Special | Shield Piercing Strong Attack |
Mail Breaker is a weapon in Dark Souls 2.
A slightly stubby thrusting sword. Has a sharp, sturdy blade designed for thrusting. The Mail Breaker has limited reach, but a powerful critical attack. Effective against foes donning thick armor or with naturally hard skin.
Effect: shield piercing (strong attack)
Acquired From
- Treasure in the Forest of Fallen Giants: look for a chest above the Old Ironclad Soldier.
- Rare drop from Ducal Spider.
• Rare drop from Skeletons in Skeleton Lords boss fight.
Hints and Tips
- Upgraded with regular Titanite to +10.
- Ignores shields completely.
- Primarily useful in PvP.
- Despite its weak damage, it can be used to break the stance of opponents with low poise (such as casters) who hide behind their shields.
- Despite being a low-end piercing sword it can be thought of as a high-end dagger as it shares the same critical multiplier as many daggers and only weighs 0.5

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.
The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].
This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.

Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit

In my most recent run, I picked this up in the early game and used it as an offhand with battle axe in main hand. I will lunge L2, then follow up with strong R2 from the axe for a head chop and man it is a strong and staggering combo. I also like having the ability to quickly thrust while closing distance with the offhand, and then have the sweep axe attacks or overhead chops with main. Great combo

Also drops from the skeletons in the cave next to the skeletons boss fight
I have a knight / quality / low cleric
and I'm going to use this weapon as a second weapon, so I want to modify it, but what update should I use? I'm trying to bleed because it's a quick weapon or lightning, but it can be anything
my statuses are 20 strength- 20 dexterity- 8 intelligence- 25 faith

It chips through shields while hitting fast as a rapier, it parries LIKE a rapier when two-handed, and it's crits are overwhelming for such an early weapon, and its lightweight to! paired up with a small leather shield, and you'll not need anything else, possibly couple from magic gear, or a bigger primary weapon! Incredible! (I am really surprised how awesome the simplest weapons can be, in a game filled with weapons made directly from the souls of legends, but then again... you are technically making your own legend, so it is fitting I guess.)

The question becomes "Which turtle soldier?" There are a decent few in both vanilla and Scholar in the forest

Defeated the Lost Sinner in vanilla DS2 with this weapon. Very underrated!
