Shadow Dagger is a weapon in Dark Souls 2.
Dagger used by those who lurk in the shadows. Formed by bending a sword into the shape of a dagger.
In Mirrah, the land of knights, there exists an order of shadow knights who carry out assassinations in the cover of darkness.
Those who fled even the order of shadow knights had rejected all forms of honor, and resorted to unseemly mercenary work.
Acquired From
- Dropped from the Suspicious Shadows enemy who only appear in No-Man's Wharf, in the Flexile Sentry arena, in NG+ and beyond.
- To farm them, kill them during the boss fight but do not kill the boss. Let the boss kill you or warp back to the bonfire to try again. (They respawn indefinitely if you save/quit)
Scholar of the First Sin:
- Dropped from any Suspicious Shadow you encounter (No-Man's Wharf, Lost Bastille, and etc.) through the game.
- To easily farm this dagger (Alongside Malformed Claw and Shadow Set), simply join the Company Of Champions to keep enemies from de-spawning, go to The Upper Earthen Peak bonfire then head downstairs. A Suspicious Shadow jumps down (There's a Desert Sorceress there too). You can equip Watchdragon Parma, Jester's Cap, Covetous Gold Serpent Ring and use Rusted Coin to raise item discovery.
Hints and Tips:
- As a strength based dagger, this weapon is excellent as a backup weapon for strength based characters, as it weighs very little and can be used to punish backstab fishers. It's also better at backstabbing in general, since the initiating animation for backstabbing is much quicker.
- A backstab / riposte dedicated dagger due to its high critical modifier and backstab speed, extremely useful on wiping out Lion Clan Warriors, who're extremely vulnerable to backstabbing.

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.
The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].
This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped.
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has.

The shape of the tip implies it was literally just a sword cut diagonally to be shorter. It isn't even sharpened or thinned down at the end, it's just there for something to stab with. Weird choice of weapon for expert mage-assassins

is it just me or does this thing do almost nothing for backstabs on other players?

in SOTFS there is a very easy way to farm the set as well as the weapons. after you ring the bell to summon the ship that holds the sentery there is a row of houses where you drop down with two virgarin soliders stay. in the shadows of this place there are two shadow assassins. on bonfire intensity two i was able to farm (this took me about 30 minutes) the entire armor set as well as the weapons by using the mimic head, coventus ring and prisoner tatters. if you break down the bridge then you can run past the enemies and up to where the assassins are located making it a fast and easy trip.
It really is a shame that they nerfed critical attacks. It feels so anticlimactic when you get a backstab with a dagger and end up taking off one fifth of their health.
