Boss Soul Weapons in Dark Souls II are Weapons crafted from the souls dropped by Bosses throughout the game. There are various weapons which can be constructed from the souls. You may also consume the Boss Souls if you wish, but they are best reserved for the construction of these unique weapons. You can trade the Boss Souls you've acquired to two different NPCs namely Straid and Ornifex. Each of them produces different types of Boss Soul Weapons often from the same Souls so it is important that you choose which NPC you'll trade in your Souls.

Choosing the best Boss Soul Weapons in Dark Souls II depends on personal preferences, playstyle, and character build. Here are some widely appreciated weapons:
- King's Ultra Greatsword (Soul of the King): A formidable ultra greatsword with high base damage and scaling in both Strength and Dexterity. Wielding it with both hands enhances its power significantly, albeit at the cost of increased stamina consumption.
- Curved Dragon Greatsword (Ancient Dragon Soul): This greatsword has a unique curved blade and scales well with both Strength and Dexterity. It can be obtained by trading the Ancient Dragon Soul with Ornifex.
- Crypt Blacksword (Old Dead One Soul): Acquired by trading the Old Dead One Soul with Straid of Olaphis, this ultra greatsword deals significant Dark damage and can be potent for Dark builds.
- Sacred Chime Hammer (Soul of Velstadt): A massive hammer with high damage and Dark scaling. It requires both Strength and Faith to wield effectively.
- Ivory King Ultra Greatsword (Soul of the Ivory King): This ultra greatsword has a unique moveset and can deal significant damage. It scales well with both Strength and Dexterity..
How to get Boss Soul Weapons in DS2
DS2 Boss Soul Weapons and some Spells are acquired through trading. This involves giving an NPC a boss soul and getting a spell or piece of equipment in return, plus a soul fee for creating the spell/weapon. You do not need any of the base weapon types. There are two NPCs who can be traded with for boss weapons, and each with their own inventories.
Straid of Olaphis
- (The Lost Bastille)
- Requires 3 INT for him to trade with you
- Trades boss souls for both spells and weapons, also sells some very useful spells without trading boss souls.
- Locate Straid in his cell in Lost Bastille (located above the stairs past the gate to Sinners' Rise).
- Unpetrify him using a Fragrant Branch of Yore after clearing out all the enemies surrounding him.
- Assuming that your Intelligence is at least a 3, you may now trade with him.
- If you trade at least 4 boss souls, talk to him and he will give you the Black Set (the staff he uses can only be obtained in Dragon Shrine at the cost of a Pharros Lockstone, an incredibly low price for any sorcerer with 50+ INT).
Weaponsmith Ornifex (Brightstone Cove Tseldora)
- Trades boss souls for weapons.
- Blacksmith, but does not have the ability to imbue.
- Near the Shaded Ruins bonfire there's a single petrified Lion Clan Warrior just across the tree bridge. Unpetrify and kill him to get the Fang Key.
- To the right of the Giant Basilisk, there are some wooden planks on the ground. If you walk on these planks, they will break and you will fall into a pit with 4 regular Basilisks that ambush you. These basilisks will petrify you quickly if not expected. Fight them or run further into the cave (if you do decide to run through the cave, avoid the puddles as they will corrode your equipment). Once the basilisks have been killed, you will find a locked wooden door. Use the Fang Key to unlock it and talk to Ornifex to trigger her relocation.
- Ornifex will leave and go to a room full of dolls near the third bonfire in Brightstone Cove Tseldora. She'll grant you a free trade (boss weapons only) of your choice (standard pricing is not shown when trading the first time).

by far the best boss weapons in the series, way more interesting than any of the other games and more varied. Fashion souls was so fun in this game, sad that they killed it by making dark souls 3 bland and boring.

i do have to say, people skip a lot of good things added in DS2

The boss soul weapons are nice, but would be better if there were some weapons for sorcerers...a nice staff would be great

Hey, I'm level 100 now and heading into harvest valley for the first time. Got almost ten souls + lost sinner and have only used one boss soul, traded for the bow. Maybe I'll use all other boss souls.. Haven't met the second boss soul trader yet though
Ffs, solely snotbrats in here whining and expressing bs that's irrelevant to the thread topic. Sod off!
Now, back to the subject concerning boss soul weapons. I'm on my first playthrough, 8 hours in at around level 45. Got the two first boss souls so far and I'm wondering if it's worth it to save them of consume for leveling up instead?
What boss soul weapons are your favorites in the game and why? (best scaling, speed etc)
Cheers!

For those who want to get all of them, here's what you'll need:
4x Dragonrider Soul
3x souls from Flexile Sentry, Nashandra, and Vendrick (Soul of the King)
2x souls from the Pursuer, Executioner's Chariot, Smelter Demon, The Duke's Dear Freja, Looking Glass Knight, Velstadt, Guardian Dragon, Throne Defender, Throne Watcher, Fume Knight, Nadalia, as well as Old Witch Soul, Old King Soul, Old Dead One Soul, and Old Paledrake Soul
1x soul from the Last Giant, Old Dragonslayer, Ruin Sentinels, Belfry Gargoyles, The Lost Sinner, Skeleton Lords, Covetous Demon, Mytha, Old Iron King, Royal Rat Vanguard, Royal Rat Authority, The Rotten, Scorpioness Najka, Demon of Song, Ancient Dragon, Giant Lord, Darklurker, Elana, Sinh, Sir Alonne, Aava, Lud, Zallen, The Burnt Ivory King, and Alsanna.
Unlike DS1, you don't need an upgraded weapon to "ascend" into a boss weapon, so all you need is the boss soul and enough souls to pay Straid or Ornifex to make it into a piece of equipment.
While you can use Bonfire Ascetics to get most of the duplicates, you will still need to do 3 NG cycles, because Soul of the King does not respawn unless you start another journey to Drangleic. Depending on how impatient you are, it may or may not be worth it to hold off on using Bonfire Ascetics.
If you want to upgrade all of these to the max level, it will take a grand total of 840 Petrified Dragon Bones (15 PDB x 56 upgradeable pieces). Removing the shields, of which there are 7, reduces this total to 735, which is better but still a lot. The best places to farm these are the Lair of the Imperfect, Dragon Aerie, and Dragon's Sanctum. The Imperfect are the best in my opinion, because drop the bones at a semi-common rate, allowing you to farm them infinitely without burning any Bonfire Ascetics, but they are tanky and it can be somewhat slow.
In order to actually use all of these weapons (one-handed), you will need 50 STR, 40 DEX, 53 INT, and 65 FTH. You will also need at least 4 Attunement slots, but I recommend 6 Attunement slots just so you are less limited in how many spells you can use. The best spot for farming souls is Giant Lord, who can be very easily killed with ranged attacks even well past Bonfire Intensity 9+ and drops a very large quantity of souls, capping out near 500k at high Bonfire Intensities when wearing the full Tseldora set and the Covetous Silver Serpent Ring +2. My personal favorite setup is a hex build using Great Resonant Soul to pile on big damage quickly. It does use souls power the spell, but it's a pretty negligible amount compared to how many you get from killing the boss.
Finally, in order to do all of this, you will need roughly 1 million souls to both buy all of the items and upgrade them to max level. For the level ups, assuming you start as the Warrior and level up nothing but the required stats, it will take roughly an additional 3 million souls, and more if you level up other things too, which you really should. Assuming my math is correct, that comes to a final count of a lot of god damn souls. But farming the Giant Lord is so profitable that it really won't take that long to get that many.
