A Katana of unknown origin. Damage to foes also damages its owner.

The peculiar pattern upon the blade suggests the sinister nature of this cursed blade. It is an alluring vortex and a lonely soul.

Acquired From

  • Weaponsmith Ornifex, traded for Old Witch Soul and 10,000 souls.
  • Can only be acquired in NG+ and beyond or by using Bonfire Ascetic at the Sinner's Rise bonfire in a normal game.


Hints and Tips:

  • Reinforced with Petrified Dragon Bone to +5.
  • Successful hits also damage the wielder (50 HP). Self damage will still be applied when attacking destructible objects, but not when attacking indestructible objects. You can be killed by the self damage.
  • The self damage can be offset by using the Ring of the Evil Eye or Ring of Restoration as well as Resplendent Life and Replenishment.
  • The 2-handed strong attack has excellent direction control and can be used to bait opponents into approaching into range. A successful hit can almost always be followed by a second strong attack to deal a substantial amount of damage.
  • As of Regulation 1.08, Chaos Blade now receives S Dexterity scaling. At Normal + 5 and 50 DEX, the weapon has an attack rating of 374. With the Ring of Blades +2, the attack rating is 424. Self damage 30 -> 50.
  • The blade's length is longer than the Blacksteel Katana and shorter than the Washing Pole; also handy for dual wielding.

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.
The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].
This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".

Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped.
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has.
