Mastodon Halberd is a weapon in Dark Souls 2
"Halberd of the Primal Knights that defend Drangleic castle.
The brutish and might Primal Knights wield this halberd like a feather-light twig, but to the ordinary warrior it is a chore to even hold up, owing to its great weight.
Terrible experiments were said to have taken place in a hidden manor in Drangleic. The mastermind presiding over the deeds was thought to be Lord Aldia".
Acquired From
- Primal Knights in Drangleic castle
- "Rusted" Primal Knights in Doors of Pharros.
Hints and Tips:
- Moveset identical to regular
Halberd.
In particular, normal attack when shield is raised becomes a thrusting attack similar to that of a spear.
- In PvP, hitting this weapon's 2 handed dashing attack will easily break through most opponents' guards or outright kill them if they take full damage from all 3 swings. This attack's range and damage are unbelievably good, although it does drain a lot of stamina.
- To counter: either use high stability shields or focus on dodging behind the halberd wielder. They will be more vulnerable than most if their attacks are blocked (with a greatshield) or dodged.
- This weapon's durability decreases faster than most other weapons in the game. Unlike with great weapons, it takes a durability penalty when hitting the floor, and this weapon's move animations causes it to hit the floor often. This weapon also takes an abnormal amount of durability damage when hitting monsters and even when being hit (without using it to block).

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.
The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].
This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped.
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has.

I think the most satisfying thing in this game is getting clean hits on enemies with this weapon

You can also get the Mastodon Halberd from the one leading from Heide’s tower of flame bonfire to No Man’s Wharf! I used a rusted coin and a dragon watchdog parma and was able to get it.

Is Lightning Mastodon Halberd +10 still good with 40 STR and 65 Faith?
- Anonymous
50STR and this can keep up with the AR of some of my ultra weapons. Seriously powerful thing (like all halberds that correlate to common builds in this game) but the sweet spot can be more finicky than, say, the longer halberds such as dragonrider's or roaring. It'll still carry you through both PvE and PvP. A good counter to this, if that's why you're on this page, is to stay very close to the wielder. If you have a faster weapon (straight sword) and high enough poise, you can out-DPS them due to the halberd only hitting you with its shaft instead of its head

The durability doesn’t seem to be much of a issue with this weapon, I went through the entire second part of shrine of amana today without it even becoming at risk. I used a bow to lure/snipe some pesky enemies from afar though, so this might not be entirety accurate, I’ll reply to this comment or make a new one at a later date once I go through more of the game with it.

tried all types of high 60 poise dmg weapons and none can do a good job in dlc area, turns out this badass with stone ring works the best

Can the Rusted Mastodon outside of No Man’s Warf also drop this?

Also acquired from "Rusted" Primal Knight between Heide Tower of Flame bonfire and the Unseen Path to Heide bonfire before No-Man's Wharf. Fragrant branch of yore required.
Took me approximately 100 kills (using backed up save files) of the rusted primal knight. I got 1 Mastodon Halberd, 2 Armor, 2 Gauntlets, 2 Greatshields, 2 Helms, 1 Leggings, and Lots of nothing. I was using the explorer/traveling merchant hat (item discovery + 25), and I started using rusted coins (item discovery + 100) for the last 30 kills. Each kill/run/return took roughly 1.5 minutes from the Unseen Path to Heide bonfire.
