Hammers in Dark Souls II are a type of Weapon that mostly deal Strike damage, they also share similar attack animations to Axes and Great Axes. Hammers tend to deal high damage to armored opponents, they are designed to be used for a single hit damage rather than in quick succession of attacks, since each swing of this weapon type is slow, but once the opponent is hit, they will most likely stagger. Hammers are very effective against turtling or defensive opponents. By landing a hit with a Hammer, the following attacks will become relatively faster, but when whiffed, it can be dangerous, leaving the player wide open for a punish. When using Hammers, the first strike is the most important hit, if it connects, it is almost always possible to follow up with another strike and potentially stagger the opponent. This page covers a list of all Hammers in Dark Souls 2.

Don’t listen to what they tell you, Handmaiden’s Ladle with raw infusion is *the* best weapon in the game. Turns everything into pure soup!

At 50 str and dex, the barbed club will do the most damage while also having bleed. Techincally the reinforced club does more damage but it has shite durability, so the barbed club is more worthwhile

I wish you could get the hammer that the green guys in Harvest Valley wield

Of all the weapons and combinations I tried in this game, hammer powerstanse is probably the best one (PvE, not PvP ofc).
Craftsman's hammer + regular mace are the best hammers overall, in my opinion. They also use different upgrade materials, and both scale just off strength.
My boys not only do excellent job at applying blunt force trauma, but also excell in poisebreaking. Probably the most poisebreaking combo in game. But if you feel you need even more, Stone ring will upgrade poisebreaking potential from excellent to truly cancerous.
You experience with them will vary from great to god-mode, depending on enemy.
But why this build is the best, even tho there is a lot of powerful stuff in this game, like Allone's death stick or Crypto-blacksword, king-of-oneshots?Because despite it's effectivness it got basically no downsides.
Both weapons obtained early? Check.
Low requirements? 30 str 15 dex - pretty big, but considering it's a late-game-worthy build - not bad at all
Durability? Not an issue. Especially for Craftsman's.
What about weight? 7 Inches combined. Oh, and and weight units too, yes.
Strategy? What's strategy?
Fun? Absolutely.
You don't need to fuel hammers with a buff or use some move that consumes 10 durability per cast to get most of them. You just channel your inner caveman, go nuts while you have green juice, and occasionally dodge when pleb you are bonking gets out of stagger (never).
To conclude and clear some possible misunderstandings, I want to say that my goal with this fanboying isn't to set up two metal pieces and two metal rods as a the only gud build in the game, but rather to encourage everyone who didn't try it yet to join the primal ways at least once during their Drangelic misadventures
