Enemies

Forest Grotesque (Goblin) is an enemy in Dark Souls 2.

Goblins are humanoid creatures that lurk in the Shaded Woods. These deformed monstrosities give a grotesque impression and do not appear to be products of a natural evolution; rather they seem to have once been human. What twisted force could have rent their humanity and left them in this sad stateā€¦?

Strategy tips

  • Rush or bait their attacks and dodge/block and then dispatch. Ranged classes take out from range.

Set off explosive barrels (SotFS only) in shaded woods to alert the goblins on the upper floor before unpetrifying Rosabeth. That way you can leave the room without them following you making it much easier to take them out.

You can make the goblin ambush between Majula and the Shaded Woods (where you unpetrify the Pyromancer NPC) more manageable. You need to do this before unpetrifying the NPC. This little tactic makes it very easy to avoid the ambush with any base level character. In the first room, kill the first two in the doors you can open. Then shoot off one of the doors on the second floor that you cannot climb to with a crossbow (two handed, if necessary). Then, carefully throw bombs into the room of the door you shot off. There is an invisible barrier that deflects your bombs because the programmers did not want you to do this, but if you throw bombs just right, they will go over the invisible barrier and land in the room and damage the goblin before the ambush ever spawns. Once that goblin is damaged, they will all jump down. However, as you have not unlocked the passage, you can simply run out side where there is more room to melee or range attack, making it trivial. Then unpetrify the NPC. Talk to her and exhaust her dialog. Exit the game and re-start and she will be gone. Then open the door and you only have one enemy to contend with instead of an ambush.
