Broken Straight Sword is a weapon in Dark Souls 2.
Straight Sword with its blade broken near in half. Nearly useless in battle, but "nearly useless" trumps "empty-handed.
Acquired From
- Warrior starting equipment.
- Sold by Merchant Hag Melentia for 400 souls.
- Treasure in the Forest of Fallen Giants: Right next to the Heide Knight (Knight In White) on the big tree In The Crestfallen's Retreat.
- SOTFS: Two can be found on corpses strewn around the big tree.
Hints and Tips:
- When Power Stanced with a Piercing Sword, it makes the moveset that of a straight sword powerstance while keeping the low stamina costs.
- Despite the comparatively low attack power, the Broken Straight Sword has extremely low stamina drain. This can result in heavy damage, provided the target doesn't get pushed out the weapon's reach or manage to "poise out" of the combo.
- Used with mundane in old patches of the game, current balancing make Raw a more viable infusion.
- When elementally infused, the low weight and VERY low stat requirements make it useful for providing auxiliary elemental damage options for a variety of builds.

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.
The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].
This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped.
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has.

Low damage, durability, and range. That's pretty much what you expect from this thing...
... but what you don't expect is for the low stamina consumption, combined with the fast swing speed, to be it's saving grace, with the right rings and/or infusion paths. Truly a dagger among straight swords in this regard.

Can someone explain to me why so many people say this is a good weapon?
- Anonymous
nearly useless trumps empty-handed. That's gotta be the rawest line in the entire series.
at the time of writing i have 500 hours ingame, and i just did a broken straight sword only run (no shield) this run was my most successful ever, game beaten faster than any other run.
Crap scaling means use bare min stats and put lvls elsewhere, flyns ring is a must.
powerstanced poison BSS was great agaisnt velstatd when he had too much armor and then switch to lightning when poisoned.
It's not broken because of the snapped and chipped blade. It's broken because of the slow stunlocked kills in PvP when you pair this with the Stone Ring.

With a fire infusion this weapon will be called The Straight sword of Spice.

This thing really does good on a strength build with little to no dexterity, while wearing RoB, and maybe with Flynn's as well. Why do I say this? Well, between the fast speed, low stamina consumption, and low requirements, and ease of attaining copies to balance out the low durability issue... It proves itself a surprisingly useful addition to an undead's arsenal. I've also had it come in handy on my sorcerer near the start of the game, and I also hear that it does great for mundane and poison builds, so... What is not to love about this supposedly "nearly useless" weapon? <3

I cannot edit the page but it looks like a typo in the description: ..."nearly useless" trumps "empty-handed. Corrected: ..."nearly useless" trumps "empty-handed". Just noticed it and thought it was worth mentioning if anyone occasionally. sweeps through the wiki to correct minor problems with pages
By the gods whatever you do..... don’t break the broken straight sword...... it makes it too OP!!!
