Small Shields Strike / Parry

Phoenix Parma is a Small Shield in Dark Souls 2. Small Shields can be used not only to block an enemy but to parry their attack as well. This allows a riposte, a free attack by the player for a high amount of damage. Enemy attacks can be interrupted with a parry (pressing the Strong Attack button for the shield) and requires practice to learn the timing.

 

 

Acquired From:

  • Iron Keep, area just before Smelter fog gate, in a chest in the lava. Need very high fire resistance to survive.

 

Hints and Tips:

  • Try applying as much of the following as possible to increase fire resistance for this short run: cast flash sweat, eat a small orange burr(If you have Flash Sweat, do not eat an orange burr, or use any of the magic barriers, because they do not stack!), wear a flame quartz ring, equip armour with best fire resistance, and most importantly roll through the bull jars scattered throughout the map to wet yourself! Or you could waste a pharros lockstone on the wall by the first archer in the area (above the dull ember) and roll through the pool of water (a couple times for good measure). If you're losing significant health before you get to the chest, make sure to drink some estus and/or eat some life gems (An Elizabeth Mushroom works wonders) to ensure you don't die while opening/taking the item.
  • Infuse it with fire to raise fire damage reduction.

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.
The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].
This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped.
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has.
