Standard straight sword.

This straight sword is sufficient in most respects, and effective in most situations if wielded properly. Those who aspire to master the sword are certain to wield this at some point during their journey.

 

Location:

  • A Fire Longsword can be acquired from a cavern near the Cardinal Tower bonfire (The one with the Flame Lizard at the end, behind a broken grate), this variant is commonly used by beginners and seasoned players alike, as it makes a good early-game weapon.
  • Sold by Blacksmith Lenigrast for 1300 souls.
  • Drop from Darkdwellers in No-Man's Wharf.
  • In Majula Mansion as limited edition reskinned weapon during the release of Crown of the Ivory King DLC, and with the 1.10 patch. See Events for seasonal details.

 

Hints and Tips:

  • The Longsword has slightly lower base damage than a Broadsword, but it has a powerful thrusting attack when 2-handing and exceptionally fast, which the broadsword lacks and is overall one of the most versatile weapons in the game.
  • Has a full suit of thrusting attacks except for the one handed strong attack which is a slashing attack.
  • The 2 handed thrust has a Counter Modifier of 100 instead of 110. Therefore you can't inflict Counter damage with it unless you have the Old Leo Ring equipped.
  • The one handed normal attack is incredibly fast and can easily catch opponents midroll if they try to roll through your attack.
  • Most heavily armored enemies, such as the large sentinels in Heide's Tower of Flame and many bosses, are resistant to straight sword slashing damage but weak to strike (blunt) damage. Upgrade weapons with different damage types or you will struggle with some enemies.
  • At Fire +10 with 40 STR/DEX, and 30 INT/FTH the Longsword does 157 + 57 Physical and 157 + 44 Fire Damage (AR 415).

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.
The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].
This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".

Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped.
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has.

      You forgot to mention that the 2-handed thrusting strong attack can stun-lock most of the enemies infinitely, making it a very over-powered weapon.
