Rapier is a weapon in Dark Souls 2.
A standard thrusting sword.
Thrusting Swords are light swords with fine tips that can be used while holding up a shield, and are effective for parrying.
Use quick thrusts to damage hard-skinned foes. Also effective when fighting in narrow spaces.
Acquired From
- Sold by Blacksmith Lenigrast for 1000 Souls.
- Dropped by Forest Grotesque in Shaded Woods.
Hints and Tips:
- Upgraded with regular Titanite to +10.
- Rapier is a dexterity-based weapon; it has high dexterity damage bonus (B scaling for dexterity).
- Rapier makes a good defensive weapon. As any pierce-based weapon, it can be used to poke safely from behind a shield (attacking and blocking at the same time) but at the cost of reduced damage. However, attempting to use the previous attack to hit a shield might leave the user vulnerable after the attack is deflected. Another perk to using the rapier is its long-ranged moveset. It has long stabbing moves that can be used to punish and poke enemies at a distance. The downside to its thrust attacks is the lack of horizontal sweep, which isn't ideal when dealing with many enemies side ways. That aside, the main problem of many piercing weapons in Dark Souls II is the hitboxes and tracking of the thrust attacks, as they often miss and poorly track the target.
- This weapon has a parry instead of a strong attack when wielded in one hand. This is handy when dual wielding as it gives you at least some defensive capability other than rolling if you've got the rapier in the right hand. Strangely enough if dual wielded with a curved sword the rapier will preform slashing motions during the powerstance attacks. It is unknown what damage type these are as the weapon is only supposed to be capable of inflicting thrust damage.

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.
The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].
This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped.
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has.

Of all the cool, unique melee weapons in this game, the tiny-ass toothpick that has nothing but lame-o poke spam for its attacks is the most "Op and meta", Goes to show that the actually cool and unique weapons are never the "meta" weapons

I was disappointed when I tried powerstancing these after seeing how absurd this weapon was normally in pve, but it's just waaay slower and takes way more stamina and all around makes it worse and less safe to use compared to using one rapier

Step 1: Buy Rapier and Mace
Step 2: Get yourself 12/12 STR/DEX
Step 3: Upgrade them
Step 4: Profit??

i killed fume knight without dieing once to him using the rapier and im not good by any means

Shame the black reskin was never officially released, it looks gorgeous

Battle axe main hand, rapier off hand. Both grabbed from Lenigrast for cheap. Axe for high damage slashes and downward swings, and rapier for long distance pokes and parrying. Start as warrior class and you only need a single point invested in DEX to use both at full effectiveness.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how you set yourself up for the entire game, right from the very beginning of it.

man idk why rapier does like 70 damage even tho i got required stats

if this weapon didn't exist DS2 would've been more enjoyable TBH. extremely broken but makes the game boring
- Anonymous
One of the best if not THE best offhand weapon in the game. 14 active parry frames -- nearly as easy to parry with as the buckler. And while the poke is boring as hell as a main weapon, it's nice to have a fast poke on offhand.

this is literally the best weapon in the series. PvE-wise at least

I'm making a dex/Faith build can I buff this even if it's infused
- Anonymous
Note: the rapier performs best on a caster or miracle build due to the fact that you can both infuse and buff it, allowing you to deal high stupid damage while only leveling int/faith

I've been playing with this up until the Last Giant, and I get the hype now. Decent damage, low stamina cost, and low starting lag to the attack. But it's that counter damage that I could never figure out until I gave it a proper chance. The counter windows on at least the enemies I've fought up until now are huge. I've been able to get two to three counter hits on the turtle knight guys after most attacks, and each hit goes from 80 damage to 151. I never liked the thrusting swords in the other games because I could never get used to the move set, but this one feels better to use. I'm going to try something with the Old Leo Ring, Richard's Rapier, and the engraved gauntlets. Call it curiosity.

Best melee weapon for any pure int sorcs. Little to no stat requirements, insane dmg thanks to leo ring affected thrust counter. Go to doors of pharos, get the faint stone, i fuse this bad boy and cheese the game.

Low stats requirement makes it a great weapon for infusions.

right so we all know this is a badass weapon. however is it worth infusing? is infusion damage affected by the counter modifier? currently i have it at +10 and been buffing it. i have thousands of hours of gameplay but i only just started using this weapon so any advice is appreciated.

*abuses counter dmg to cheese every boss fight* heh, nothing personal devs
You can actually get this weapon to a plus 10 before fighting a single boss. Though this is true with any weapon you can get before a boss but this or the mace are by far the best. Thank you ymfah

This thing absolutely slaps on a dex/faith build when infused with lightning. Trash at hitting crystal lizards though...

This game probably has the most unique variety of weapons out of all 3 souls games. But if you level this weapon early, the game really has one weapon.

most people might praise the Ice Rapier, or the Espada Ropera, and Ricard's Rapier... yet at the end of the day, this baby right here has a lot of things you will ever really need... takes a bit less stamina then most late-game rapiers, weighs very little, can be gotten early, and it doesn't take much strength to powerstance two of these, and they parry just like the espada when one-handed, and let us not forget they are reliable to the end-game just like most other weapons found at start if you know how to use them. tell me, what is not to love?

Legendary weapons for each game.... Battle Axe in DeS Reinforced Club in DS1 Rapier in DS2 Saw Cleaver in BB Broadsword in DS3 And none of this fancy looking garbage.

If you are a mage with no so high str and dex, is worth using an Enchanted Rapier??

Who would win. Dragons, Legendary knights, giant two headed spiders... or some skinny boi with a toothpick

Who knew that of all the weapons in Dark Souls—massive swords, six-foot-long halberds, hammers bigger than the wielder—one of the weapons to be considered the most overpowered and devastating thing in the game was... some thin thrusting sword. :l
- Anonymous
Ever since i picked this up, ive always managed to incorporate It into my build somehow. It is amazing against single targets due to its good damage, fast attack speed, and low stamina cost per poke. Always have a good sidearm for horizontal swings if you get overwhelmed. Never underestimate its counter damage bonus! Poke weapons become devastating when attacking right before and right after an enemy attack.
