Vendrick's Blessing
2014-09-29_00023.jpg |
Once the player has acquired the 3 Crowns of the Lost Kings ( Crown of the Sunken King, Crown of the Old Iron King, Crown of the Ivory King) and the King's Crown, then they may travel into Vendrick's memory to receive some new dialogue, a short cut scene, and a blessing from the King. In the cut scene Vendrick appears to infuse the crown your character is holding with a new power. This gives a new bonus to the King's Crown and the 3 DLC crowns where, if worn, the player can no longer hollow or be cursed, similar to if they were wearing a Ring of Life Protection. Did the King find a 'cure' to the curse that he had been fighting for so long, or is it just another illusion...
- Effect doesn't carry to next NG
- While the blessing prevents hollowing on death it doesn't keep your collected souls on death (similar to losing as an invading red phantom), causing you to still have to recover your souls.
- After getting Vendrick's blessing in NG+, the crowns from the last playthrough also regain their special abilities (tested with my already upgraded and blessed Crown of the Old Iron King)
- It is to be noted, this effect is NOT a buff. This means that you will actually have to wear one of the three DLC crowns before you die, otherwise you will turn hollow.

It matters in the end because you can use it in frigid outskirts

GOD, is this a joke? Not only do I have to wear those ugly ass crowns for the effect to work but it also doesn't carry to new game plus, LOL

alright so the minimum amount of bosses you can leave alive before you get this are:
dlc optional bosses (gank squad, lud and tim zallen, etc.)
both rat covenant bosses
darklurker
ancient dragon
flexile sentry/pursuer
ruin sentinels
gargoyles
the chariot
red smelter demon if you're confident in your management skills
sir alonne
vendrick
throne meatriders, nashandra and aldia
so with all that taken into account, is this buff that's only on 4 helmets worth it? not really, but this saves you on potentially dozens of effigies and souls to buy them again, plus if you're invaded/grinding for something like loyce souls while in coc and die, your only real worry is the soul pickup at that point so if you have the time and patience to work for this every ng (seriously wtf taking it away at that point), go for it if you want

Good thing I saved the DLC for post game and will have this crown on if I get killed while thumbing through menus before going to ng+
- Anonymous
Do I get anything from killing him? The blessing seems useless
Nice blessing you got there.
Would be a shame if someone....
Removed it in ng+...
- Anonymous
only use for this if you're a first timer and killed every boss worth killing before this is to leave them alive in future runs and get this before to save yourself effigies if you suck and ignore nashandras curse blobs actually cursing you
- Anonymous
I just got the blessing in NG+ with the 3 DLC crowns in this playthrough but without Vendrick's. I thought you needed all 4 of them again but it seems not?
- Anonymous
Intended purpose seems to make Nashandra easier by nullifying her curse effect, makes lore sense too.

just barely tilting over the fact that it doesnt carry over to ng+ cause all that work for basically nothing. hollowing is an inconveniencing effect so clearing all the big content, and getting a reward that takes some of the tedium out of the playthrough, just to have it yoinked from you as soon as you decide to go again is a frustrating design choice.
i'm just generally not great so i usually just throw myself at **** until i win, and when i run out of effigies is usually when i take extended breaks from the game
- Anonymous
It's not a crazy good reward, but thematically, extremely cool

so it lasts until the ng+, which kinda sucks when you realize that you can probably get another RoLP/RoSP (yknow, the ring of sacrifice). however, can i activate this again with the 3 crowns acquired from the last playthrough and the king's crown from that last playthrough? just askin guys.

Just clicked then, I swear this is a mercy gift for Frigid Outskirts

Do you need all 4 Crowns, or can you just grab the King's Crown or a Crown and have it blessed? It seems like an awful lot of work to go through, not only the base game but all the other DLCs just to keep Max Health and Immune to Curse Effects just to not carry over to NG+.

the only use for this is to make the optional dlc areas a tiny bit more tolerable

EVERYONE FORGOT ABOUT BONFIRE ASTETICS JUST PUT A BONFIRE ASTETIC TO EXPREENCE NG +
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

What's the point of this blessing while you received at the end of the game and not carrying for NG+?! For me, I found that there is a ring in the game which called Ring of Life Protection, and I didn't aware of that until reading this page :))

The blessing is great for PvP as a host. Wear one of the crowns and feel free to summon any red or dragon spirit, you only losesouls if you die, and assuming you fight at the Iron Keep bridge, it's very close to bonfire, so it's guaranteed you recover your souls upon death.
The blessing doesn't give much for PvE, but it's handy for PvP when you didn't git gud enough.

