*When infused: 287 physical dmg/287 elemental dmg and B scaling with chosen element.
Black Dragon Greataxe is a weapon in Dark Souls 2.
In legend, this oddly-shaped greataxe is said to be forged from the Black dragon's tail.
As it is told, the Black dragon lost its tail to a brave warrior in a magnificent battle, and the tail was later used to forge several legendary weapons.
Acquired From
- Very rare drop from Greataxe Dragon Knights in Dragon Shrine. (To increase the item discovery chance of getting these use Symbol of Avarice, Prisoners Tatters, Gold Serpent Ring+2, Watchdragon Parma and 1 Rusted Coin to maximize your chances of getting one)
Hints and Tips:
- Upgraded to +5 with Petrified Dragon Bone.
- As with other dragon weapons, the Black Dragon Greataxe boasts high base damage, but no scaling (unless infused with Enchanted path which it will scale a D in magic bns.)
- Uses Lion Greataxe moveset. When used in a Powerstance with any heavy weapon other than another Greataxe it will use the Lion Greataxe Powerstance moveset.
- Extremely devastating under +5 Raw path combined with Ring of Blade, it only weighs half as much as a Gyrm Greataxe and both deal similiar damage.

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.
The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].
This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped.
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has.

Anyone have an absurd amount of these? Ive been farming them for a bit and i cant seem to get two of them. PSN ID is BearCatRatPack if you do
Could someone kindly provide a valid reason why use greataxes over ultra greatswords for pve? Their 2 handed secondary doesn't kd unlike ultra greatswords. They have same weight requirements and scale on 110 counter strenghth while ultra greatswords on 130.
Heck they even block less, black knight ultra greatsword blocks 69.1% physical in case things go poorly on a random swing,
Second thought- in PVP or in any other case, you can not target enemies and use its unique ground to air slash while turning different directions to clip people rolling or roll and then swing which can catch people too. The jump attack is powerful and wll knock anybody down.
Farmed for this and I have an only 35 str 15 dex build. Bodies are hitting the floor after connecting like twice with this monster. Always use it two handed. It feel like it kinda breaks a little more easily, but thats not that big of a deal. You can have all of the benefit of a strength character (and yes, you still need 35) but make it raw and you certainly dont need to pump any more points into anything else ... I chose vit, end, and vgr. Now my guy is an unstoppable iron monster. You can two shot people in PVP with it too. Its hard to get... so make sure you wear your Jester cap etc. Took about 40ish kills from the golden armored warriors in Dragon Shrine.

For strength builds this is not worth the endless annoying enemy grind despite the wiki claiming it has "similar damage to the Gyrm Greataxe". My Gyrm Greataxe has ~120 more damage, 40 more durability, and 10 more poise damage. Plus the Gyrm Greataxe upgrades with titanite instead of dragon bones, is easy to get duplicates of, and has similar reach (maybe an inch shorter) with a bigger blade. If anything the Black Dragon Greataxe competes with the Lion Greataxe not the Gyrm Greataxe in terms of damage.

Xbone version here. I have been trying to farm a 2nd greatsword off of the phantom or captain, which has given me around 20 extra of these axes, along with many of the shortswords, and a few extra of the warpicks. I am at max soul level, so if you are at a high enough level to meet up, I am happy to give away or trade with anyone. GamerTag is Fester710.

It is so underrated of a weapon,I see so much potential in this weapon and yes i dual wield them in PvE (I was trying to get the black dragon shield)so i have experienced this weapons power and i must say even tho it has no scaling(unless infused with enchanted path which then it scales a D in then)it is a beast weapon.Hoped this helped you realize its strength and if this did spread the word we need more people to know about this =)
If only this one has the same scaling as gyrm greataxe this thing will be massive
