Gyrm Greataxe is a Greataxe and one of the available Weapons in Dark Souls 2. Grym Greataxe offers high physical damage and scales with Strength. It has a slightly higher weight and dexterity requirement compared to the standard Greataxe.

A greataxe used by the nomadic Gyrm.

At first glance this greataxe appears crude, but with further examination one sees the fine craftsmanship of Gyrm blacksmiths. Quite heavy for a human, but swung about with reckless abandon by the Gyrm.

How to get Gyrm Greataxe in Dark Souls 2

DS2 Gyrm Greataxe Hints and Tips

  • With 120 stamina you can perform four 2-handed R1 attacks, versus only being able to do just 3 with the normal Greataxe.
  • Mundane version of this weapon loses all scaling after +1.
  • The rolling 2-handed R1 attack is similar to the Greataxe in Demons Souls.
  • The powerstance moveset is identical to Lion Greataxe, light attack from Ultra Greatswords and strong attack from Great Hammers.
  • The 1-hand light attack moveset is similar to that of the Greatsword, however it is roughly 10% faster (start to middle of swing in 19 frames vs 21 for the greatsword).
  • 75 Str/12 Dex required to powerstance.

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.
The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].
This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped.
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has.
Regular(R), Thrust(T), Slash(Sl), Strike(St)

Its actually 110 counter, and 140 durability. Basically, it's one of the very, very few weapons in the game that doesn't break after slapping a few hollows with it. This 140, smelter hammer 300, and the grand Lance 105, are practically the only weapons you can actually clear an area with. Unless you can afford the repair powder for 2500 souls each, but you can't even buy it infinitely until you're pretty far in the game.

real stats 55 poise (above UGS) 110 counter (above GH)
least stamina consumption compared to lions and black dragon (worst)
2h this thing clears regular mobs quickly with a lot of control - stone ring 2h r1 stuns even sanctum soldiers in 1 hit
powerstance moveset is a better combo than just UGS or GH in my opinion and pairs well with an offhand ultra greatsword or king's ultra greatsword (strike damage) - only con is mainhand range
offhand it with a main hand bone fist for maximum testosterone

Wanted to Powerstance two of these. Got the one from Gavlan, then farmed the Axe Gyrm for like 30 minutes, didn't get it.

          Forgive me, Gavlan...

Gotta love how one of the best great hammers is merely a big sturdy stick with a massive anvil and some heavy chain wrapped around it, the Gym truly are geniuses

Half the reach of the Greatsword while weighing more, still needing DEX investment if you're a Deprived, having worse scaling and being more difficult to obtain. Wow, what an incredible weapon!

Very good STR weapon for NPC phantoms, since they all mindlessly walk into your attacks, you can just 1hR1 combo them for upwards of 3k damage. For players, they'll have to be as dumb as the AI in this game to take the combo bait, but that's more common than you would think

I dont have the stats to wield this thing, but apparently it didnt give me a damage decrease, it just lowered my scaling to +6 extra AR, answers?

Rerunning through the game before the final DS3 DLC drops. Im running thru with a tanky strength hero. Right now im decked out in heavy armor and wielding one of these. Feels amazing

This thing is MONSTER. It hits like a freight train and its R1R1 combo is extremely fast so long as the hits connect with an enemy. It lacks range though
