Bastard Sword is a Greatsword and one of the available Weapons in Dark Souls 2. Bastard Sword in Dark Souls 2 is a standard greatsword designed for two-handed wielding. It is effective against multiple foes but leaves the wielder vulnerable during its large swinging arcs.
A standard greatsword. Heavy greatswords are designed to be wielded two-handed.
Normally swung in large arcs and effective against multiple foes, be wary that such attacks leave the wielder wide open.
How to get Bastard Sword in Dark Souls 2
1. Treasure in Forest of Fallen Giants. Note that you must kill area boss first. Directions:
- Go down the ladder from the second Bonfire in the Forest of Fallen Giants.
- Facing the ladder, turn to your left; kill the bridge and feinted hollow soldiers.
- Continue past where the feinted hollow was sitting; turn left and through a short hallway.
- On the other side of the hallway, turn right and go through a locked door (using the soldier key you get from killing the boss in this area).
- Go down the stairs and then straight down a long hallway with torch sconces (Hollow Soldiers and Turtle Knights).
- At the end of the hall, follow it left through another door. Watch yourself here for Turtles and Hollows
- Go straight across the short bridge and open up the door straight ahead (to another Turtle Knight).
- Go through the doorway on your left, careful of the Hollow Infantry x2 ambush.
- Continue left around a large pile of wooden boxes and on a body is the Bastard Sword.
- In SOTFS, the Bastard Sword will be on top of the same building where you would normally find it, although there is 3 Ironclad Soldier around it. In the same area, a red phantom will spawn, Armorer Dennis. He his not an easy phantom to kill. He will not spawn if you do not try to get the bonfire or the wooden chest with the Leather Set inside it.
2. Dropped from bastard sword wielding hollows in the Forest of Fallen Giants.
3. Sold by Steady Hand McDuff for 3000 souls (only one).

The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].

I forgot how good the Bastard Sword was until I picked up the game again recently. That slam down heavy attack is great for small/low hitbox enemies where the thrusting attack of other Greatswords simply go over the the top of enemies. The slam is so nice to get crystal lizards too. Great weapon to carry you through the game.

As my first souls game, I remember I infused this with fire, used tower shield, and also did the game without dodging. Imagine my shock when I was looking YouTube videos for if I missed a area or a boss and saw people DODGING THROUGH ATTACKS. Good times.

+10 and infused, this thing is a PvE monster even with minimum stats to use it one handed.

You were always by my side... My bastard mentor... my guiding greatsword...

For PvE, I prefer this over the Claymore for its lower weight, lower stamina consumption, and higher counter damage.
For PvP, I'll take the Claymore instead for its easy access to thrust attacks.

In the other games your character will move forward when attacking so that you won't knock enemies out of your range and can chain attacks together. Even DS1 did this and you'll almost always be able to follow up your attacks with any greatsword.
But... they just didn't do that in DS2 which makes the Bastard Sword an extremely annoying weapon to use because your character barely moves when attacking which means that you'll frequently knock enemies out of your already short range. Terrible game design.

this really probably is the best greatsword, it's quick unlike bigger sword like Claymore and doesn't take much stamina per swing either, you can mash up most enemies just by swinging it around 2handed R1. Don't hesitate to pump titanite into Bastard Sword from the begining of the game.
The second two-handed heavy attack (Upward slash) also covers behind the player.

powerstancing 2 of these, one with fire and one with lightning, with high strength and faith, absolutely busted amounts of damage
