Grand Lance is a Lance and one of the available Weapons in Dark Souls 2. Grand Lance is a rare lance made from geisteel, used by high-ranking Drangleic Knights. It has dashing light attacks for charging and stunning enemies, and a leaping power attack for high damage. The Grand Lance is the only lance that can be buffed with resins and upgraded with Normal Titanite. It has high counter damage, making it deal over 700 damage per hit when used after an enemy attack.

A Lance fashioned from rare geisteel, Designed for high-.ranking Drangleic Knights, hence the design
''Geisteel equipment is of the finest make, but geisteel is so rare that very few of these weapons were actually used in combat.'''

How to get Grand Lance in Dark Souls 2

DS2 Grand Lance Regular Version:

  • Memory of Orro, at the beginning go into the left door and climb the stairs all the way up. There is a crane with a destructible prop which will lower a platform which needs to be dropped to. Then jump through the hole in the wall and you'll find the chest with the lance. Be warned, there is a giant in the same room just to the right of the hole you enter from.

DS2 Grand Lance Scholar of The First Sin:

  • Forest of Fallen Giants, right outside the King's Gate on a corpse. You need to kill the Last Giant for the Soldier Key to access this part of the area.

DS2 Grande Lance Hints and Tips

  • Has dashing light attacks that allow you to charge and stun your target, and a leaping power attack that inflicts large damage.
  • This is the only lance that can be buffed using resins.
  • Upgraded with Normal Titanite.
  • The damage for this weapon seems low when just looking at the stats however the high counter damage means attacking after an enemy has just attacked lets the weapon hit for over 700 dmg per hit.
  • Power Stance moveset is thrusting with both weapons, you can power stance with daggers, curved sword, straight sword, but not mace.
  • You may also wield a Parrying Dagger or curved sword for parrying, to imitate a retro lance w/ parrying weapon style.
  • Also works great for PvE when combined with a shield with high stability and enough stamina, although requires either good lining up of attacks or turtling for efficent crowd control.
  • Infusing this weapon with poison is extremely effective in PvP and PvE. Charging with the weapon hits multiple times, allowing the poison to stack up quickly. Most enemies (and players) can be poisoned with a full charge attack and maybe one or two additional hits.

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.
The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].
This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.

This thing pokes hard, and being able to apply resins for whatever a boss is weakest to is a boon. It's also an excellent quality weapon for str/dex builds, and it's a perfect weapon to use if you plan on getting the fugs since that requires 40/30 to wield. The fact that it upgrades with regular titanite is probably the best thing about it honestly. It may be a poke stick, but it slaps.

      • One of the reasons why SOFTS it's better than the original game is because this is an early game weapon, an also you can get two of them.

        • Anonymous

This weapon is surprisingly very good for NG+ and beyond. Also, for those looking for fashion, the Dragonrider Set perfectly matches the design and color of the lance.

Okay. I'm on SotFS. I killed last giant. I have soldier key in my inventory and even opened the door above Cardinal Tower with it. The door just outside the Last Giant arena is still locked. Anyone know wtf is going on?

            • Anonymous

It's hard to precisely pinpoint why, but I really do prefer DS2's lances to Elden Ring's great spears. Might be because of their weightier animation/sfx or maybe their absurd counter damage. But man, do I just love this thing.

              • Anonymous

Solid weapon for a blindfold playthrough. On a run where you have about as little precision as possible, being able to poke for huge damage behind a shield is really nice.

                • Anonymous

It having Strike and Thrust damage type allow you to exploit any ennemies weakness in the game, its very strong, very funny thay made it available so early in Softs.

                  • Anonymous

The damage cost of poison infusion isn't worth it imo, you lose out on massive counters which is the one thing lances excel at. If you want poison, just offhand a quick infused weapon to slash mfs who rush you. Poison Heide knight sword, Poison Manslayer and Mytha's bent blade do the job better.

                    • Anonymous

Just tried it, omfg is it amazing. Killed dragonrider in less than 30 hits with this beast of a weapon. 10/10 would reccomend. Eesy to parry tho in pvp so maybe 8.5/10 cause of the stamina usage.

                      • The BDR, Big **** Rapier. One of the strongest weapons in the game with how counters are calculated combined with leo ring. Power stance these bad boys and you can hit for 900-1100 per counter with just a 40/40 quality build. Very fast too. They are kinda heavy but not TOO heavy so you can still get good stamina regen.

It says C on both STR and DEX when fully upgraded but STR actually scales it much better. You will still want a quality build though unless you are going spells.

i like how in SOFTS they made this weapon from late game to early game, they wanted us to feel its power.

                          • Anonymous

i am still on my first playthrough and i was a 50 str behemoth with a +5 dragon tooth and then i found this in the late game... easily my favorite weapon in DS2 until i found the Chariot lance...

I’ve never enjoyed spears and the like in the ds series, they always felt too passive for me. But this absolute menace has changed my mind, along with Yorghs spear

This thing is a beast in sotfs, could easily get you through the whole game. But pick it up right after the last giant and lighting infuse it, literally dark souls easy mode.

                                • Anonymous

Grand lance + old leo ring + engraved gauntlets = insanely massive damage if you crit on a counter attack

                                  • Anonymous

I died countless times trying to get this thing is the original game. It sucked. Then in SOTFS they put it in the tutorial area...

                                    • Anonymous

Used this and the Craftsman Hammer my first time through SotFS.
Give yourself a good shield and a bow and you can cruise through the game, having an answer for any situation.

                                      • Anonymous

People complain Dark Souls is to hard? Use this. Want to get easy kills in the best Souls pvp to the 2020 date? Use this broken ****. Even in 2020 the thing is cancer and if DS2 does get a remaster like DS1 I hope FROM actual does more than graphic overhauls and balance **** out.

                                        • Anonymous

The "Grand" in "Grand Lance" is very fitting. This is an unbelievably good weapon you get very early, in SotFS atleast. Sure, 445 AR doesnt sound that good at 40/40 and +10. But as the notes already say, the 160 Counter is disgustingly strong. 160. Combine that with the Old Leo Ring and maybe RoB+2 if you want to, and you have a hard hitting weapon. Its tracking aint the best if youre off-axis already, so dont spam R1R1R1 when you arent sure youre alligned properly. It*****box is bonkers in PvP. Its backstabs really hurt. The range is good. And its attacks are quite satisfying. Only real drawback is the fact that its so heavy. So making a Rob Flynn build with it could be a bit tougher. But overall, really good weapon that i can wholeheartedly recommend for Strenght, Quality and even Dex builds.

                                          • Anonymous

I run a dex build and this weapon, along with ds spear, are my armored boi killers, since dex weapons are sh**t against heavy armor.

                                            • Anonymous

Should add to the tips that it's hit box is the size of the ancient dragon and can stun no matter what even if the opponent has over 100 poise. Hopefully if DS2 gets a remaster this thing gets fixed.... and by that I mean nerfed.

                                              • Anonymous

"It is recommended to infuse with Dark if you have 50 Intelligence and 50 Faith" Well no*****, if you have 50/50 just about everything should be dark infused.

                                                • Anonymous

I got back in the game now on the ps4 with the scholar bundle... and just when I got stuck at around lv 200 this weapon helped me alot, it has the perfect balance between range, speed and weight (stun locks anything with stone ring even one handed) to be used in any situation, the hitbox is kinda broke probably because its so thick, lots of fun for the ones that don´t like cheesing their way and play it simple with a shield and bow, plus it has a weirdly high durabillity of 130 perfect for the long and slow NG++ enemies.