Why doesn't it carry in ng+ ?
i mean you get it so late in the game, and all the bosses you had to kill just to get it. All that just for it to begone when you go in ng+.
I mean yes you can get it back in ng+ but it's only by repeating the same thing to get it again. It's tideous.
I thought you can now start a new game without having to use human effigy's again. And i mean the buff only works if you have one of the crowns on so it's not that broken to be honest.
So why even make it so you can't carry it in ng+ doesn't make any sense.

I killed all bosses in the game it didn't work. I did put vendricks area into ng+1 via bonfire ascetic so maybe that's why it isn't working?

just beat Ivory King and spoke to Vendrick. I don't have the King's Crown, yet he still gave me the blessing. Is this a bug or intended?
Ver. 1.11, not SOTFS

I feel everyone is missing the fact that this is scholar of the first sin and vendricks brother has been pushing you toward vendrick and his knowledge of the soul and curse all so you could get the crown, let the flame fade, and rule the dark as the true monarch and the only one able to keep their humanity and immortality

So I had got all 4 crowns, and the kings crown, and went through the animation to revive his blessing. But when I put on a crown I’m still hollow. I’m still in the original new game. Please help?
- Anonymous
It doesn't end the curse, you'll still respawn after death. I guess that's immortality for the bearer of the curse.
- Anonymous
well this was pointless i though that if i get the king blessing , i shall not be hollow anymore but seems to be very useless cause i think that wearing , ring of binding was no longer needed... damn i hate to hide my ugly hollow ass face with a bag of paper .PD actually a syans helm Llewelyn armor judgment gloves velstad leggins.

Do i need to collect all the crowns again on NG+ ? Because i don't get the blessings on NG+ aft i talked to him
- Anonymous
What's even the point of having this at the end of the game? You'll hardly have something to do when you get this
- Anonymous
I guess you are supposed to boss rush the dlcs doing only the main bosses and then once you have the blessing you can do lud and zallen, aged smelter, etc
- Anonymous
what's the not lore point in doing this if it won't carry over since you will probably have done everything by the time you get this
- Anonymous
Have you ever heard of the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise?
Ironic. He could save others from hollowing, but not himself.
- Anonymous
Guess this is usefull for PVP as it lets you host infinite invasions, if you also summon some friends they become the king's guards protecting from invaders, could be fun if i wasn't so late to play this game online, at least on PS4 its freeking dead even with the corona out there
- Anonymous
Surprisingly I’m not the only one playing this years later lol. Lost interest after the 1st dark souls. Pandemic made me dust off my old 360 and continue dark souls 2.

To all who said this was dumb, vendrick's blessing prove that the king has the immue from being hollowing though we found him hollwed, wandering round. The power is serve as a plot, an iceberg.
- Anonymous
After beating the game I came to him and I didn't get any cutscene. I didn't know I had to do it before
- Anonymous
Did you just complete the game and have nothing else to do in it? Cool here's a power up that doesn't punish you for dying while aimlessly wandering around. Just don't take it with you into a new game, that would be silly.
- Anonymous
I beat all 3 dlc and got kings crown but I cant get the buff, anyone know why?
It's absolutely ridiculous that you have to recomplete the DLCs on NG+. What's the point of a "no hollowing" buff when you have, at most, optional bosses and the last encounter left? I basically don't give a crap if I'm human or not then anyway and would take the armour aesthetic over the effect anyway.
- Anonymous
Crap I can’t continue my seigmire cosplay but I want to wear the crown onion hat or crown what should I chose
- Anonymous
"Effect doesn't carry to next NG" So what's the point knowing we'll get that at the very very very end of the game after tons of efforts??
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Between this n actually being able to fix the rings of life protection, at a certain point in the game there’s really no reason u should be loosing souls
- Anonymous
Unless you stopped going through the game's difficulties to pvp or something I don't see why they made this only work per Ng cycle. And it's not like effigies or the ring of life protection are hard to get, so while it isn't a big issue, I'd love it if they kept the perk permanently. Oh well...
It will be very helpful since this will spare a slot for a ring (in which there was the Ring of Life Protection in my progress). However, sad to say that when I have collected all 4 crowns, there will only be about 3 (or 4) bosses left (i.e. Lud and Zallen, Aldia and Nashandra).

