Official Announcement for Scholar of the First Sin

We’re very excited to announce Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin!

Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin will be launching in the Americas on April 7, 2015 on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, and PC/Steam (DirectX 9/DirectX11)!

Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin will include the three previously released DLC packs - Crown of the Sunken KingCrown of the Old Iron King, and Crown of the Ivory King - along with additional features.

All versions of the game will include the following features ( Existing Dark Souls II owners will receive a patch to implement these elements):

  • Additional NPCs added for an enhanced story experience.
  • Parameter adjustments for improved game balance.
  • Augmented item descriptions.
  • Improved online matchmaking functionality.

Xbox One, PS4, and DirectX 11 versions of the game will include the following features (in addition to those listed above):

  • Additional upgrades to graphics, sound, performance.
  • Increase in maximum online players in single session (6 total).

Details translated from a famitsu interview by Tanimaru:

New NPC-related events.

  • A new NPC that will act as a narrator or guide. The NPC will be providing more story elements, and has an unusual form.

This NPC has a lot of knowledge of Drangleic, and will lead players "somewhere they’ve never been before". This NPC ties in to the subtitle of this release (Scholar of the First Flame). Tanimura mentions that we'll have to play for ourselves to find out more about this.

  • There will be some revisions to the item descriptions. Supposedly, Tanimura mentioned: "Rather than make everything easy to understand or reveal the whole truth, our approach is more like dropping a few more hints that will spur the imagination of players". This means the item descriptions will still keep the same level of ambiguity as before.

Things related to multiplayer (not sure if these are for all versions, this remains to be seen):

  • They're planning to make it so that players in NG will be able to connect to players in NG+ and beyond. Also they plan to "relax" the matchmaking requirements and "break down the barriers" by allowing players to self-adjust their total accumulated souls.
  • The game will same level of detail that is available in the current Windows version (No word on the Windows DirectX 11 version yet).
  • Tanimura gives an example of an area that will have its number of enemies increased. There will be more spiders in Brightstone Cove Tseldora.

currently wondering why it says that the blue smelter demon fight is available through a dlc yet there are no dlc's for scholar of the first sin...help?

      • Wait, so I bought the SofFS cd version for my 360 for nothing? I don't even get the new npc/boss or new endings, or anything? Because I pretty much had most if not all the added weapons on my vanilla version.

llevo mas de la mitad del juego y no he encontrado el anillo de proteccion de vida (el que cuando mueres no pierdes tus almas), lo retiraron del juego? o en que parte se consigue?

            • Anonymous

Yeah it's wonderful how every time I move 50 feet back to an area I have to listen to/watch the enemies I've already beaten hit the ground again. Very update

I would be very scared to install this, seeing as the original game is already difficult enough (I haven't even got through one game cycle yet).

Ok so I haven't gotten this game, I just want to know the reviews from people who've actually played it. Is it good? Bad? In between?

                  • Anonymous

So, I've had the original DS2 for a while now, and just got my hands on the SOTFS edition. I understand that they are not compatible with each other. So if I install SOTFS, does that means I'll have two different Dark Souls 2 on my PS3?

                    • Anonymous

So... I got this for the PS4.
I played every Dark Souls, except the DLCs for DkS2. And damn this version of the game broke me. I don't know why, but this feels like the hardest Dark Souls I ever played. Did SL1 runs in the first one, DkS3 felt pretty easy. But this one... sheesh.

Had the game for 2 days digitally and still didn't press start. I'm hesitating. I want my hand to be held and want a youtuber with good explanations. pls share names.

ive got both sotfs and normal dark souls 2 but no new enemy placements no dragon in heide tower i do get the keys but nothing else which is realy annoying i need some help

                          • Anonymous

I need help, in my version of sotfs in my ps3 the forlorn wont show up and the 3 dlc keys are automatically in my inventory plus the first bonfire (Royal Army Campsite) is still inside the tent

                            • Anonymous

I have not played dark souls 2 yet but I want to get it. I was going to buy this sotfs edition but I've heard the new loot and enemy placements are for the worse, is that true? I'm kinda leaning towards buying the original because I don't think the graphical changes would effect me that much on pc. Correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks!

                              • I added the Watchdragon Parma on "New Item Effects" and edited the page to add the effect (as anonymous). Watchdragon Parma, after patch 1.10, increases item discovery when equipped, but I don't know how many. I don't know if it stacks with other "increase item discovery" items.
