Lizard Staff is a Staff and one of the available Weapons in Dark Souls 2. Lizard Staff has good scaling for Sorceries, being especially well-suited for intelligence-based builds. Players can obtain it as a rare drop from Hollow Mages in the Undead Purgatory. It has fast casting speed compared to other high-scaling sorcery catalysts but has low durability

Staff used by the fallen sorcerers who wander this land. A catalyst for both sorceries and hexes.

Particularly well-attuned for sorceries.

The lizard bound to its tip is a simple charm, and has no bearing on the staff's powers.

How to get Lizard Staff in Dark Souls 2

  • Drop from Hollow Mage (Black) in Undead Purgatory. They respawn infinitely so long as you don't kill the boss (quit or homeward bone out), so you can farm it without ascetics.

DS2 Lizard Staff Hints and Tips

  • This is a catalyst with better int-scaling in particular than the starting catalyst for sorcerers, but note that it is a very rare drop.
  • While the damage of Staff of Amana (Human form) and Staff of Wisdom outclasses this staff, the S scaling and damage after infusing is a good consideration,
  • This staff is also flexible, works on both casting both sorcery and hex despite the stat is sorcery dedicated, human or not, the output is always stable, it's the utmost reliable sorcery catalyst.
  • Also it seemly has the fastest casting speed among the all three S scaling Sorcery dedicated catalysts.
  • The only downside is the rather low durability, much close to a sorcery dedicated version of Sunset Staff.
  • For a pure sorcerer, or INT-heavy, it's the best sorcery staff among all staves under normal-titanite upgrading path. since Int scaling reaches S scaling upon +10.
  • Staff of Wisdom requires twinkling and is at the very end of the game. Staff of Amana is arguably better while in Human form, but significantly slower and again late-game, this staff only requires Titanite.
  • Recommended to infuse with Faintstone since it has excellent int scaling for Magic and mediocre Dark scaling.
  • Unlike the Bat Staff, which inflicts poison with Dark Fog instantly before Calibration 1.06, this staff does not have the same effect.
  • Compared to Bat Staff after Calibration 1.06, this staff is sorcery dedicated and the casting speed is faster, while Bat Staff is hex dedicated, the casting speed is way slower.
  • a minor note, You cannot reanimate skeleton with this staff, it doesn't have the special attack used by its old owners.
  • However, if you're really that desperate, wanting to command skeletons to do your bidding, Yearn is the spell for you, you can lure them to destructible object to break them.

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.
The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].
This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.

100% worth using if you want to focus on non-hexes sorceries but don't want to reach 35 int. Only downside is other players will believe you want to eat the iguana on your stick.

ok, heres the use case for this thing:

staff of wisdom does more damage if you reach its requirements of 50 int. 110 cast speed.
staff of amana also does more damage if you aren't hollow, but has kinda bad cast speed. (100)
lizard staff only does a little bit less damage than amana, but has good cast speed. (120)
witchtree branch does less than the lizard staff, but has the best cast speed. (140.)

IMO, the cast speed from the lizard staff makes it better than staff of amana since the damage difference so negligible anyways. unfortunately, however, its hard to justify using it over staff of wisdom if you have the 50 int required. reason is, the damage difference is less negligible but the cast speed is.

so, when to use it? probably if you want to have the most well-rounded staff before 50 int, or if you DO have 50+ int but value 10 cast speed over a bit of damage, but also dont value cast speed enough to just use witchtree instead. (lol)

I'm naturally a little obsessive by nature, when I heard of this thing I made sure that every night after me and the Bois played DS2, I spent another 2 hours grinding for this. They thought I was crazy, they told me to give up. After 24 days I got it. Since that moment we all now Lizard Emoji react to cool, lucky or surprising things. No regrets.

I feel like there's a sweet spot between rarity and insane monotony that this game did not understand, such as Blue sentinels or Blood covenant. And also some of these atrocious drop rates.

I love the flavor text "However, if you're really that desperate, wanting to command skeletons to do your bidding, Yearn is the spell for you, you can lure them to destructible object to break them."

took me 35~ minutes by only killing one hollow mage see if its drop, if not then quit out, repeat. and also throw one alluring skulls before reaching the hollow mage to ease the process

Got this on one of the mages in the cave at Huntsman's Corpse on my first run through. Didn't realize it was that rare :D

Just finally managed to pick this BAMF up. For the record, I was using the covetous gold serpent ring +1, jesters hat, and watchdragon parma. It dropped from the second necromancer in the boss fight, at the end. I got also 3 hats, 8 robes, and 15 amber herbs in probably 15-20 hours of farming (idk how much time is spent on the menu screen and loading). This was SotFS. Good luck fellas.

If I were locked in a room and told I didn't get to come out until I had gotten this staff, I'd be scared for my life.

Day 92 of farming this staff. My cock is gone. Balls nearly there - if I don't get it soon, they'll be as nonexistent as the staff.

Even while wearing the traveler's merchant hat, it took me forever to get a lizard staff from one of those black hollow mages (I hadn't made it to the Iron Keep yet, so no jester's hat or gold serpent ring). It wasn't until I used a rusted coin with the TM hat that the staff finally dropped.
