Location

• Invisible
  • Spend 16,000 souls at Maughlin's shop in Majula then return when you have zero souls. Talk to him, and he'll give you the set.
  • Armor can be dropped by Dark Spirit Rhoy the Explorer in Grave of Saints.

• Visible
  • The entire visible Aurous Set drops from a Dark Spirit at No-Man's Wharf on the ship in NG+ and above (Spawns once per playthrough, bonfire ascetic required).
  • [Scholar of the First Sin] Found in a chest near Heide Knight (wearing Iron Mask) in The Gutter. To find the knight, reach the first Swollen Mongrel past the first long bridge, turn to the opposite direction, cross the house and drop down.

• Invisible
  • Upgraded with Twinkling Titanite.
  • Raises equipment load (+5% for full set).
  • Contrary to popular belief, this set does not become visible by ranking up in the Company of Champions. Rather, the visible set is dropped by a Dark Spirit at No-Man's Wharf in NG+.
  • Armor becomes visible when aiming a bow. This can only be seen briefly as you change to First-Person view.
