*When infused: 175 physical dmg/175 elemental dmg and C scaling with chosen element.
Santier's Spear is a weapon in Dark Souls 2.
"A spear that was embedded in a stone statue.
According to an old local legend, a great spear was used to defeat Santier, the walking statue. Perhaps this is that very spear.
But it will be difficult to utilize such a thing in the manner of a spear. Your only choice is to swing it around, and smite foes about the head."
Acquired From
- Treasure at Doors of Pharros: Gyrm's Respite bonfire. The doorway is in the middle of the right-hand wall when entering the main area from the Gyrm's Respite bonfire room. Be wary of the primal knight behind the door. Even if you only open the bottom door, He can still hit you.
- There are three Lockstone slots - one on each side of the doorway, and one under the water directly in front of the door. If a lockstone is used on the middle slot under the water, the door can be rolled through without using all three slots.
Hints and Tips:
- Upgraded with Twinkling Titanite.
- You can deplete its durability to break the embedded head and turn this weapon into an effective, quick spear. The weapon will stay this way from now on, it will be impossible to "repair" and it will not lose its durability further, effectively making it unbreakable. However, if you die or rest at a bonfire prior to breaking the spear completely, its durability will be restored to full.
- Once the durability is depleted, this is the one and only weapon with technically INFINITE DURABILITY, extremely useful on a no death, no bonfire playthrough.
- Mundane is no longer viable as the weapon loses almost all damage making raw one of the best infusions, while Enchanted is the best option, as it'll outscale Raw once reached 50int.
- If you are using the spear in PVP -or the person against you is- be wary that it is extremely easy to parry the attacks... that's why you should try to be unpredictable when using this weapon in PVP
- This weapon was extremely popular in PVP due to its power and large hitbox that can catch players off-guard. As of Calibration 1.06, this weapon has had its attack power reduced especially on mundane infuse (reduce base damage to 30), to balance it out, making it less viable against other players and bosses.
- Highly recommended to wield it with Yorgh's Spear together, combining both movesets together will make the movesets even more variable and unpredictable, such as Santier rolling R1 + Yorgh R2 combo.
- It is possible to powerstance this weapon, but the moveset becomes very bland.
- If you're attempting to break the statue head by playing through areas of the game, you can select the "leave" option in the inventory to leave it beside the bonfire you want to rest at. You can then rest as normal, repairing your gear and replenishing your estus. When you then pick the spear up again, it will not have been repaired.
Ways to break the stone head:
- Hitting walls, for example the Bright Cove Tseldora tent interior.
- Note that acid does not directly affect the weapon, and cannot be broken via acid surge or pools of acid. It must be broken by hitting either enemies or walls.
- Hitting dead enemies (stacking up corpses and using 2h strong attack is highly recommended). On the first bonfire of FoFG, lure about 4 enemies and try to kill them in a way that all fall in the same location. Then, hit the bodies with 2H strong attack. This will break the stone head in less than one minute.
- Hitting non-aggressive enemies (ie. Rat Covenant Primal Knights).
- Repeatedly hitting Dyna and Tillo is a good way to break the spear (using the 2h strong attack), as they are invulnerable.
The best way is to be part of The Rat Covenant (wear ring and they will become non-hostile then repeatedly hit the Mastadons in Door of Pharros with the 1hd strong attack it will break in a couple of minutes.
- Another excellent way is hitting walls but while in the pool of acid found in Aldia's Keep, next to the secret bonfire. Make sure you kill the dogs and unequip all other gear first.
SOTFS- The only viable method that doesn't take hours is hitting the crows nest. Start with your back to the ladder and perform as many 2H R2 attacks as you can, back up and repeat. Should take 1-3 minutes depending on your stamina.
Moveset:
- After breaking the head, the moveset of this weapon will include spear, halberd, curved sword, and twinblade attacks, giving it one of the most diverse movesets in the game. Due to this, the Santiers Spear is highly common in PVP combat
- 1 handed:
- first and second light attack - spear
- first and second strong attack - halberd
- roll light attack - twinblade
- backstep/run light attack - curved sword
- 2 handed:
- first and second light attack - twinblade
- first strong attack - twinblade
- light attack to strong attack - twinblade
- strong attack to strong attack - halberd
- roll light attack - twinblade
- backstep/run light attack - halberd
- 1 handed:

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.
The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].
This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped.
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has.

If you go to the tent near Lenigrast in Majula and go to the right-side ruined wall. Nestle yourself between the tent post and the boulder by the cliff. Use the 2H Heavy and it'll remove around 1.75 durability per swing. Make sure it hits the tent post, tent canopy, boulder, and wall. At most angles, it will not stop your swing.

If you're trying to break it, by far the best way is going to Dyna and Tillo's Nest and using the 2h R2. I know that it's a very well known method, but I wanted to vouch that, yes, if you do it this way, it'll take 2 minutes or less.

2h "kill anything" combo, if you can get all the hits to land: R1 --> R2 --> R2
Melts everything, even most bosses, but it's very stamina-costly, so use cautiously.

