and then immediately rush towards her to get a few safe hits in. Rinse and repeat and the fight should stay rather easy. If you're running a slower character, however, this tactic isn't recommended, as you have to be able to outrun Velstadt to get a few safe hits on Elana.
  • If one Skeleton lives she won't summon more Skeletons, but will be able to summon Velstadt)
  • Using Dark Quartz Ring+3  and Dispelling Ring  can help reduce most damage for melee characters.
  • Elana can rarely summon other enemies, besides skeletons and "Velstadt". There exists the rare chance that she summons little Undead Devourer (like the ones in Majula) instead of the skeletons. They deal less damage but can be, depending on the weapon used, difficult to hit.
  • There is two NPC summons outside the area; Benhart of Jugo, and Steelheart Ellie. This fight counts toward Benhart's quest. Benhart's summon sign is located further back in the room you find the fog gate.
  • Dark Transgressor's Leather Shield completely NEGATES her Hexes.
  • For handling Velstadt with 1 or 2 phantoms (Player or NPC) see if you can get one of them to focus Velsdalt while he is focused on them while you and the other phantom are focusing on Elana. (make sure you get a good amount of distance between them)
  • Although her skeletons die as soon as you defeat Elana, Velstadt is still capable of attacking the player as she dies. If the player dies from Velstadt immediately after defeating Elana, the game will not register it as defeating her.

Doing my first SL1 run, she was my first DLC boss and harder than any main one (including Darklurker), harder than even Sinh. That RNG is absolute cancer.

However, I think what she summons first depends on her health. I noticed she always summons skeletons if I wail on her using Red Tear Ring in the beginning so she ends in the 60-70% range. Any less and she summons Velstadt guaranteed. Not like skellies are ideal anyway, with how little HP I had.

      • Anonymous

Velstadt is definetly more threatening then the skeletons so I suggest that you spare one skeleton and focus on Elana herself, so she can't summon Velstadt

          Black Scorpion Stinger+5
          Flynn's Ring
          Chloranthy Ring
          Ring of Blades+1
          Royal Soldier's Ring

Go solo, relentlessly poke with Black Scorpion's Stinger. I had 29 Endurance, 20 Dex. You can actually melt her pretty fast if you just go in solo with this strategy. Take advantage of the long summon time.

I named a character in Elden Ring after her as a tribute. I think the summoning magic that you have in that game is based on this character.

              - flame swathe
              - looks like a flame
              - sounds like a flame
              - has all the effects of a flame
              - deals dark damage

              thank you dark souls

I beat her on my first attempt with Benhart and Ellie but both of her summons were Velstadt, the first time I beat him I thought I'd get souls but once I didn't I realized that I should just attack her instead. Then she summoned Velstadt AGIAN. Now I'm here realizing that she could had just summoned skeletons and pigs. Is there a reason why she summons certain enemies or is it just pure RNG?

                • Anonymous

She takes a lot more damage from ranged attacks than other DLC enemies let alone bosses. CSS does almost 900 damage to her @99 INT.

Pro tip: you are better off keeping the skeletons around if you’re already past half health, this way she can’t summon velstadt and make your life harder.

                    • Anonymous

I got incredibly lucky. While I summoned Benhart of Jugo, she summoned pigs as one of the first things she did. Only had to focus on the boss

                      • Anonymous

Three attempts, four summons, all Velstadt. Beat her once I realized Velstadt wasn't as tanky as I was afraid of and killed him, even though she summoned him again thirty seconds later.
If you are having trouble juggling summons consider just removing your armor, imo the extra roll distance/stamina recovery helps more than the damage you block.

                        • Anonymous

Mf summoned velstadt when I ignore all the skeletons.

All it take was 9 Divine Charm, 6 Poison Resin, 1 Dark Resist Pills, 2 Rogue Waters, 7 Crimson Waters, 4 Strength Balms, numerous Lifegems and 5 tries to kill her.
My strategy was, got 2 or 3 free hits while she summon her weapons, dodge attacks until she tries to summon. While she summons the skeleton, hit her fast. Deal with the skellies first then back to her. When she tries to summon another, hit her some more.

If she summon velstadt, try to juke him near her. After you dodge velstadt, hit her. But do not be greedy. Easier said than done, but always dodge veldstadt near her so you can land some hit to her without being interrupted. After a while she will try to summon more, if you time it right, you could dodge veldstadt then kill her.

She's one of the hardest NG+7 bosses of all Souls games including Bloodborne and Sekiro (dunno about Elden Ring, never played it).

Killed her without knowing anything about her attacks. Thought that she is a pretty easy boss and a warm-up before Sinh. Now I discovered that she can randomly summon Velstadt.... LMAO, what?

                              • Anonymous

This fight is so rng-based, depending on whether rng decides to be nice to you this fight could either be not that bad or a complete nightmare because she could either A summon skeletons or pigs who really aren't a treat since they're easily killed and deal fairly low damage and you can shrug off their attacks easily provided you don't have less than 3 poise, ooooor she can summon Velstadt and immediately make the fight way more frustrating, I'd advise if she summons skeletons or pigs kill all of them except one so she doesn't summon more enemies to replace them or Velstadt, If you kill all of the skeletons or pigs except one this fight is significantly more manageable since Elana herself isn't that bad provided you be careful of her Hexes and Flame Swathe, buuuuuut if she summons Velstadt immediately it's a lot more rough.

