Straight Swords in Dark Souls II are a type of Weapon that provides balance and offers a variety of attacks such as thrusts and slashes. Some Straight Swords cannot thrust, but they make up for it by having high damage output. Straight Swords are one of the most versatile weapon types in Dark Souls 2, they are perfect for infusions, maximizing the weapon's offensive capabilities. Straight Swords also save up your stamina, but the hits can be less effective. With it's slashing move, you can hit multiple enemies at the same time as long as they're close enough. When you're trying to keep your distance, you can always rely on its thrust move, but do note that not all Straght Swords have a thrusting move. Straight Swords work well when paired with a Shield, which allows you to quickly follow up with an attack after blocking. Straight Swords are also compatible with nearly all types of builds, making them extremely versatile. This page covers a list of all Straight Swords in Dark Souls 2.

I wish the Moonlight longsword reskin they made for the original ds2 was added somewhere in SOTFS

If you just want a quality straight sword, the sun sword is the best in terms of pure scaling.
I found that the Fire Longsword is missing from this list. Second bonfire of Forest of Fallen Giants, Below the Scaffolding and in a burning tunnel is a fire lizard, if you run and open a door to get in a room there will be a chest that has the Fire Longsword.

You can use these weapons on the offhand with a larger slower weapon in the mainhand to speed up many attacks. Let's say you were using a great club mh and longsword oh, if you were to press L1 and then R2 you'll notice that the R2 comes out very fast compared to the usual windup the attack has.

a shame there aren't that many good looking SS, all the love got to the weeb*****

Full slashing movesets are what really hinders most of this weapon class. Bad design choice, their AR/counter dmg isn't high enough to break the game if they got stab attacks anyway

From experience, the three best straight swords are the Red Rust for pure damage on a high strength build, The Fume for range on pure dex or dark builds, or the drake keepers on quality or power stance builds for its above average in every aspect flexibility.

Does anybody know what is the best overall straight sword for strenght build?
What is the best for a jack-of-all-trades build?
