Lances in Dark Souls II are a type of Weapon that's also similar to Spears in terms of range. They are heavier and slower than Spears but have higher damage in both physical and poise damage, which means Lances can be better if range and stagger are what the player seeks as an advantage. Lances can also be considered as a "heavy spear". Lances work best when used for a counterattack, it is also effective for holding choke points when facing a group of enemies. Like Spears, it works best when utilized at narrow spaces. This page covers a list of all Lances in Dark Souls 2.

Personally I think these are way better and more fun to use than Elden Ring's Great spears because rather than just feeling like bigger and slower spears they actually feel very weighty and different to use from spears, and the jousting charge attacks these weapons can do that can send enemies flying are so satisfying to land.

Lances are viable weapons in the right hands. They favor strength over dexterity. I’ve tried a Havel lance build before, and it was really fun

Grand lance can be found in the first area after killing the last giant. An before killing pursuer. Stat requirements can be met by level 30, depending on starting character.