I am having a horrible time with this boss in SOTFS. She is smoking me every time by summoning Velstadt back to back. As soon as I kill a Velstadt she summons another. She seems easy otherwise so I guess I keep rerolling this fight until I get better RNG?

This boss is extremely difficult for pure sorcerers owing to her huge amount of hit points, her magic resistance"

                                    so which is it?

Not hard, But I'm not a fan of the whole RNG "Either she summons a skeleton or tiny piglets that do miniscule damage and have barely any health, Or she summons goddamn Velstadt 3 times in a row and completely reams your ass" thing, Not much of a fan of this one, still leagues better than the stupid Gank Trio in the Cave of the Dead though.

This ***** has some kind of special i-frames that cancels stuff like ice rapier's strong attack; for some reason instead of connecting the icycle AND the thrust of the blade, only the thrust harms her, the rest of the damage is ignored, resulting in a pathetic 100 something hit

Proof? I stepped back and threw just the icycle, 300ish damage, while she is casting/attacking this i-frame disappears, causing a 400 damage hit, as it should. It's not a weird side of the hitbox either, plunged her in various sides (haha) and only did both the rapier and the icycle connect when she was doing something else than standing

Kinda screwed my SL1 experimental cheese, had to equip both STR and DEX rings with the hook in the other hand for the rest of the DEX, I farmed and infused three of them and everything - Don't make my mistake.

Was fighting her with summons because why not, and she and Velstadt honestly have very little hp. Used like 2 estus the whole fight, I think Velstadt died in like 8-12 hits, but I did use a fire weapon and he's covered in oil. +5 Black Knight Greatsword, 35 str, 25 dex. I think she's half as hard as the 3 gank squad boss, with that path leading up to it and all.

                                            • Anonymous

Took 3 days, well over 20 attempts and some level grinding but I finally beat her. I summoned ellie & Benhart, hit her immediately upon entering with all 4 of my soul spears, then closed in and did as much damage as I could with the Majestic Greatsword +5, she summoned skeletons but I stayed behind her and used the Majestic's left handed heavy spin attack to damaged her and nearly 1 shot any skeletons that came near me. Once the skeletons were dead I continued hitting her the spin attack then she summoned Valstadt, I move back and started using my great heavy soul arrow, while Elana & Vals managed to finish off ellie. Vals came after me and I kept dodging and kiting him around the room, shooting my soul arrows when possible. Finally she had less than 1/10th of her health remaining and vals went to attack Benhart who remarkably was still alive and kept attacking Elana. I then ran up and hit the heavy spinning attack one more time for the win. Me and Benhart both survived, but Ellie valiantly died in the line of service and her sacrifice was invaluable. TL;DR: If the NPCs stay targeted on Elana most of the time & survive long enough and also you get Lucky with what she summons, you can beat her. It will probably take several attempts before she doesn't summon Vals first but be persistent and don't give up. This boss is half skill, half luck of the draw.

I noticed some interesting things (NG+, no summons, attempted without any bonfires lit at all):

                                                - After a while, when you still deal with Velstadt, she'll join him in melee after a couple ranged attacks, and will do so for a decent amount of time. She tends to spawn close to him and hit you often right before Velstadt finishing an attack, leaving a generous window for a counterattack (pick Elana or Velstadt, your choice).

                                                - The most dangerous attack of hers is the pyromancy, since they're the most difficult attack to avoid. The combination of hers and Velstadt's melee, the hexes and pyromancy is the reason why you should use Havel's shield above others. It provides high stability and blocks most of the elemental damage without the need to switch between dedicated shields.

                                                - Wear lighter armor with overall decent resistances against both fire and dark (I used Agdayne's set). If you want additional elemental resistances, I would recommend to only wear one ring that reduces elemental damage (e.g. Dark Quartz Ring +3). The durability of your equipment will most likely not be an issue. Therefore apply rings for equipment load, stamina regen and/or increased damage output.

                                                - Pursuer's Greatsword +5 in one hand while blocking with Havel's Greatshield makes this fight much easier (even though some would consider using Havel's Greatshield cheating for how effective it is here). The vertical slash still deals over 400 damage against summoned Velstadt. It can be time-consuming, and it was a test of patience, since she summoned Velstadt twice in a row at the start of the boss fight.

                                                - If Velstadt attacks horizontally, it's better to play safe since it's likely that he will perform a two-hit combo (rarely a 3-hit), which can catch you off-guard. Vertical swings are safer to punish.

Just an awful ****ing boss. Tanky against everything, summons another whole as boss, spams magic, teleports. Everything that makes ds2 bad is in this boss fight. “Ah yess all of our terrible design choices in one boss fight perfect!”

Use alluring skull against the skeletons. Keep one alive and continue fighting Elana. You'll win for sure.

