Dark Souls 2 Summon Range Calculator - This calculator is current to Patch 1.06 - Reg 1.08. Summon and PvP range in Dark Souls 2 is calculated by soul memory.

Summon Range Calculator

Finding Online Players
  • Instructions: Insert your Soul Memory amount the input box, then move the mouse icon to the item you want to know the Soul Memory range.
  • Patch 1.10 added a function to make random matchmaking easier: when you're in the warp menu, the areas with multiplayer activity close to your Soul Memory will be outlined in orange.

There is a tier/threshold of soul memory at 45 million, what some players are calling the "Top Tier", upon passing this threshold, soul memory will become meaningless between players. For example: a player with a soul memory of 45 million can invade a player with a soul memory of 700 million, and vice versa. The Name-Engraved Ring reduces the soul memory required to invade and summon players in the "Top Tier". Another thing to note is the Cracked Blue Eye Orb, a player in the Top Tier can invade downwards to 15 million, however the increased range of the blue eye orb will allow players to invade others who are in the 12 million - 15 million range (a sort of pseudo top tier) and vice versa a 12 million player can invade infinitely upwards.

Note: NG and NG+ use the same matchmaking formula.

*Capping at SL 150? Many Community members have decided to stop increasing their Soul Level at 150, however this was partly due to their belief that matchmaking worked off of soul level and not soul memory in NG+, this has been proved untrue by Community member Illusorywall (found on gamefaqs or his tumblr blog). By part of doing PvP a player will increase his soul memory, eventually to the point that you will start getting matched with players at a much higher soul level. Capping at 150 does have a purpose though. If your intention is to participate in organised PvP events vs players at 150 only, capping at 150 can be for you, also if you want to only use the duel arena(s). However if you want to be invaded by random players and invade random players, there is absolutely no reason to stop increasing your soul level, you will only weaken yourself in online play if you do not. Skill does determine the winner of some fights, but if you were to remain at 150 and consistently increased your soul memory and say, managed to make it past 15 million (The Top Tier), then you will find yourself facing players with soul levels in the hundreds, with 40 in all stats, or higher. However if one wishes to maintain a focused build there is no reason to continue increasing ones Soul Level

is the total amount of souls that a player has accumulated. Spending them does not add to this total amount, merely earning souls add to this total amount, period. Collecting consumable items that grant souls upon use does not increase your Soul Memory. Using those items however will increase your Soul Memory.

  • Soul memory can be checked in the "Player Status" menu. If you are having trouble locating a summon sign it is often beneficial to leave the area and come back.

Soul Memory Tiers and Exact Ranges for Multiplayer Connections

How are the ranges calculated?
Soul Memory is divided into tiers, but the tiers are not hard boundaries. Instead, different multiplayer items extend across different amounts of neighboring tiers. So there's no direct math involved, it's a question of
A) What tier am I in?, and
B) How many tiers above and below my own can I pair up with?
It is NOT anything like +/- 25%, 50,000, etc.

The Tiers
Here is a list of the tiers. Bolded values in the left column indicate an increase in tier size.

I just wanna do some co-op lmao, 2M SM and I can't find a single soul to help in DLCs areas

      • Anonymous

The sm mechanic makes it way harder to grind for sunlight medals I’m barely getting any summons in apparent hotspots

        • Anonymous

Well, after about 6 hours of trying to play with my friend, he doesn't see summon signs unless he restarts his game from the menu, then he can summon me, I can help him, I can't see his sign no matter what we do. I am at a loss. Yes, I am human, I am in no covenant whatsoever, neither is he, we tried with the ring basically with every god, we are around 10k soul memory apart... I have no idea what to do anymore. If anyone has any fix I would love that. If not.. I guess we need to skip DS2

( P.S. Scholar of the first sin. Yes we are both on it. )

          • Anonymous

I just confirmed that I invaded someone 7 tiers higher than me using a red eye orb + being in the brotherhood of blood covenant. Idk if this is common knowledge ?

            • Anonymous

This is the dumbest thing I've ever seen, FS definitely dropped the ball with this co op. I'm just trying to play with a friend and can never summon or be summoned because his a games that's level 36 and soul memory of 50000 and I'm level 26 with a soul memory of 7000, this is absolute dog sh!t