Enchanted no longers outscale Raw Infusion, tested with a character with 80 INT: 350 + 34. Raw infusion gives 385 dmg.

most effective way is to two hand heavy attack on the crows nest in things betwixt. took 15 durability per attack on average.
this might be a bit late but was playing ds2 black armor edition earlier 'n managed to break the spear, the strange thing is that the spear was supposed to gain its durability back if i either died/rested which didnt really happen, saved 'n quite yet nothing
i mean even the area where u find it is actually buged cus the enemies wont move a finger, guess this happened after me ALT+F4'ing the game the moment i was being invaded by an npc
just wondering if someone else had this "joyful" bug

Started this game one year ago. Heard much about Santiers Spear and came to this wiki to look why. I never new this weapon has a secret alternate form. I sold my spare Spear because I thought I don't need it but hey, now I have a reason to start NG+5. It's broken form is really interesting and the two handed Twinblade like Moveset was a neat surprise.

tremendous for a defensive-focused build, or even a wizard! a raw Santier's + 5 does 385 damage, hits lightning-fast, and requires just ten strength and 22 dex to two-hand. even one-handed with inadequate stats, it's a reasonable poking weapon. low-level runs or just folks who want a devastating tool for low stat investment need look no further.
Mundane being good is definitely no longer the case--with 26 in all stats, my 2h Santier's is only pulling 240, vs 385 on Raw. save yourself the grief and just rawdog it, and you, too, can be a nightmare to anyone who doesn't parry in PvP, and shut down Fume with minimal difficulty, all while swaddled in a cloak of tons of health, stamina and carry weight that you didn't need to waste on offensive stat levels.

So for some reason I maxed the spear out before breaking it. I've always upgraded it after breaking it. But now it's taking forever to break and I'm spamming r2's on a mastodon warrior. No, I'm not wearing the bracing knuckle ring, and I've spent about ten minutes only for it to drop from 500 to 498 durability. Didn't change after I relaunched. Did I screw myself over by upgrading it before breaking it?

2021 and Dyna and Tilo's nest is still the fastest way to break it

Mundane is no longer viable as the weapon loses almost all damage making raw one of the best infusions, while Enchanted is the best option, as it'll outscale Raw once reached 50int.
Wrong!!!!

Breaking most effective if you hit it on the well in Bright Cove Tseldora

Is this weapon still strong for PvE? I've heard it got nerfed pretty hard.
- Anonymous
Dyna and Tilo's nest is still the fastest and easiest way to break it in 2020. 30 seconds run from the Things Betwixt bonfire and then about 3-4 minutes of 2HR2 hitting and you're done.

Sorry, Enchanted Santier's Spear does not overpower the Raw Santier's Spear, this is the proof:

"Mundane is no longer viable as the weapon loses almost all damage making raw one of the best infusions, while Enchanted is the best option, as it'll outscale Raw once reached 50int."
The information about the enchanted santier's spear is wrong. I used soul vessel to check it by putting the intelligence point to 99 and the enchanted just boots the santier's spear by ONLY 37 damage.

Tried the weapon for the first time it's crazy fast and staggers anything I definitely recommend it with Ring of blades & Flynn ring for maximum damage, it also requires low stats only 10 STR and 22 dex since it has no scaling no need to lvl up those stats further + infinite durability

acid pools in aldia manor or the one in drangleic castle are easily the fastest ways to break just remove all other weapons, armors and rings.
- Anonymous
Can confirm as of November 2019, hitting Dyna & Tilo's nest is the quickest way to break it.

The two handed roll light attack is a halberd move. Unless all halberds have a twinblade roll attack.
- Anonymous
Not sure if anyone else knows, but hitting Sweet Shalquoir breaks the head easily since she's invincible. If she's sitting in the chair is the best position.
- Anonymous
Havent seen this on here. If you attack the crows nest with the one handed strong attack youll break it in under 2 minutes. Make sure the tip lands in the nest.
- Anonymous
Just wanted to address something. In the SOTFS version, you just have to be in the rat covenant, not wear the ring for the enemies to become passive
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Dunno, if somebody posted that before
If you want to wear down durability quickly -> use a fog gate with narrow walls(Ordeals End bonfire or even better Things Betwixed) .. less then 10 min. your done..

Unbroken Spear seems to reduce stamina recharge when 2handed

I'd recommend wearing the engraved gauntlets while trying to break this

The best way ive found to break it is to leave one corrosive bug alive in shulva, take off all your armour and rings, and then wait for it to begin emitting a corrosive cloud, then hug the bug. its the only cloud in the game ive found to break weapons, and its incredibly helpful for santiers spear
- Anonymous
I always break it by hitting the fogdoor to the Royal Rat Authority.. fastest degradation i've found so far
- Anonymous
Confirmed, hitting the bird's nest in betwixt will degrade it faster. Ten pts per hit.
- Anonymous
Now Santier's +5 have C Elemental scaling, and D on Enchanted.

I use the red egg cluster of the Corrosive Egg Crawlers in Shulva - Sanctum City to break the stone, it take less than 10 minutes.
Just hit the egg cluster, use aged feather to respawn it, rinse and repeat

have a buddy of mine who attacks the cat in majula, she never dies and never becomes hostile. though, from what i hear, this takes FOREVER
- Anonymous
In SotFS if you hit a bonfire that Aldia has popped out of you can lower durability quick. Direct head hits with the overhead chop reduce 10 durability per hit.
- Anonymous
i did try the bird nest at things betwixted and within minutes the spear was broken
A good place is the bonfite room after ruin sentinels, as you walk in just after the exploding hollow there is a pile of bags, if you r2 them you loose 1 to 2 dura each hit.

Anyone still playing this game?
I'm looking for people on Xbox One:
G/T thmadhatter83
In the Xbone SotFS version, I tried most of the methods mentioned here, and some did nothing or minimal towards breaking the head off. I did not try the bird nest method, so I cannot speak to that, but the attacking of the stone in Majula where you enter the Champions Covenants worked very well. I am looking for coop or people to give away or trade items with. I am at max tier soul level, so you will need to be around 9 to 12 million for us to hook up. Gamertag Fester710. Cheers!

How to do I get the spear to do an extra 300 damage with mundane

Two hand r2 on the birds in things betwixt itll be broken in a minute.
Santier's spear durability not reducing when hitting deadbodies on sofs. Can someone else check if this is only on my com or an update
