Blacksteel Katana is a weapon in Dark Souls 2.

Acquired From:
- Dropped by Alonne Knight and Alonne Knight Captain at the Iron Keep and Memory of the Old Iron King.
Hints and Tips:
- Upgraded with regular Titanite to +10.
- Moveset is identical to Iaito from Dark Souls, which the strong attack is quickdraw slash.
- You can speed up the strong attack quickdraw by wielding it with both hand, roll, light attack and then strong attack. (2H -> Roll -> 2HR1 -> 2HR2)
- And therefore, you can go for this combo: Roll -> 2HR1 -> 2HR2 -> 2HR2 (slash, quickdraw with delay canceled, thrust)
- Blacksteel Katana keeps S DEX scaling with most infusions; however this is only visual; the actual scaling is closer to B (~50% of S scaling).
Trivia:
- As a promotion for the Crown of the Old Iron King DLC, a special white-hilted Blacksteel Katana was put inside the Majula mansion chest. This promotion has long since expired, and unless by trading, this version of the weapon is no longer accessible through conventional means.
- The weapon is modeled after the chokutō, an early Japanese sword that predates the katana. The chokutō has a single-edged straight blade and sometimes lacks fittings such as the tsuba (the handguard).

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.
The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].
This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped.
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has.

I would not use this unless you are rocking pure DEX of at least 50. Otherwise it just feels weak. Sad cuz the Iaito was one of my favorite weapons in DSI. I think this one might have less reach than it did, too.

I've always hated using Katanas on the souls series. I never thought they were that fun.
But, hey, powerstancing is fun. And powerstancing blacksteel katanas with RoB+2, Flynn's ring, etc, and doing easily 1000+ damage on a powerstance attack? It was really funny.

I was very surprised when i first saw that scaling. How the hell do you even keep an S scaling with almost all the infusions?

So I see it's got really insane counter damage, but the base AR seems to be pretty weak and it's quite short for a katana. Am I missing something here or is this a bad weapon?