              • ------ 2022 Guidelines for summoning your friends ------ {From simplest questions to most complex}
                |=========================================|
                A. Is the Host Human? [ Always have an effigy spare in your Item Box! ]
                B. Does the Host have a Human Effigy Effect? [ Nullify this at the Bonfire ]
                C. Does the Host have the Name Engraved Ring equipped with the correct God?
                D. Taking into consideration the circumstances with C, are all parties within range?
                E. Are any parties in a covenant which prohibits multiplayer play?
                F. Is the Host accidentally Offline? [ Bloodstains and Messages are easy to identify ]
                G. Is anyone softbanned? Are your games completely updated?
                -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
                * I have done some testing with friends, and it seems the wiki has the Name Engraved Ring + Small White Sign barely off, as I have been able to be summoned by friends 7 tiers away. This has not been fully confirmed, but by anecdotal evidence, this has happened to me
                * Using a Trash character recently, I murdered every NPC in order to get items to give to my friend as a reward for helping me bridge some important items... I could not be summoned to him, and I notice in the top left, a grey blob (kind of looked like a Cracked Eye Orb) with a red line over it. This must mean accumulating Sin temporarily locks you out of Co-Op play, as just before doing this, I was able to be summoned. I was capable of summoning him though, we met all of my requirements, but perhaps there is a hidden letter H here, does the host have this symbol in their top left corner, directly under their stamina bar.

I will continue to verify this, I hope this helps someone.

Im trying to play with someone on sotfs, we are 4 levels apart and our soul memory are about like 1 to 3 thousand apart. we also have the name-engraved ring, is it the servers or is it something else?

                  • Anonymous

Soul Memory I think works perfectly fine in regards to invasions. But I'd say a Password matchmaking system for Co-op or summoned PvP would've been better, since I'm sure a lot of co-op sessions had to be done with care since going about 600k over a friend (cuz you are farming for a specific armor-set/weapon) would force you to wait for them to catch up.

Frankly, DS3 using matchmaking based on Level and Weapon Enhancement is the best, and even if you used Password Matchmaking between a level 30 host and level 200 phantom, the latter would be scaled down in stats to only be relatively level ~50 in power.

                    • Anonymous

From the range calculator the tiers are 45 not 44. Is it true? I'm 500.000.000 soul memory and I can't invade a friend which is 75.000.000 but he can invade me

                      • Anonymous

Basically you can make +10 claymore with ring of blades +2 and leo ring and legit one shot ppl at heide or forest

God i hate these arbitray mechanics where you get put on "same" skill level as other players. I've have had enough of that **** in many competitive matchmaking games. Most anti-fun mechanic you can have in any game.

Man people are a bunch of whiny *****es just get gud honestly this mechanic feels almost no different then any other souls game.

just remember a group of experienced game developers all sat around at a table and they all agreed this was a good idea

Hey the dragon eye is wrong, I am on vinalla ds2, and my soul memory was 15mil and my friends was 4700000, we couldnt use the summons other than the dragon eye, so it's down 6, up 6.

I'm in teir 36 and I literally can not find anyone, I have never seen a summon sign or an invader in my life.

So I am soul level 111 with 800000 soul max and my friend his level 75 with 300000 soul level we are at salt fort I have killed the sinner and he doesn't but when I put my summnon sign he just can't see it even with with name engraved ring(same god, same weapon reinforcement) its because I am too overleved????

Does anyone still play online on DS2 vanilla? I see ghosts and bloodstains but im never summoned, and never see summon signs ://

The downside to this system is how barren DS II feels at this point. I simply wish there was an option buried in the menu to play with an DS1 styled system. It feels pointless to come forward with a suggestion, but I'm curious to see what the community would feel about it: When hosts and invaders fight, their weapons and armor are calculated at their base and/or infused, un-upgraded stats. This doesn't negate experienced players using advanced tech and equipment against new players, and allows upgrades to remain useful and relevant for summoning against enemies and bosses. One of the best parts of Souls is seeing the variety of builds people create fill up the game. Would this work or ruin it?

17800 can be summoned by under 40000 with small soapstone. SM is wonderful compared to DS1 or 3 where a weapon can change your range.

Anyone know how this really works ... this doesn't seem quite right. Yesterday I was invaded, and out of curiosity I compared games with other player ... my SM was 900+k and his was 300+k according to this table that puts him 8 lvls below me and not able to invade

                                            • Anonymous

ah, i remember when i spent 5 hours Killing the Giant Lord over and over again, just so that i could reach the 45million soul tier and connect to my friends without having to worry about soul memory tiers

                                              • Anonymous

I have no idea how anyone could consider this good game design. Want to buy consumables? Get f*cked in PvP. Want to use bows or crossbows? Get f*cked in PvP. Want to try out and upgrade multiple weapons and armor pieces? Get f*cked in PvP. Died twice without regaining your souls? Die some more in PvP. Having to keep soul memory in mind for literally everything you do in the game absolutely ruins it. It takes away all the fun of just playing the game without planning ahead every little step you take. Also thanks to the Agape Ring this system doesn't even protect you from twinks, so why bother? A new player will most likely have a higher SM tier than what would be optimal anyway, but now their character will be at a PERMANENT disadvantage, unlike with twinks, so it's actually way worse. Yeah, if you're good enough at PvP you can kill players hundreds of levels above you, but in that case you can also kill twinks on a new character, can't you? And if the enemy is on equal skill levels you're just f*cked.

