Black Dragon Greatsword is a weapon in Dark Souls 2.
In legend, this oddly-shaped long sword is said to be forged from the black dragon's tail.
As it is told, the black dragon lost its tail to a brave warrior in a magnificent battle, and the tail was later used to forge several legendary weapons.
Acquired From
- Reach rank 3 in the Dragon Remnants covenant (30 Dragon Scales).
- Very rare drop from Dragonfang Villard.
Hints and Tips:
- Upgraded with Petrified Dragon Bone to +5
- This sword has no scaling of any kind, but it will receive a "D" scaling in INT if infused with the Enchanted upgrade path.
- Even with 30 on all stats for a Mundane infusion, the AR of the weapon would be still only 370.
- While the Raw infusion has 391, and they do received additional bonus with Ring of Blades.
- Unlike other weapons that lack scaling, this sword is very receptive to elemental infusion, with a net increase of AR greater than a Raw infusion even with the Ring of Blades.
- You cannot apply consumable buffs to this weapon, however you can buff it with Sorcery, Hex, Pyromancy or Miracle.
Trivia:
- Description may be a reference to Black Dragon Kalameet and the Obsidian Greatsword from Dark Souls, or a further extent, Guyra from King's Field which is obtained by cutting off his tail. Additionally, Just like Black Dragon Sword, the shape of this sword loosely resembles Quelaag's Furysword from Dark Souls, try Flame Weapon for burning effect, it'll completely look like an enlarged Quelaag's Furysword.

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.
The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].
This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped.
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has.

AnonymousWhy oh why doesn't this look like the Obsidian Greatsword... at all!? Better question, why do the 'dragon' weapons look like 'spider' bits. Don't get me wrong, Queelaag's Fury sword is epic! But it's no Obsidian Greatsword. I just think it's weird. They should've used Duke's Dear Freja for the Queelaag stuff.

I've been farming the imperfect things to get PDBs, but have mainly been getting these scales and tons of slabs. The weapon seems extremely underwhelming. Having 40/40 str/dex, is there any reason to use this weapon?

Amazing sword, one of my favorites. Just infuse it with Raw and max it out for 391 phisical damage, ring of blades works with it even though there isnt any scaling damage

The design of black dragon equipment reminds me of deadric equipment from Skyrim.

The guy who said "I got one from killing *A* Dragonfang Villard" is bullshitting, he didn't even know that your talking about the NPC invader considering he was speaking about *them* or plural..

After farming Dragonfang Villard with 100 bonfire aesthetics, I've come to the conclusion the only thing he drops is Dragon Scales on rare and only that. Not once did I get the Black Dragon Greatsword or even a Black Dragon Shield.
Xboxone, SotFS here. I've been farming for a second of these swords, but no luck yet. On a positive note, I have almost 150 extra drgonscales that I'm happy to share. GamerTag Fester710, soul tier maximum. Cheers
Can someone confirm, that he really drops the Black Dragon Greatsword (PC DX9 Version)? I tried to farm it for quite some time (killed him ~350 times with item-find-items), but he only dropped Dragon Scales (not even the shield). I started farming before I had any ranks for the Dragon Remnants. Got the sword finally with bringing the Covenant to rank 3. But it seems for me, he is not dropping anything but Dragon Scales. Maybe it has to do with me being in NG+?

Mundane +5 & all stats at 99 makes this sword reaches 420 AR (470 if equipping the Ring of Blade +2)
