Greatsword of the Forlorn is a weapon in Dark Souls 2.
Greatsword of the Forlorn, who wander the land of the Undead.
The King's elder brother Aldia sought to overcome the curse through means unalike his sibling's.
The Forlorn were born of Aldia's sinful infatuation.
Acquired From
- Purchased from Straid of Olaphis for 10000 souls.
- This weapon is a Scholar of the First Sin exclusive for Ps4, Xbox1 & PC
Hints and Tips:
- Upgraded with Twinkling Titanite to +5.
- Scales with how hollow you are just like the dark pyromancy flame.
- The last item unlocked from Straid after the NPC invader "Forlorn" with a greatsword is defeated after already having defeated them 4 or more times.
- It would appear that "Bleed" is the best upgrade path due to higher Dark scaling, higher base damage, and paired with it's natural bleed effect.

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.
The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].
This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped.
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has.

Realizing I have to be super hollowed to make full use of this greatsword makes me feel very forlorn.

Requirements: half hp bar.
Now, it looks like the dark sword from ds1 and ds3 (wich is ok, they were greatsword-sized anyway), but upon closer inspection is far more scary. The hilt is your typical black wooden stick, but the guard is bassicaly a mass of corpses similar to new londo corpses or the rotten's. Then the blade is a thick hunk of onyx with channels glowing red in it and, judging that bleed infusion improves this weapon in every way, i guess it's some sort of cursed blood flowing through the channels. The fact that it gets stronger with your hollowing must be similar to how demonbrandt got stronger with darker tendency, as both greatswords feeds off your lack of humanity. Sick design.

Dark Sword from DS1/DS3: Who are you?
GS of the Forlorn: I'm you, but stronger.

It seems odd that Forlorn, while wielding this, deals no bleed.
This is pretty good fashion wise but damn those requirements are awful

Darkness! Imprisoning me! All that I see! Absolute horror, I cannot live! I cannot die! Trapped in myself! Body my holding cell!

Confused. It says bleed is the best upgrade path because of it's higher dark scaling. Wouldn't a dark infusion, and dark buff make this thing do insane dark damage and be the better upgrade path? I'm a Hexer and fairly new to the game, using the dark Roaring Halberd and dark crypt blacksword buffed with dark weapon right now, but this is attractive because it only weighs 9. What am I missing?

It's not always the last of the set that get's unlocked, like statet here. I had a playthrough were i unlocked the scythe first, but also a run i unlocked the sword first. Maybe it depends on which of the two you get invaded more often? Not sure though.
- Anonymous
look at the crossgaurd closley, and you'll see a bunch of hollows melted on the sword
- Anonymous
I'd imagine this and the scythe works well with a dark pyro flame build, what with the hollow scaling and dark damage.

My main weapon, but with humanity restored it's better to use you fists! Really annoying, as to do a lot in the game and online you need to not be hollowed. Damn you, whoever created this!
- Anonymous
So how do you achieve the state of "fully hollowed"? How many times do you need to die?

How does this guy behave with mundane? Does it ignore the non hollow debuff?

Seeing as the iconic blade of the Darkwraiths is not present in DS2, could the Forlorn greatsword be its equivalent? If you look at the design of the two, there are very distinct similarities - namely the blade's shape is /eerily/ similar, and even the hilt has a roughly similar outline. Seeing how Dark Souls seems to have a lot of repeated themes and very few things are coincidence, there might be something there. Also notable is that if this really /is/ the equivalent of the Dark Sword, the Forlorn would probably be closely linked to Darkwraiths. They do invade you, but do we know of any other connections? I don't personally, so if anyone could fill me in on that that'd be fantastic. Also, size seems to be a definite counter of strength and/or power in the Soulsverse; Dancer of the Boreal Valley just to name one boss is /much/ larger when you meet her in comparison to the "ghost" you can spot when nearing the Pontiff. walking down steps with a male knight. Likewise Gwyn from DS1, a god of sunlight we'd assume is vastly powerful, is met in his hollowed form - much smaller than anticipated and accompanied by a sad, sad tune.If we take this logic, could that also apply to weapons as well? That in this time, Dark is particularly strong - manifested in the design of one of the tools most associated with it, the Dark Sword?
I just tested, using the ring of binding does not affect the damage, at least on SOTFS. Just make sure you're fully hollowed (go to the jars in shaded woods if you don't want to suicide a bunch)
