*When infused: 168 physical dmg/168 elemental dmg and B scaling with chosen element. Str scaling changes to C.
Hand Axe is a weapon in Dark Souls 2.
A crude hand axe.
More of a tool than a weapon. Its short range necessitates close-range, and therefore perilous, combat. Does a respectable amount of damage, however, considering its relatively light weight.
Acquired From
- Starting weapon of the Bandit
- Sold by Merchant Hag Melentia for 700 souls.
- Treasure pickup just upstairs from the Cardinal Tower bonfire in the Forest of Fallen Giants
Hints and Tips:
- Upgraded with regular Titanite to +10.
- Though at first this weapon may seem puny and harmless, it can be a very viable backup weapon. With relatively high damage for its weight and how early on you can get it, it is also an alright early game choice.

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.
The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].
This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped.
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has.

Do NOT listen to the description. This axe is incredibly good. I actually prefer it over the Bandit Axe even in end-game.

I use a magic version of this weapon and pair it with the small leather shield, and also use an enchanted light crossbow.
It is a good combo for a cleric looking to consider sorcery. [I don't know why, I am just a sucker for a priest-turned-sorcerer in all the souls games...]

This is like, the lowest requirement good weapon you can get, right?

This is the exact axe I use in real life to chop wood with. Like I wish I had a picture of my face when I saw it. Now playing a starting class of swordsman, powerstance DW two of these, with a character named after myself, and even looks identical to me, right down to my semi fat self (lost weight, I chop wood for a living now, so its becoming muscle). And I am kicking some boooooooooootay! Saved the game for me, literally.

Excellent secondary weapon for a str build. Quick attack, great for close up combat.

Love this thing Takes patience but its quick powerful and gets the job done.
Great move-set and damage, but the low durability is an issue for me. Needs multiple repairs to get through some areas. I guess it's mostly used as a boss weapon.

Great secondary just like in Dark Souls 1, but no Dex scaling... oh well, trade offs happen.

Legendary little axe. Great to keep handy on a STR build as a quick secondary

+10 raw handaxe is actually 310 damage, not 276. Fix, please?
This has been my melee of choice on my hexer for ages. I am currently looking for something better now that I'm in endgame, but I won't forget my first good melee.
