      NOT JUST PHYSICAL DAMAGE
This ring's defense bonus applies to all damage types not just physical, just like the red tear stone ring applies to all damage types, unknown as to if it affects fall damage, poison damage is not reduced by the ring however the ring will defend against buildup, this is also true for all other status effects.
Though not tested since the ring increases defense stats (more specifically to the player's existing armor reduction percentages (if you do not understand please see the armor mechanics that will clear things up)) the ring will not reduce damage done from already inflicted poison/toxic (that part is proven), it follows to say the ring will not protect from fall damage, symbol of avarice, bleed, or any other effects that deal damage regardless of the player's armor.

say shield has 70% reduction to a damage type, will the shield have 100% reduction to that damage type when player's health reaches 30%?
