by Edge. 15 Dec 2012

  • Hidetaka Miyazaki, creator of the Souls series and director of Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, will supervise but not be directly involved in the development of Dark Souls II.
  • Co-director Tomohiro Shibuya intends to make the game "more accessible" in terms of covenants, story, and possibly more aspects.
  • The team working on Dark Souls II is substantially bigger than the team that worked on Dark Souls.
  • According to the article writers, the graphics were substantially improved, so much so that they speculated the game would debut on the next console generation. This was neither confirmed nor denied during the interview.
  • Dark Souls II will feature an Undead as the player-character, and will not take place in Lordran.
  • As of the time of interview (Dec 2012), Dark Souls II is approximately 25% complete. Development began in August or September of 2011. Staff shifted from development of the new Dark Souls content (Prepare to Die Edition/Artorias of the Abyss DLC) to Dark Souls II as needed.
  • Good and bad behavior will have an effect on the player's experience apart from the online invasion. A special NPC riding a chariot can be met (fought ?) if the player is evil. No more information's given regarding of how to meet him and if good aligned characters get to meet other NPCs.

  • A dedicated server system will complement the online aspects of the game.
  • Shibuya believes Dark Souls conveyed a sense of loneliness and despair, and hopes to convey "sorrow" in the next title.
  • Dark Souls: Artorias of the Abyss won the Playstation Awards 2012 User's Choice Award.
  • Dark Souls sold at least 1.5m units.