Do I have to collect the 3 DLC crowns again in NG+? Or using the same 3 crowns obtained in NG will be enough?

Do you have to get the crowns, or can you just talk to vendrick

It doesn't carry to NG+? That's dumb, what's the point of doing it then?
I liked the idea of this buff but got annoyed when it didn't come with in NG+, so I beelined it to Vendrick to get it again. Just a heads up, this is SotFS version. Not sure how it'll differ in the regular version.
At minimum, you NEED to take out, either...
Last Giant and Pursuer in Forest of Fallen Giants, and Ruin Sentinals in the Lost Bastille,
OR
Dragonrider in Heide's Tower of Flame, and Flexile Sentry in No-man's Wharf. There's a BDSM cage lift available this way that lets you skip Ruin Sentinals.
You'll NEED to take out Lost Sinner in Sinners' Rise, though you'll have to do it with lights out if you went the Heide's Tower/No-man's Wharf route.
You'll NEED to take out The Skeleton Lords in Huntsman's Copse, Covetous Demon and Mytha in Earthen Peak, and the Old Iron King in the Iron Keep.
You DON'T need to take out Smelter Demon, his bonfire is just a nice checkpoint along the way.
You NEED to take out the Rotten in Black Gulch, that's the only boss to that bonfire. You don't even need to enter Grave of Saints for the Rat Vanguard.
You NEED to take out Scorpioness Najka in Shaded Woods, and Prowling Magus and Freja in Brightstone Cove Tseldora.
You DON'T need to take out the Royal Rat Authority in Doors of Pharros, just run through there.
You NEED to beat the Twin Dragonriders and the Looking Glass Knight in Drangleic Castle.
You'll NEED to beat ugly frog Demon of Song in Shrine of Amana.
You'll NEED to beat Velstadt in the Undead Crypt.
You DON'T need to kill Vendrick, as long as you still have the King's Crown from your first playthrough. If you lost it for some reason though, you'll have to kill Vendrick again to get a second one.
You'll NEED the Ashen Mist Heart, the only boss you NEED to kill for that is the Guardian Dragon in Aldia's Keep.
After that, you'll need to recollect the three DLC crowns. Unlike the King's Crown, which is fine with an old copy in your inventory, Vendrick's dialogue won't advance until the DLC crowns are recollected. Not sure if the required bosses need to be defeated, or you actually have to have the duplicate crowns in your inventory, but figuring out that specific trigger seems like a stupid waste of time for me. I just had seven crowns in my inventory when Vendrick gave me the blessing again, and four crowns in my inventory from my first playthrough didn't do ****, except advance dialogue once for the King's Crown.
To acquire the keys to the DLC's no additional bosses are required, though you'll have to take down the two giants in Black Gulch to grab the Forgotten Key, so you can acquire the Dragon Talon below Majula. The Frozen Flower you'll likely pick up effortlessly in Drangleic Castle. As for the Heavy Iron Key, it's in a room next to the Last Giant. You don't have to kill the Last Giant, just clear up to him.
Bosses you NEED to beat in the DLC...
Elana and Sinh in Dragon's Rest.
Fume Knight in Brume Tower.
Aava in Eleum Loyce.
Ivory King in Old Chaos.
Any other boss I didn't list, I never touched this playthrough, and you don't need them for Vendrick's Blessing.
