Small Shields | Strike / Parry | ||
Enchantable: Yes/No |
No Special |
Watcher's Shield is a Small Shield in Dark Souls 2. Small Shields can be used not only to block an enemy but to parry their attack as well. This allows a riposte, a free attack by the player for a high amount of damage. Enemy attacks can be interrupted with a parry (pressing the Strong Attack button for the shield) and requires practice to learn the timing.
Small shield used by the Throne Watcher. Made from an old sacred chime.
The Watcher has stood by the throne for ages.
Will his wait be fulfilled?
Acquired From:
- Trading the Throne Watcher Soul to Weaponsmith Ornifex.
Hints and Tips:
- Upgraded with Petrified Dragon Bone to +5.
- Highest physical damage reduction of all small shields.
- Infusing with Boltstone grants 100% lightning damage reduction.
- Infusing with Darknight Stone allows Dark Watcher's Shield +5 to have nearly three damage immunities, with a large 93.6% physical reduction, 89.2% lightning defense, and 98.5% dark defense before scaling bonuses are added.
- The shield makes a bell-like noise when it is hit.
- An orange particle effect is also produced when the shield is hit (This is a corrosive effect on weapons that hit the shield and can break hostile melee weapons faster, but doesn't effect ranged weapons which includes catalysts, bows, crossbows, and greatbows).

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.
The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].
This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped.
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has.

How in the **** a small shield has 95% phys damage and 80 Dark damage resist wtf. The only thing this **** doesn't have is fashion

People may worry losing the shield's physical reduction when infused. But fret not, uninfused it has 95% reduction, while infused, it only went down roughly 2% to 93%. Ofcourse any reduction means extra damage, but with either dark or lightning infused, one can turn this into a possible generic blocking shield.
Unfortunately, one can only get this shield in almost an end-game manner.
The LLLWRLLRWWLL shield (Llewellyn lol) is definitely a substitute
It is absolutely hilarious to block a handful of attacks from invaders and break their weapons. More often then not, they have no backup plan and become a non-issue after that.

Either I'm worse at parrying than I thought or you can't parry using a shield in the right hand, I tried it with this and it never worked.

Going for a build that uses this, the Sacred Chime hammer, the dragon chime and the Bell Helm... I call it "Tinkerbell"
