Sun Sword is a weapon in Dark Souls 2.
A well-forged long sword.
Of unknown origin, and exhibiting no special power, but sturdily crafted.
Perhaps it does not live up to its name, but nevertheless, merely wielding this sword seems to cause warmth to well up within one's bosom.
Acquired From
- Reward for reaching Rank 2 of Heirs of the Sun covenant. (Offer 20 Sunlight Medals)
Hints and Tips:
- Upgraded with regular Titanite to +10.
- Like the Fume Sword, it has a full suite of thrusting attacks with the exception of the 2 handed R2, which is a slashing attack (roll attacks are still thrusting, however).
- You can only acquire one Sun Sword per character as covenant progress does not reset with NG+ and beyond, unless another player drops their Sun Sword in your world.
- When upgraded to +10 this weapon does 350 physical damage with 40 strength and 40 dexterity. 175 base + 210 with scaling.
- The Sun Sword suffers greatly in parameter bonuses after infusion. For example: despite the lightning sun sword having a scaling rating of B and C on strength and dexterity, its physical scaling is actually worse than Lightning Heide Knight Sword's C and D (when both weapons at +10 are equipped at the same time, the Sun Sword offers less bonus physical damage than the heide sword). It is therefore discouraged to infuse this weapon, even mundane.
- One-handed strong attack does a thrusting-type attack unlike most other straight swords.
- Not to be confused with the miracle Sunlight Blade.
- Trivia: It's based on Sunlight Straight Sword from Dark Souls, which was wielded by Solaire of Astora, its one handed strong attack is also a thrusting move.
- The game incorrectly lists attack type as only Slash when it clearly has both Slash and Thrust attacks.

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.
The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].
This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped.
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has.

Good luck getting this on PC in 2022. It's an item of myth and rumour at this point.

It may not wield any power or look like a weapon to take on gods. But to get it you lend a hand for those in need there for the value of this weapon has the highest for me.

I honestly never used a Straight Sword in DS2 because I prefer the Twinblades, Lances and Greatswords. But I recently farmed the medals on my new save because I'm a 100% guy. Also can't Play online and the falconers were not very cooperative. But I have to say this sword is definitely worth it! It's Stats are awesome and the damage is really good for a weapon this fast. Moveset is also very nice. Although this sword might not look as asthetically pleasing as others, that actually is something I like. This sword just looks classic all over. Someone could forge this weapon in real life and I wouldn't be able to tell If it's a real medieval sword. Aside from knowing it through These games of course.

This thing’s stats are alright but I don’t know where people get off talking about the aesthetics. Easily one of the ugliest weapons in the game.

This is the best iteration of the sun sword in the series. Straight up the best quality weapon in its class, not slower than normal swords like in ds1, and not reduced to a faith gimmick buff like in ds3

Tbh it's worth making a Quality build just for this and FUGS.

At 40/40 Str/Dex (uninfused) it deals 175 + 175, 175 + 225 with RoB +2 etc.
Not gonna lie, this thing is slightly overused in the arena, I mean, there are better fallback weapons, longsword has better R2's, Estoc has better range, and Chaos Blade is god mode

Sooo for anyone curious:
with 15 strength, 16 dexterity, Ring of Blades+1 and Flynn's Ring, Sun Sword+6 actually has an AR of ~308. Which is really not bad. (With 15/13 str/dex it's probably like 300 AR, started with a swordsman at 16 dex so idk)
I'm guessing that after fully upgrading it I'll be rocking like ~340 AR with nearly minimum stats.
The reason I'm doing that is because I'm playing a faith heavy hexer and need a physical weapon for DLC. So far, even with just the +6 sun sword, I'm doing significantly more damage than my dark and lightning shortswords. A lot of that is due to Flynn's and Blade rings scaling better to pure physical.
Just finished Shulva at SL105 with above setup and it wasn't too bad at all. I'd recommend it to low weight faith characters with low str/dex as well as ones who have high str/dex.
There are other weapons you can do this with, but the Sun Sword moveset and aesthetics are really solid. It weighs 3 units so you can throw on a bow, shield, and 2 catalysts without getting too heavy. Even at 15 str and 16 dex, the Sun Sword+6 scaling is +87.
That said, Flynn's ring is sort of essential to make it work. It adds 50 AR. Can be found about halfway through Shulva.

Hey, the numbers are wrong on the hints and tips part. 175 + 210 don't amount to 350, i've checked in game and it´s 175 + 175 at 40/40
- Anonymous
Looks like you need both STR and DEX to use this properly, right? Like, 50 str with 13 dex would be terrible, right?
I wouldn't ask but the scaling letters are notoriously misleading in these games. Just wondering if I can make this work on a character I'm running.

If someone says “praise the sun” again I’m going to go ****ing postal

This weapon is great the scaling is awesome and the moveset is sweet ! for those willing to use this sword i reccomend a build with atleast 130 in stamina the bigger the stamina the better for this weapon, the R1/RB attack takes little of your stamina and that's the biggest strenght of this weapon with 130 of stamina you can hit an enemy for 5 times without depleting your stamina each fast attack deals about 250 of damage 5×250 = 1250.

Anyone willing to trade it? I want to dual-wield it. I’m SlimeC0RE on Xbox One, SotFS, my character’s name is Gwendoline, and I’m soul tier 24 or 25. Oh, and by the way, the Ruin Sentinels are ripe for some medal farming, took me three days to get all thirty, and I had college and sleep. I was tier 15 and didn’t use the ring.

Silly idea, has anyone ever tested if they boost with multiple wielders? Host+summon+summon = bonus?
