Thorned Greatsword is a weapon in Dark Souls 2.
A greatsword forged from the soul of the Looking Glass Knight.
Strong attack unleashes its latent power.
Fearing something wicked, the King fled the castle and never returned.
But his warrior, forever true to his command, stands ready to expunge those who would challenge him.
Effect: special attack (strong attack)
Acquired From:
- Trading Looking Glass Knight Soul and 3000 souls to Weaponsmith Ornifex.
Hints and Tips:
- Reinforced with Petrified Dragon Bone to +5.
- The strong attack can be used one-handed or two-handed and produces an orange lightning bolt that is fired from the blade consuming 10 durability (5 with Bracing Knuckle Ring
- Lowers durability loss for weapons by 20%, 35% (+1), 50% (+2)
- Lowers durability loss for armor and rings by 20%, 25% (+1), 45% (+2)
- Durability: 110, 85 (+1), 70 (+2)
- Weight: 0.5, 0.8 (+1), 1.0 (+2)
- Obtained from Lost Bastille, Chancellor Wellager(+1), Undead Crypt(+2).
- The player smashes the weapon on the ground while one-handing, but thrusts the sword forward when two-handing.
- The moveset is almost identical to Black Knight Greatsword.
- Remember that this strong attack is both a melee attack and a projectile. Hitting someone with the blade of this strong attack deals way more damage than just hitting the projectile part.
- Use a lightning buff (Sunlight Blade or Gold Pine Resin) on this weapon to make it much harder for enemies to predict your strong attack in PvP while increasing your damage.
- While not as strong as something like the Throne Defender's Greatsword, this weapon's ranged lightning bolt attacks will often surprise most people, and catch them off guard.
- The strong attack can be animation cancelled to great effect and will throw off most opponents.

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.
The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].
This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.

Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit

One of the best fth weapons in the game if your goal is some neat Raiden cosplay

Str 20 Dex 20 Fth 40
Should I use? Seems interesting with a projectile attack, but the base damage is not high and I need to farm petrified stones for upgrading.

A lightning Thorned greatsword with 60 faith and base str+dex, buffed with lightning blade, deals 1000+ dmg with the first weapon art and if you combo the second one you will deal around 2000 dmg. Ring of blades2 equipped but not lightning cluch ring. Hope this helped.

Wtf is with those "raiden cosplay" comments? Raiden used a staff, not a greatsword. Go use dragonslayer's spear instead.

What a nice looking sword. I'm sure no one will ever use it for Raiden cosplay

I don't think they mention it, but does the projectile scale solely off the lightning damage the weapon does and that's why the projectile hits for less? The moonlight greatsword works the exact same way, and it's mentioned on it's page. Not here though.

I got mixed feelings about this weapon. I know it is strong; a proper faith build will make this weapon destroy anything in its path. Nevertheless, great swords in DS2 SotFS are not my cuppa.

Somehow I've never actually used this sword with any of my characters. I'm not really sure why, because looking at it now I kinda like it. Might try to make a Quality/Faith build for my next character and try it out. (Unfortunately I'm a bit burned out on Dark Souls 2 now after playing through the game twice in a row, so it will probably have to wait.)
