Ruler's Sword is a weapon in Dark Souls 2.
Original:
Greatsword of Vendrick, king of Drangleic.
The strength of this sword is relative to the number of souls possessed by its wielder.
The great king shut himself away, and was soon reduced to a mere shell.
Just what was it that he yearned to protect?
Effect: attack boosted by souls held
Scholar of the First Sin changed to:
Greatsword of Vendrick, King of Drangleic.
The strength of this sword is relative to the number of souls possessed by its wielder.
One fragment of Dark, having taken human shape, became obsessed with the King's soul.
Impelled by its own cravings, it sought souls, and strove to make the strength of the Giants its own.
Effect: attack boosted by souls held.
Acquired From
- Trade with Weaponsmith Ornifex the Soul of the King.
Hints and Tips:
- Upgrades with Petrified Dragon Bone to +5
- At the cap of 1 million souls the total bonus damage of this weapon is +118 (without other bonuses or scaling).
- Note: If the wielder has less than 300 thousand souls in total, the sword will receive a damage penalty, which will slowly decrease the more souls you gain.
- Has the same move set as the Mirrah Greatsword

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.
The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].
This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped.
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has.

this weapon has nothing to do with soul memory dear reader, I have no idea why the comments below keep mistaking it for it

I've got this weapon at 620 AR upgraded with Flynn's and 1m souls. For as fast as this weapon is that's a good AR that being said I'm only doing PvP I think it wouldn't be worth it in PvE

Well obviously it's meant for higher NG cycles. I would still go with curved nil greatsword because that thing is a beast.
- Anonymous
Does the attack buff still work if I put this in left hand, and then two-hand the right-hand weapon? I ask since shields with passives like Watchdragon Parma's item-discovery-up do work that way.
- Anonymous
I wouldn’t even run around with 1m souls at hand. A dual / power-stanced mundane broken straight sword can wreck bosses with 0 souls.

The single time in the entire game where SM would actually be useful...it isn't used lmao

This thing is terrible. if you're smart, you don;t run around with a ton of souls. It also makes it completely worthless for bosses, since you always want to spend your souls before you attempt a boss. Awful idea. It doesn't even have insane damage or scaling to make up for it.

This weapon actually does more damage than the most greatswords if you use the correct build.

This weapon is one of my favorite in this game for PvP arena. This in one hand and the frost rapier in the other...so good, especially if you buff this weapon with flame arc

Let me tell you that; It requires faith and intelligence for no reason, is not that large of a sword, base damage is awful, has no scaling, even at its top (1Mil souls + fully upgraded) it does nearly same damage with some of your greatswords. Even though it looks like a PVE weapon I would only recomend using this at arena.

You should only use this weapon in ng + 3 or higher to benefit from it's unique trait. Unless you re farming the giant lord or something like that to get crazy amounts of souls all the time.
- Anonymous
if youve got the paticnce and skill
get to NG+ 9 and powerstance this with the curved nil
you should have pleanty of souls and pleantly of power

Godlike in the arena because you can have 1 mil souls with no matchmaking penalty and never have to worry about losing them

I know I'm like 4 years too late to weigh in on this, but with 1 mil souls this is just a better mirrah greatsword. Granted carrying around 1 mil souls is pretty dumb, but still it's effectively just a better mirrah greatsword if you do it right. People keep saying its s**t, but it's not. It's just inconvenient and not viable for SM based (invader) builds for obvious reasons. But if you pair it with a ring of life/soul proctection its pretty solid if you like moveset. It's also got some of the highest AR among greatswords.

First playthrough. I made this sword because I thought it was good; now I learn that it's*****. I don't care. I'm gonna fight Nashandra with it, regardless of the damage penalty. I just feel a bit betrayed by how much damage Vendrick was doing to me when I fought him...

Imagine if it scaled with your soul memory. It'd be amazing.

in a game with soul memory this must be the worst weapon imaginable.
Right, so King Vendrick hired Llewellyn, a Mirrah blacksmith, could he be the creator of the Ruler's Sword? I mean, it shares the same movesett and is otherwise not too far off the Mirrah Greatsword.
The Mirrah Greatsword description reads; "Greatsword issued to the proud knights of Mirrah's official order. This one was wielded by Lucatiel.
This greatsword demands advanced skill in a rare and unique sword technique." possibly meaning that if Vendrick wielded this blade (Ruler's Sword) properly, he would fight in the style of the Mirrah knights? That also goes to back up the idea that Llewellyn made the sword. And its no secret that Vendrick was involved with Mirrah (see Nimble Shadows) so what would really stop him from learning the Mirrah way of the sword? Could this also be the reason only Vendrick could hire Llewellyn, as he was desperate enough to hire him at whatever the cost? Needing a blade worthy of his name?
This is pure speculations though, and it may just be completely wrong.

Does this mean your soul level or the amount of souls that you currently have collected?

The article says the cap for the max amount of damage is at 1 million but then talks about what the damage is at 10 million. What's the actual cap?
- Anonymous
so basically the sword is a piece of *****...greatthere I was thinking I was gonna be going around one shotting stuff like King Ven-*****head...
