Old Knight Hammer is a Great Hammer and one of the available Weapons in Dark Souls 2. The Old Knight Hammer is an ancient Great Hammer wielded by warriors from an era with no recorded history. Dropped by Old Knight enemies or found in a chest inside Drangleic Castle, this great hammer has extremely low durability. When two-handing, it is recommended to use the R2/RT for smaller enemies, as the first strong attack is quick and vertical. Additionally, the Old Knight Hammer inflicts more poise damage than a typical Great Hammer.

An undated great hammer.

Wielded by a warrior from a time so ancient that there exists no record of his endeavors.

Has extremely low durability

Sometimes, just as a thing falls to pieces, it unleashes its last flash of great power...

Acquired From

  • Dropped by Old Knight enemies.
  • This item is located in a chest inside Drangleic Castle. After the Double Dragonrider boss, head down the stairs just past the bonfire. You'll come to a small vertical room with what looks like a pillar rising up the centre. Climb the ladder to the right of the door. Once at the top, you'll come to a room filled with the stone knights. There is a door to the right of the room, just through here is two chests. The one on the right contains the hammer.

Hints and Tips:

  • Upgraded with regular Titanite. Cannot be infused with Bleed.
  • The hammer attacks very similar to the Large Club, or Great Club from Dark Souls 1.
  • When two-handing the hammer and fighting smaller enemies, it is recommended to use the R2/RT rather than the R1/RB as the first strong attack is quick and vertical, whereas the first normal attack is horizontal, and capable of passing over foes.
  • Does more poise damage than a normal Great Hammer.

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.
The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].
This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped.
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has.
Regular(R), Thrust(T), Slash(Sl), Strike(St)

Is the magic scaling on enchanted real? Everything I've seen, except this, says there's no scaling with infusion.

      • Anonymous

can be wielded at sl1, has no scaling regardless of infusion - meaning its base damage is higher than normal, same (or at least similar) moveset to great club. overall a great late game weapon at sl1 if you don't mind mid rolling at the end of a fast rolling run

you'll need the strength ring + the vessel shield together to two hand this bad boy tho

        • Anonymous

Not as flimsy as the Old Knight Halberd/Pike/Shield(weird), and it has lowish requirements for a great hammer for two-handing, that combined with its lack of scaling but high base damage makes it useful if you're a non-strength based build that needs a backup pancake-maker weapon

Anybody have any idea how this is with mundane? I'm about 30 in each stat and I was considering this since it doesn't have scaling

            • Anonymous

Wouldn't put raw. No scaling but high infusion damage. Great starter weapon with dark infusions. Bracing knuckle 0 - +2, stone ring (for making light attack more deadly), if needed soldiers or dragon ring for sheild builds. Very light in comparison to other great weapon. Sometimes, just as a thing falls to peices, it unleashes its last flash of great power....

The description says there is a chest that has the great hammer but I have a question I don’t have ds2 yet and I want to farm old knights as soon as I can can I get tips

                • Anonymous

"dragonslayer duo" i believe there is only one ornstein and you dont even fight him in the castle its the duo dragonriders

                  • Anonymous

It does drop in sotfs, i just got it. If you're serious about farming like i was, you can save scum farm (using ps+ cloud save feature). Make a save, run thru the area killing stuff, if you get no drops download your save n try again. Save if you get a drop, rinse n repeat. I do it like this because of the nonsense that is enemy despawns and i refuse to mess with company of champions low ass drop rate and I'm not at a point where ascetics are readily available. It may take a bit longer but you can really make rng your bitch like this.

Do the knights actually drop them in SotFS? I've been farming them for 20+ hours with appropriate gear, got plenty of cracked blue eyes, armor pieces and palestones, but not a single hammer was ever dropped.