                                                • Anonymous

so why does the page say that the white sign soapstone can send down 2 up one when the tool provided right before that shows that it can send down 3 and up one?

                                                  • I think this matching ranking is utter BS. At very early stages of the game I was invaded by very high level players, one of which had the Acid Cloud spell which I know is available quite a bit later in the game. He fried my armor then killed me in one attack.

                                                    • Anonymous

To everyone, SM is an attempt to protect new players from what happens in DS1 and 3, invaded by one punch man, however in later game it loses that value especially for dex build with bows, they will die, everyone else it's fine mostly, so really the best one is situational, SM is basically your experience in dark souls with that character, which is a better summoning idea, just needed refining

                                                      • This information is completely incorrect, or Dark Souls 2 SOTFS has changed something with online match making, my soul memory is 150k roughly, and my friends souls memory is a little over 50k but both of us can summon each other to our worlds, I summon him to mine, and he can summon me to his, also we are around the same soul level, don’t know how to explain that but we are obviously in way different soul tiers than each other but can still coop

The information containing in this wikia is probably not true, because I, with 3.000.000 souls could not summon a friend of mine with 3.990.000, but he could summon me, even though we are supposedly from the same tier, and were even using Name-engraved ring We've tried for a least 3h straight... But of course, the reason could be another other than the wikia being wrong about tiers

I liked this game too. but in this matchmaking system I can't use arrows or any consumables cause of getting into a disadvantaged tier.. how could you made a such bull*****system fromsoft? and why didn't you fix it yet.

                                                                      • This entire summon range thing is simply lazy work to avoid the effort of adjusting player attributes when summoned. They could've very well re-adjust every summoned player to a similar stat range of the host, but they chose to simply restrict the range of players that can be summoned. If you want to play with others (especially now that DSII has fewer players) you aren't allowed to farm pretty much anything. 50 Loyce souls easily grant you 1-2 mil. in the process in NG. The best part is that the soul lost at death is also counted into SM. So you can't 'dispose' the souls you don't want by dying. You gonna actively wear that damn ring in order to keep yourself on track. You know what I'm actually glad that the Soul Level range thing is back is DSIII. It's also bad, but this is worse.

                                                                        • Anonymous

A friend and I have played through together, but I'm consistently 2-4 tiers above him, and depending on what it's at at the moment, I have to use the small soapstone to connect to him, even when using the ring. PC SoTFS, if that matters. Did they change how it works? I don't see any mention of it anywhere.

                                                                          • Anonymous

                                                                            • Anonymous

The thing is, to me at least, Dark souls isn't mainly a coop game. Coop can ease your pain sometimes but, it's not meant to be full coop all the way down. Coop makes the game easier, in case of dark souls 2, even more.

                                                                              • Anonymous

I've been playing dark souls 2and I honestly don't know why they put soul memory in the first place if people want to co op shoot make the happen

                                                                                • Anonymous

What a stupidly and unnecessarily convoluted system to just permit player to play together... Little wonder the game is so loathed within 'Souls' circles...

                                                                                  • Anonymous

Cracked red eye orb is down 3 not up 3. i just fought someone and calculated his soul memory, he is 3 tiers higher than me.

                                                                                    • Anonymous

The name engraved ring and the cracked red eye orb can stack with each other. I just did it for trading. It love to see this updated to help other people see this

                                                                                          • Anonymous

At low SM People dont have the orbs to invade .. and when they do have the orbs to invade they are all way too high SM to connect with anybody, these days nobody plays with high SM .. People usualy playthrough the game once and move on to other games... if only the orbs were alot easier to get i think People would enjoy Invading alot more early on

                                                                                            • Anonymous

cracked blue eye orb invasions should be unlocked the same way the cracked red eye orbs work. at least it should be something similar with the dragon eye so it would be up 4 and down 4 tiers. right now that covenant seems to be dead for me. maybe it becomes alive when i gain more soul memory. im at 1 MIL

                                                                                              • Anonymous

hi guys, need a little help here, me and my bro are playing DS2 SOFTS and we wanna play coop, both of us are having name engrave ring and 1 tier different in soul memory, but i can summon my bro easily without a problem but my bro cant summon me...anyone knows what is happening here? My soul memory is 85k and my bro is 64k

                                                                                                • Anonymous

so dark souls 2's co-op system is based on your soul memory? that's bull why not make it like on bloodborne where you can co-op based on level and not how many souls you havd once

                                                                                                  • Anonymous
