Syan Soldier is an enemy in Dark Souls 2 (DKS2)Syan Soldiers are knights donned in Syan's Set of armor, armed with greatswords or halberds, and shielded with greatshields. Infrequently, they employ special lightning attacks alongside their standard moves. Enemies have their own behavior and unique attacks, killing enemies provide various drops that reward players with items and souls.

Dark Souls 2 Syan Soldier Information

"High-ranking Drangleic knights whose weapons and armor are modeled after those borne by Sir Syan, one of King Vendrick's bravest military leaders. Sir Syan met a dishonorable end on the battlefield during the war with the Giants;' shortly thereafter all of the knights who had been issued replicas of his armor went insane after putting them on.

Equipped with greatswords or halberds, these knights are also equipped with greatshields as well. They wear Syan's Set of armor, and have special lightning attacks they use rarely."

Syan Soldier Strategy Tips in DKS2

  • Halberd knights can be backstabbed more around the arm they wield their halberd in, just around the elbow, while the sword ones are more around the right shoulder, their windows are small so make sure you have enough stamina to block or roll away if you miss
  • Ice Rapier seems very effective on them (thrusting weapons highly effective?)

I get killed by everything all the time and this guy is the easiest enemy I've faced. Slow attacks, long recovery and middling reach. More of this kind of thing, please!

      • Anonymous

Pretty decent parry practice dummies, particularly the sword-wielding ones since their attacks are not too unpredictable and most of their attacks have similar timings, the Spear Ones are kinda hard to parry consistently in my experience tho since their attacks range from fast pokey-poke moves to really really slow overhead swings with very high tracking.

        • It's bloody shame they don't drop the sword they wield, I'd love to add that to my collection.

Note: I know they drop the Greatsword but that's obviously not what they swing about when fighting.

I’m pretty sure Syan was a kingdom that sent troops of knights to aid Drangleic in the war against the giants. And Sir Syan was the king of Syan. If that’s not obvious enough.

            • I don't think I've ever seen the "roaming soul" variant use those lightning attacks but the ones in Drangleic Castle/Undead Crypt do them frequently. Anyone care to correct me?

Wrong, there are non respawning syan knights guarding doors that require the king’s ring. One is in the forest of fallen giants. You start at the cardinal tower bonfire, go down the ladder, go across the bridge, throuhh the door that requires the soldier’s key and then to the left. There is another one in the shaded woods at the second bonfire go along the left path. It’s pretty straight forward. There is also a non respawning one guarding the loot in huntsmans copse. From the second bonfire go across the bridge, follow the path, turn right and stick to the edge on the right and you should see a mossy stone dome with a hole in it to drop down to. Be careful as this one is an enclosed space. I don’t know if he does high damage because I just got around him and backstabbed and killed him while he was getting up again. For a reference to my progress in the game I’ve cleared heide’s tower, went to and cleared no-mans wharf, and reached the lost bastille. I also cleared the forest of fallen giants, cleared the shaded woods and ruins, am about to clear doors of pharros, and lastly I cleared huntsmans copse and beat the executioner’s chariot. None of the syan soldiers at this point respawn and they aren’t wandering or lost, they’re non-respawning guards and this wiki is full of crap sometimes.
