Small Shields | Parry | ||
Enchantable | No Special |
Manikin Shield is a shield used by the manikins of Harvest Valley in DS2.
"A shield used by the
manikins of Harvest Valley.
The peculiar art of puppetry
is a vestige of the two lost lands.
The Queen, entranced by poison,
used it to beckon unknowing souls
to the defiled valley."
Small Shields can be used not only to block an enemy but to parry their attack as well. This allows a riposte, a free attack by the player for a high amount of damage. Enemy attacks can be interrupted with a parry (pressing the Strong Attack button for the shield) and requires practice to learn the timing.
Acquired From:
- Dropped from male manikins wielding a shield in Earthen Peak.
Hints and Tips:
- Poor shield for parrying as it features the slow parry animation, despite not having additional parry frames.
- Upgraded with regular titanite.

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.
The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].
This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped.
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has.

I love this shield for light armor & light weapon builds (like rogue/thief/assassin builds) and I think it's amazing for parrying. Idk what the person who wrote this wiki was talking about it when they said it's bad for parrying. They haven't experimented enough with this shield imo. It also has very decent defenses for it's light weight.

Best parry sheild. Has long parry animation, which means it has the quickest startup and longest parry frames. Keep in mind that when you miss a parry and take a hit, it will still "block" the hit, and this shield has the best defenses and stability of all the small shields for taking such a hit. Only bested by the llewelyn shield it terms of stability, and a few shields beat it in certain defenses, but on the whole, this is the most flexible.

In the parry frama database it is called a slow parry shield. Has it less parry frames although it has the same movement as the Buckler and the Target Shield?
"Dropped from male manikins" You mean there are female manikins?
