Memory of the Iron King Walkthrough

Access

Prerequisites that need to be met:

From the Foyer Bonfire, take the elevator up and then the next one up again. At the top head left to open the door with the Tower Key. Take another elevator up, and this time turn right. This upcoming area will hold an invasion by NPCs Prowlers, though not all at the same time. There will only be one in the first room along with the Ashen Idol. Destroy them both then claim the Soul of Nadalia, Bride of Ash (fragment) and continue through the doorway.

At the staircase, the remaining 4 Prowlers will spawn. Make quick work of them to proceed up the stairs, and upon doing so, turn right to see a glowing statue. Go around it and light the Smelter Throne Bonfire. Examine the statue to enter the memory....

Post Alonne

The starting room can act as a hub for player summons; players who don't have the dlc can be summoned in to help you complete this. Additionally, if you instead desire the aid of an NPC, the summon signs of Steel-willed Lorrie and Drifter Swordsman Aidel are also located here.

Go through the doorway to enter a large room. This room holds many Alonne Knights and Fire Salamanders. The easiest way to make it out of there alive is to lure the Knights into 1v1 situations while staying out of range of the Salamanders. Once you defeat them all, the first doorway to the left contains a corpse holding 3x Rusted Coin, while the three bodies in the middle of the room hold a total of:

Go to the end of the room and drop down the hole. Continue to the next room to encounter several Alonne Knights, and a Fire Salamander below, shooting fireballs. After defeating them, there are two lootable corpses there that can give you 5x Radiant Lifegem and 3x Repair Powder, in total.

Take the side stairs to go below, kill the Salamander and 3 Knights there and explore the area for a Twinblade +7. Go through the doorway in the end, down the corridor and enter the fog to commence the boss encounter.

BOSS FIGHT: Sir Alonne

After killing the boss, enter the room on the far right and examine the chair for a Smelter Wedge. Examine it again to be transported out of the memory.

what is this mario maker tier level design?? its like little timmy went in the level editor and just put bowsers all over the place

So, it is completely possible to just run straight through from the start of the memory to the fog wall. It took me 4 attempts to beat Alonne and I just booked it and ran the last 3 times. It is difficult, but if you take a certain route, you can avoid all damage. Even if you take damage, which you likely will, as long as you time life gem/flask usage well, you'll make it. Once you reach the fog wall, they stop chasing. But, they will still nail you with arrows from the top of the stairs. If you stand as close to the fog wall as you can and pressed up against the outer wall, the arrows will just barley miss you. I would recommend putting on all the gear you are going to use for the fight before you start to run. It is possible to change gear in front of the fog wall, but between the arrows and them sometimes running up to you anyway, it can be a pain. It's difficult and kind of stressful, but you can make it to Alonne in 30-45 seconds instead of taking 5/10 minutes clearing every enemy every single time. Hope this can help someone!

The gauntlet to get to Sir Alonne is certainly tricky but as one of the ten people on Earth that actually really likes the Iron Keep I'm so used to fighting Alonne Knights that the run is basically second nature to me. I don't know what advice to offer anyone struggling here other than just used weapons with high poise break like Axes, Lances, or Thrusting Swords.

Alonne is a *****, like every other boss on this game except fume knight. But this level is just awful. They couldn't make a difficult boss, so they just make a needlessly stressful area before the dumb Samurai boss. Of all three souls games, this one is by far the easiest with combat and bosses, and by far the worst with ridiculously designed levels. Worst DLC of any DS game, that said base game is good enough to forgive it, probably my favorite DS.

Dark souls 2 is awesome. Don't care what you nub scrubs think. I've played and beat the series and bloodborne and Sekiro. This game still ranks up there as one of the best. The despawning enemies is the only thing I didn't like but champions covenant solves that albeit with a difficulty spike but if your looking for easy then dark souls(or fromsoft games in general) are NOT your games. The memories were a great way to bring specific storytelling aspects and were done well enough. Also only 3 are technically mandatory so if you don't like the other ones just don't do them

As if Iron keep wasnt terribly designed and cancerous enough lets just copy paste the same bullsh1t and throw it to the dlc. How the hell did FromSoft manage to go from Demon Souls and DS1 - two masterpieces to this garbage -.-

Can you kill enemies in the memory until they despawn or no, because I don't want to shoot like 70 poison arrows every time I want to kill all the salamanders.

Some friendly advice from a fellow cursed one with a fair bit of experience here.
Move smart, and pick foes off one by one. My method:
Pull the knight in the middle of the room, take him out close to the door. Snipe lizard 1. Move along the left side of the room until you have a clear shot at the knight behind the right pillar. Pull, and kill. Move back to the middle-left and snipe lizard 2, then pull and kill the knight near the drop. Now, into the left door and backstab the knight hiding there. Drop and backstab the next knight by the pillar. Move to snipe lizard 3, then pull the Captain. Kill him. Now take out the last knight.
Drop down. Pull the closest knight, kill. Snipe one of the two melee knights, pull, and kill. Repeat for the other. Then use poison rounds on the snipers. Boom. Boss door open

The patch to the bosses of this dlc is a ****ing joke, the copy pasted smelter demon have a ton of Gank enemies and you can't even ru***** because one enemy in the room will always cast the miracle who weight you and make you fat roll, and then this bull**** that even have a time limit

                      • Anonymous

You have enough time to pull and kill one by one and when you get to the boss door if you equip warmth you still have enough time to heal your NPC.

                        • Anonymous

Just... why? A gauntlet full of enemies firing at you is just completely unnecessary, especially with both a time limit and an endgame-tier boss at the end. It's a shame alonne is such a fun fight, because if he wasn't I'd just skip this area in ng+

"I thought this is not possible, I almost quit the game, but finally beat the***** out of this basterd!" Rly? Have u tried to beat Fume with 60 AGI?

Navigating to the boss area is kind of hard, but if you managed to do it, you'll be rewarded with one of the best boss in the game

"One cannot reside within memory for long" fromsoft then proceeds to put sixteen hundred enemies over three miles to the boss room.

Any good tips for caster build. Fume knight was bad enough, took like 20 goes at that guy, but sir alonne is a beast. I just can't find much time to cast.

I don't understand what from's obsession with putting tons and tons of enemies before a lot of bosses in this game was all about

                                    • Anonymous

Online I found people claiming it has no time limit but indeed there is a time limit for this memory too. I went afk for a few minutes (don't remember how much) and then kept going but about when you have to kill the salamander under the grate the ashen mist dissipated.

***** this god damn place, ***** it to hell. Whoever designed this absolute abomination of game design deserves to be publicly castrated and beheaded. ***** this place, ***** dark souls 2, and ***** whoever *****ing directed this sack of absolute***** game.
