Scythe is a weapon in Dark Souls 2
"A spear that was embedded in a stone statue.
According to an old local legend, a great spear was used to defeat Santier, the walking statue. Perhaps this is that very spear.
But it will be difficult to utilize such a thing in the manner of a spear. Your only choice is to swing it around, and smite foes about the head."
Acquired From
- Treasure at Doors of Pharros: Gyrm's Respite bonfire. The doorway is in the middle of the right-hand wall when entering the main area from the Gyrm's Respite bonfire room. Be wary of the primal knight behind the door. Even if you only open the bottom door, He can still hit you.
- There are three Lockstone slots - one on each side of the doorway, and one under the water directly in front of the door. If a lockstone is used on the middle slot under the water, the door can be rolled through without using all three slots.
Hints and Tips:
- Upgraded with Twinkling Titanite.
- You can deplete its durability to break the embedded head and turn this weapon into an effective, quick spear. The weapon will stay this way from now on, it will be impossible to "repair" and it will not lose its durability further, effectively making it unbreakable. However, if you die or rest at a bonfire prior to breaking the spear completely, its durability will be restored to full.
- Once the durability is depleted, this is the one and only weapon with technically INFINITE DURABILITY, extremely useful on a no death, no bonfire playthrough.
- Mundane is no longer viable as the weapon loses almost all damage making raw the best infusion as it's only slightly outcsaled by enchanted at 50 INT and benefits more strongly from weapon buffs.
- If you are using the spear in PVP -or the person against you is- be wary that it is extremely easy to parry the attacks... that's why you should try to be unpredictable when using this weapon in PVP
- This weapon was extremely popular in PVP due to its power and large hitbox that can catch players off-guard. As of Calibration 1.06, this weapon has had its attack power reduced especially on mundane infuse (reduce base damage to 30), to balance it out, making it less viable against other players and bosses.
- Similar to Yorgh's Spear, they both combining both movesets from multiple weapon classes.
- It is possible to powerstance this weapon, but the moveset becomes very bland.
- If you're attempting to break the statue head by playing through areas of the game, you can select the "leave" option in the inventory to leave it beside the bonfire you want to rest at. You can then rest as normal, repairing your gear and replenishing your estus. When you then pick the spear up again, it will not have been repaired.
Ways to break the stone head:
- Hitting walls, for example the Bright Cove Tseldora tent interior.
- Hitting dead enemies (stacking up corpses and using 2h strong attack is highly recommended). On the first bonfire of FoFG, lure about 4 enemies and try to kill them in a way that all fall in the same location. Then, hit the bodies with 2H strong attack. This will break the stone head in less than one minute.
- Hitting non-aggressive enemies (ie. Rat Covenant Primal Knights).
- Repeatedly hitting Dyna and Tillo is a good way to break the spear (using the 2h strong attack), as they are invulnerable.
The best way is to be part of The Rat Covenant (wear ring and they will become non-hostile then repeatedly hit the Mastadons in Door of Pharros with the 1hd strong attack it will break in a couple of minutes.
- Another excellent way is hitting walls but while in the pool of acid found in Aldia's Keep, next to the secret bonfire. Make sure you kill the dogs and unequip all other gear first. Tested in Vanilla and SotFS and this method does not work
Moveset:
- After breaking the head, the moveset of this weapon will include spear, halberd, curved sword, and twinblade attacks, giving it one of the most diverse movesets in the game. Due to this, the Santiers Spear is highly common in PVP combat
- 1 handed:
- first and second light attack - spear
- first and second strong attack - halberd
- roll light attack - twinblade
- backstep/run light attack - curved sword
- 2 handed:
- first and second light attack - twinblade
- first strong attack - twinblade
- second strong attack - halberd
- light attack to strong attack - twinblade
- roll light attack - twinblade
- backstep/run light attack - halberd
- 1 handed:

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.
The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].
This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped.
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has.

Solid weapon for no death/bonfire - made it a lot easier not worrying about repair. Has no scaling so go raw infusion 20str / 22dex and put the rest in health and ADP. Mission accomplished took me 9 hours 30 minutes

On my first playthrough this weapon very quickly became one of my favorite weapons in all of gaming, the moveset is absurd but amazing, durability isn't an issue with it and it's just plain fun to use. The thing that surprised me the most was how practical the 1-handed light attacks were, they complement the crowd control of the two-handed attacks with a reaching poke to keep distance. Easily the best polearm in any Dark Souls game IMO.
The only real changes that I'd make to it would be improve the Enchanted scaling (it actually takes 80+ Intelligence to surpass Raw) and turn the parry/block button when two-handed into a special attack of some kind, it feels like a waste having two block buttons on a weapon with such a unique moveset.

And they say durability is a problem in Dark Souls 2 funniest sheet ever xD

so how strong would it be if i were to add flynn's ring, rob+1, sacred oath and lightning blade to it? don't wanna start a new build to test this out.

I whacked a firebomb back at a thrower with the spear somehow, what?
- Anonymous
By the way when it becomes a spear it does not allow you to do the shield up defensive spear attack.

The "B" scaling on an elemental infused Santier's Spear gives only a max bonus of 37 (base stats, no rings, 99 intelligence). In case you were weighing running a caster+weapon buff on the santiers spear - its not worth it
- Anonymous
Is it still a Halberd when broken? Or does it convert into the Spear class?
- Anonymous
I found a good method to break it. In the gutter where the giant "Gas emitting Bug" that heals poison is. When you enter the cave and are facing the bug, walk to your right, to the rear of the bug. 1h R2 or 2h R1 against the wall. It can take 10 points of durability per swing. It can also randomly do only 1 point of durability. Its kinda weird sometimes.
- Anonymous
You can use this weapon (broken ofc) to do really good damage with decently low str/dex. Just meet the bare minimum because it has no scaling and you can level up other stats.
- Anonymous
The upper gutter ticks can be kited to decay the weapon when their mist is out.

I broke it, maxed it, and buffed it. But my Drake Wing Sword is still better not buffed. What am I doing wrong?
Raw Santier's Spear + Sacres Oath + Ring of Blades +2 + Resina = GG

Just tested acid pools, Doors of Pharros Mastadon and Dyna and Tilo. The only option that still works (in SOTFS PS4 at least) is Dyna and Tilo. All other methods only reduce durability by 1 point every other hit or so. So go smash them birds!
- Anonymous
FYI I spent almost 45 min in the acid pool in Aldia's Keep. Hitting the iron door is somehow faster since it looks like the attack go through the door and hit the pillar beside it twice a swing

The best way to break the stone head: Repeatedly hitting Dyna and Tillo.”
