Memory of the King Walkthrough

The memory of the king can be activated by approaching the pile of clothes in Vendrick's boss room. You do not need to kill Vendrick. Once you activate the pile you are brought to the boss room before Vendrick became hollowed. Here you can talk to Vendrick and will talk about the crowns and your quest. If the player visit Vendrick after obtaining each of the Crowns from the DLCs, Vendrick dialogue will have new lines.

Dialogue:

As flame rises, so does it fade. Such is the way of things.
Do you intend to link the fire? Then you must first take the throne.
Prove your worth. Find the ancient crowns. Seek adversity, and they will be yours. And your wishes, granted.

If the player has the King's Crown, it continues like this:

The fire...
Coveter of the throne... I am Vendrick, ruler of Drangleic.
Seeker of fire... deliverer of crowns...
What do you see in the flames? Find the crowns, and your own answers.
The crowns hold the strength of lords from times long past.
Seek adversity. As befits you, seeker of fire, coveter of the throne.
I'm no king. I am more fit to be a jester. I was unaware of my own blindness.
We are feeble vessels, with feebler souls.
We would cast aside the prop of life, only to face greater hardship.
Are you another such fool? Or something more?
I fail to see your design, young moth.
I fail to see your design, wee moth.
But I see very little these days.

If the player has the Crown of the Sunken King and the King's Crown, it continues like this:

Seeker of fire, conquerer of Dark. I too sought fire, once.
With fire, they say, a true king can harness the curse.
A lie, but I knew no better.
Seeker of fire, you know not the depth of Dark within you.
It grows deeper still, the more flame you covet.
Flame, oh flame, I am king of this wretched unravelled kingdom.
I subdued the giants, and claimed their strength, so that I might step closer to fire.
Drangleic will fall. The fire will fade, and the souls of old will reamerge.
With Dark unshackled, a curse will be upon us.
And men will take their true shape.

If the player has the King's Crown, the Crown of the Sunken King and the Crown of the Old Iron King, it continues like this:

Seeker of fire, I see you've subdued another foul creature.
One of the Father of the Abyss' spawn. That confounded quintessence of Humanity.
The abyss once had form, but then disappated. And yet traces of its existence endured.
Each fragment, thirsting for power, spread Dark with no relent.
My dear Shandra, was one such fragment.
The feeble, tiny thing that thirsted for power more than any other. Driven by unsatiable lust for a worthy vessel.
Fire came to be, and with it disparity. Heat and cold, life and death, light and dark.
Dark was seen as a curse. Shadow is not cast, but born of fire.
And the brighter the flame, the deeper the shadow.
Inherit fire, and harness the dark. Such is the calling of a true leader.

If the player has the King's Crown, the Crown of the Sunken King, the Crown of the Old Iron King and the Crown of the Ivory King, it continues like this:

One day fire will fade, and dark will become a curse.
Men will be free from death, left to wander eternally.
Dark will again be ours, and in our true shape, we can bury the false legends of yore.
Only... is this our only choice?
Seeker of fire, coveter of the throne, seek strength. The rest will follow.

Vendrick will then grant the player Vendrick's Blessing. When dying while wearing any of the Crowns the player won't turn hollow, similar the the Ring of Life Protection, but will still have to recover lost souls. The player also becomes immune to the curse effect. The blessing is lost upon going into the next playthrough, and you must obtain the crowns again in the next playthrough to recieve the blessing again.

Great dlcs and a fulfilling final reward. There's a noticable difference in development skill when compared to the base game. The 3 optional co-op areas were very bad but clearly experimental. It's bittersweet, but I'm somewhat glad the lore and writing is laughably bad... Perhaps it gave for more time to spend world building.

Note: This doesn't seem to work on NG+. Meaning you can't get all the crowns in a previous playthrough and then try this earlier in your next run. I believe the real requirement is also having defeated the bosses that hold these crowns, not just the crowns themselves.

While reading this page I thought that by getting all 4 crowns before going into the memory, I'd get all the dialogue available.
On DS2 SotFS PC, I entered with the 4 crowns in my inventory. I only got about 4 lines of each paragraph written above.
I don't know why it happened, and as it's the only memory I can't go back to, I'm kinda sad.
I guess reading the wiki is currently my only choice.

It should be noted that once you got Vendrick's Blessing, you can never go back to the memory again. So say your goodbyes before talking to him

And so... It wasn't all for nothing. The legend was real. One can truly save themselves from going hollow in this land of Drangleic. Only... the legend had become told and retold many times, and the actual details became obscured... Yes... you need the souls of four great ones. But not the ones you are told of. You need the souls of these great rulers. The Sunken King. The Burnt Ivory King. Nadalia. Vendrick. Once you have embraced their souls and acquired the symbol of their rule, their crowns... then, and only then, can one save themselves from going Hollow.

I went up to the stairs behind Vendrick and...is it just me or I see a figure there before the ashen fades thingie...?

You need the Ashen Mist Heart to enter this. Whoever wrote this is an idiot for not adding this. Don't write again.
