Havel's Greatshield is a Greatshield in Dark Souls 2. Greatshields can be used not only to block an enemy but allows player to do a shield bash. (Greatshields replace the parry ability with a heavy shield bash)
Acquired From
- The Gutter. The first bonfire. Get the Forgotten key from Black Gulch. On the first platform after the bonfire, jump to the platform on the upper left and proceed past the enemies to the room full of poisonous statues and open the door using the Forgotten Key. It will be in a pot along with the other parts of the Havel set.
Hints and Tips:
- The ideal shield for any tank build. the incredible stability means you'll be losing very little stamina from melee attacks, usually allowing you to regain the stamina lost between attacks while keeping your shield up (!). the weight and the strength requirement mean it's not viable unless you're committing to a strength+vitality build.
- A good countermeasure against this shield would be a Mundane Mail Breaker, Bleed or Poison weapons.
- The shield bash will become extremely powerful when the shield is upgraded to +5. Great for staggering opponents.

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.
The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].
This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped.
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has.

Gyrm shield are a simple 2 rock united by some woodden plank, does block 100% fire damage. Havels Greatshield was forged out of strong stones (according ro ds1 description), does not block 100% fire damage.
Idk what do you say

I use it with my hex/strength build. Great for when enemies get too close for comfort.
Combine with Illusory Ring of the Conqueror in order to frustrate and confuse your opponent

The super quick leaping attack paired with insane stability make this thing a more viable weapon than even most greathammers at the strength required to use it properly. If you don't have it at +5, you're missing out

This thing is great and all that, but that 20 weight value makes my heart ache.

Use the ring for better stability and great shield barrier, almost infinite block

have just started a char that is supposed to have absurd armor and HP but im not there yet. playing with friends i use the old WoW tanking tactic of tanking (red eye ring and great shield). I dont yet have enough carry capacity to have a weapon aswell but i notices this shield does absurd damage. upgraded its crazy strong. jumping attack is super quick and reaches far which is a lot better than the slow sweep you other wise get. Im surprised by how many animations it has as well and you never run out of stamina. Its so good its absurd. youll have to gill the giants in the gutter to get it tho.

The damage on this shield is retarded totally catches people ofguard doing that much damage with usually a stagger on the hit almost no one bothers to block it

in my opinion the Drake Greatsheild is a better alternative to havels Greatsheild because of the amount of strength needed to wield havels and they have about the same resistances other than a savier lack of stabilaty
not only is it a good shield, its a good weapon as well
