Black Dragon Sword is a weapon in Dark Souls 2.

In legend, this oddly-shaped straight sword is said to be forged from the black dragon's tail.
As it is told, the black dragon lost its tail to a brave warrior in a magnificent battle, and the tail was later used to forge several legendary weapons.

Hints and Tips:

Hints and Tips:

  • Upgraded with Petrified Dragon Bone to +5.
  • Shares the same move set as the broadsword: all one- and two-handed moves are horizontal sweeping strikes but is even shorter in reach.
  • At +5 Raw, this weapon has an impressive 345 Attack Rating, surpassing Enchanted path. Only 5 points less than a Drakekeeper's Sword with 40/40 str/dex.
  • Very receptive to elemental infusion, with a net increase of AR greater than a Raw infusion even with the Ring of Blades.
  • Just like Black Dragon Greatsword, this weapon loosely resembles Quelaag's Furysword from Dark Souls, buff it with Flame Weapon to bring back Quelaag's signature weapon to life.

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.
The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].
This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped.
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit

    • There is a third sword-wielding knight, right next to the corpse with the skeptic's spice in the with theDrakkeeer en route to the egg. If the sword only drops from those bearing swords (as is standard), this is another option.

Says it has shorter reach than the broadsword but looks about the same length of the Drakekeeper's Sword. Can anyone confirm if the reach is that bad?

Raw +5 and the Ring of Blades +2 -- 395 AR
Any elemental damage +5 and no rings -- 420 AR
I'm sorry, but how exactly is Raw the best infusion for this weapon?

          • Anonymous

so with fire infusion and flame weapon it deals 210 physical, and (210+50)x1.3 fire damage (338), before rings. as long as i'm doing quelaag's fury sword this looks viable to me

Wiki seems incorrect - I farmed one off the two sword-wielding knights up the stairs to the left of the mace-wielding drakekeeper, close to the beginning of the level (also got a warpick and a shield despite neither wielding a warpick, so that's weird). You can easily run by the first two drakekeepers so you only need to fight the 2 relevant dragon bros. The 2v1 fight can be tedious and it takes forever to farm this damn thing. Probably the hardest to farm weapon in the game, I think it took me longer than collecting the 50 souls for eleum loyce and the 30 sunlight medals for the sun sword combined, ugh. Personally I went with a dark orb setup, worked pretty decently. Good luck!

              • The guy from FromSoftware in charge of the loot system and item drop rate of DS2 is a f***tard. Especially considering the non respawning enemy system. Even using personnal saves, obtaining this sword is such a drudgery, and is the opposite of fun. DS1 loot system was better balanced. TBH, in DS2 I spend most time copy-pasting my personnal saves than playing the game, because there is so many items that need an incredible luck to drop.

Anyone got an extra? (no luck so far farming with champion covenant for the scales/sword both) lol got the shield/pick already though.

sooooo can you grab the sword from any of the Black Dragon Knights who have the sword on them or only the one at the bottom of the stair? because I see no difference in him or the others, this website really *****s up on alot of specific details that are very important.
