Pate's Spear is a weapon in Dark Souls 2.
A long spear wielded by Pate.
This appears to be a very ordinary spear, but seems to have accumulated power of the course of countless battles.
It is not always advisable to stand out. Especially if you have something to hide.
Acquired From
- It is dropped by killing Mild Mannered Pate when you encounter him in Forest of Fallen Giants.
- Alternatively, if you leave him alive, get the white soapstone off him and exhaust all dialogue options you are able to summon him for the Last Giant Boss fight, if you do and he survives the fight then you can meet him later at Earthen Peak where he will give you all of his related gear here, including his ring, Ring of Thorns
- Secondary Alternative: if left alive he moves on to Brightstone Cove Tseldora where if you exhaust the dialogue options of Creighton the Wanderer, and he has moved on as well, you will find the two of them fighting each other later on; if you choose to help Pate, he will reward you with Pate's Spear and other various items relating to him here as well, if you didn't receive them in earthen peak. If you choose to help Creighton then you will receive Pate's Spear, Ring of Thorns, and Creighton's armor set.
- Choosing to help Pate and killing Creighton makes his set purchasable from the Melentia.
Hints and Tips:
- Upgrades with Twinkling Titanite.
- The moveset combines elements of both the spear and lance moveset. When one handed, all attacks use the spear moveset with the exception of the R1 running attack, which is replaced by the lance running attack (note that the backstep attack is still that of the normal spear).
- The two handed moveset utilizes even more of the lance moveset. The backstep R1 and the running R1 are both taken from the standard lance moveset. The R2 attack seems to be a combination of both spear and lance, and is different than other spears.
- Is just a hair shorter than the pike and at 40 dexterity this is a versatile weapon with a solid attack rating of ~340 and requires only 16 strength to powerstance. Effective for both PvE and PvP.

The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].
This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".

I power stance a Pate Spear+5 with s Partizan+10 and it is so good. With stone ring and leo ring, it staggers most enemies in 2 attacks. The running attack is also perfect to push enemies off edges or just instakill them. Only drawback is the huge stamina drain from dualling 2 spears. Chloranthy Ring and light armor helps counter that.

You can get both: one from earthen peak with his set as well ( if you summon him for the Last Giant) and one from brightcove Tseldora when he’s fighting Creighton.

It you summon Pate for last giant and he lives He will give you this with his set in earthen peak

This is what I have been using the entire time during my first playthrough. It's simple and it works.

Doesn't matter who you help, you can get all items anyway :)
Dual power stance these things while wearing a robe with baggy sleeves, and you can pretend you're a fantasy creature with four arms. Lol