Had a difficult time in my 5 or so tries, then on the last one she summoned the skeletons thrice. Ill take it.

                                                      • Anonymous

Not killing the skeletons made the fight way easier to me. This way she wasn't summoning anyone else and the skeletons didn't put much of a treat.

If RNGesus is by your side, elana will summon piggies instead (will not summon anything else as long you don't kill the piggies), and you can hit, roll, and strafe the night away

                                                            • Anonymous

As a pure caster after doing this about 10 times, the easiest method was GSA&GHSA, Soul Spear for multiple enemies, Lightning Spear for Vel. Spamming less damaging attacks that usually didn't miss seemed to be way easier than high damage spells that would get interrupted or miss.

                                                              • i swear, hardest part of this fight isnt facing two bosses at once, its keeping Benhart alive! the number of failed runs because the bosses seemed to insist on ganging up on him lol. worst fight ever for trying to meet the requirements for his gear lol

                                                                • I got lucky on my first try. She summoned skeletons twice, then Velstadt the third time. I just ignored him and kept hitting her and she died. If not for her stupid summons, she'd be a joke. Her attacks and spells are all easily avoided.

                                                                  • Hi, I'm writing down the bosses that are really tough and I would like to know if this one counts? no invocations
(in the list are furnace demon, vendrick, ancient dragon despite being unfair, the other 2 from the water dlc and all from the fire dlc)

                                                                    • Anonymous

It took me about 30 attempts to beat this on NG8 lol (in comparison the two tigers boss (Ludd) and almost all other bosses took 1-2 tries). I used a hybrid build with fireballs and dual hammers for this boss.

                                                                      • Anonymous

Gotta love her barely visible aoe explosions that do 80% of your health... can barely see them through visual effects on a casting build.

                                                                        • Anonymous

This is the one boss that got me curious about their lore out of all DS2. Most of the others felt slapped together or lifted from DS1, but what sells Elana even more than her sisters is that opening line—"You are not worthy of the mire."

It makes me think that she, presiding over a kingdom subsumed by poison, mocks the gods for their dependency on light and perfection, whereas she endures in a rotten tomb far from the sun's reach. The gods are ironically fragile.

                                                                          • Anonymous

The difficulty will vary based on how op or not your build is. I beat her at I think SL99 with very modest dps and great magic weapon on a +10 dark longsword. I couldn't kill Velstadt at all, but I got lucky with three skeleton summons in a row before she summoned him. There's a way to finish her off with him there but you gotta get lucky with him arriving only at the end when her health is down, otherwise, it's a slog. Roll INTO him and he'll miss every time. Stay locked off once he arrives. Line them up so it's him then her. Bait his attack while dodging her attack, roll into him towards her, get a hit in, roll away and hope neither of them hit you back. Again, this is best at the very end when she's down to nearly no health. It's just luck getting skeletons a few times first or not. Note the skeletons don't all attack at once. I'd say kill the skeletons (don't save one) since you can get more damage in without them there AND when she summons them again, that's prime time for a lot of damage. This boss fight is one of the worst in the game due to the rng issue. I can't imagine anyone bonfire aceticing it to play it again. Sinh is literally a relaxing battle after this one (once you learn how to avoid all his moves).

                                                                            • Anonymous

So many people crying about basic mechanics. You don’t need to force yourself through Dark Souls if you are bad. Just get carried by your summons and Greatshield/Hexes so you can say you beat it.

                                                                              • Anonymous

Worst boss in the game. Absurd damage, summons ****ing VELSTADT, it's almost a copy of Nashandra in terms of design, and the npc phantom you can summon is basically useless. -1 / 10

                                                                                • Anonymous

tried solo and with 1-2 npcs, literally every time she summoned it was velstadt , sometimes rngg just hates me

                                                                                  • Anonymous

If you got her to spawn skeleboys, rejoice. Kill all but one and stick to her like pine resin so she is more occupied with hitting you with her scythe than spawning Verstadt. Also stripping down to my skin suit to maximise rolling helps somewhat.

                                                                                    • Anonymous

They could've limited her to one Velstadt summon, but he's guaranteed to show up at half health or something, but noooo, gotta find extra ways to screw the player over with RNG

                                                                                      • Anonymous

They could have at least made her AoE attacks damage her own summons. DS2 already has enough gank bs inflating the difficulty.

                                                                                        • Anonymous

I must be lucky because Velstadt never showed. Only summoned Benhart myself, and she summoned skeletons twice in a row. She was already going down before I had to kill the second skelly pack.

                                                                                          • Possibly my favourite boss fight, I often leave my sign down here or at the Fume Knight and usually get a decent amount of summons.

I'm not sure why so many people rage about her. I can consistently beat her without taking any damage, even letting her summon Velstadt multiple times, so it's not just a random or unfair fight. If she summons something try to move away from her and deal with it, but never lock on as you will need to keep moving the camera. Otherwise summon somebody in, but you will both need to deal with whatever she summons since the aggro can switch at any moment.

It's interesting that if somebody finds a boss easy, others need to "git gud", but if they struggle with it the boss is "unfair" and has "artificial difficulty".
