Ring of Whispers

ring of whispers

Useful for locating hidden enemies, and perhaps for a few other things, as well."

Ring of Whispers is a Ring in Dark Souls 2 (DKS2). The ring allows the player to hear "growls" from most (but not all) enemies. The ring can be purchased from Sweet Shalquoir in Majula for 5800 souls. Players can equip up to 4 Rings, but equipping two of the same item is not possible. Some rings have upgraded versions, having a maximum of +3. Some can only be found in NG+. Rings can be repaired at a blacksmith, but not upgraded. Upgraded versions must be acquired throughout the game from corpses, chests, bosses, etc.

Ring worn by Rhoy the Explorer. Hear the inner voices of surrounding foes. Useful for locating hidden enemies, and perhaps for a few other things, as well."

DS2 Ring of Whispers Tips and Notes

  • Can not be used in PvP. Controlled testing has proven this rumor to be false; you cannot use voice chat outside of regular co-op. can NOT drop for another player when summoned. it disappears.
  • The growl plays in the Grave of Saints as well. The ring is linked to Rhoy The Explorer (however, the ring does not allow you to speak with the invading NPC).
  • Allows you to talk with Manscorpion Tark, husband of Scorpioness Najka
  • The "growls" are thought to be them saying "I'm hungry." or "Come over here."
  • Allows you to hear a strange growl in the Queens throne room (Not Confirmed, I went in there NG + no growl)?
  • Other notes and tips go here.

Does not work on Mimic Chests as far as I can tell. I put it on and approached a known Mimic to see if it made a noise, but got nothing. Then I figured out the locks thing and felt really dumb for not noticing that before.

Can't believe it doesn't help you locate the roaming souls in the fog area of the Shaded Woods. Other than speaking with Tark, it's utterly useless.

So Im killing Every enemy to their max of 12 times. And Im running everywhere with this thing. I am even killing the (non seeable Hollows that you need a torch to even kinda see.) Anyways So Over at "The Lost Bastille" Bonfire "Straid's Cell" Standing around I hear nothing, nothing going on. BUT once resting at the Bonfire Bam I hear the ring go off telling me there is Monsters around. I killed EVERYTHING there and with this I can see to find out if this is a bug or if there really is a monster I did not get. But once I get up no more noise. Also I notice the sound comes from resting at the Majula bonfire too. Where are these enemys at if there is any

This ring CAN be drop traded by the way. I've done it myself, multiple times, both giving and recieving, on Vanilla (PS3) and SotFS (PS4) so I could do Tark's quest line on characters with heavy soul management.

Wish it was like the guidance miracle in ds3 where it would give you easter egg messages at specific locations. It would be pretty cool and jarring to hear a screech out of nowhere because you left this ring on

5800 souls to trivialize a boss fight, get a fragrant branch of yore, and the warmup gesture? Even though the "detect enemies" schtick is way less practical than it claims (you can't tell where the enemies are or what they are, just that they're somewhere around you), this ring is still worth getting if for Tark's quest line alone.

i am aware that you cannot voice chat with invaders but will a nearby invader trigger the growling sound effect?(just thought it could make pinpointing invaders a little faster, as every advantage helps)

A summoned friend of mine recently dropped it for me to use it and later I gave it back while being a phantom.
