 DS2 Defender Greatsword Hints and Tips

  • Reinforced with Petrified Dragon Bone to +5.
  • Pressing L2 while two-handing will cast a Sunlight Blade-style buff consuming 10 durability. The buff lasts 45 seconds and is not affected by the Lingering Dragoncrest Ring Or Northwarders set.
  • This is an excellent sword for a Faith build. Infuse with lightning, and once fully upgraded, it can deal over 300 lightning damage at 50 Faith. That's not including the 200-300 physical damage.
  • Its self buff follows the same formula as sunlight blade when enchanting an innate elemental weapon.

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.
The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].
This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped.
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has.

      It’s a pretty good sword on a Faith build. Serves well lightning infused and the innate buff saves you one spell slot.

      The moveset is alright, the single handed heavy attack is a thrust which comes in handy in narrow areas.

      You’ll need a backup weapon or repair powder, though. This thing breaks quite fast especially if you use the buff.

        Is this stronger on a build where you have only like 20-30 faith and mostly Str and dex or will this be stronger with 50 faith and only 20str and 12dex?

          Shame that the self-buff only lasts 45 seconds, half as long as Sunlight Blade. That's gonna be a pain, especially in boss fights.

            Cannot be buffed with Sunlight Blade, because it already has a special buff when pressing L2 while two-handed. Make sure you bring along repair powder.

              Faith builds are sleeping on this weapon. This weapon gets superior scaling in lightning when infused. Most weapons scale at about 70% of their primary stat whereas this bad boy scales at around 100%. Combine with a built in sunlight blade and you're gonna be hitting for around 600-700
